The best way to keep your engine bay clean is just purchase a Air Blower ( Price aroung 600 to 1000 rs) and use it one in a while to just blow of the dust inside the engine bay. This method has helped me a lot. Bty i also watch Scotty Kilmer's videos for a long time .

I own an toyota and often clean the engine bay after covering the alternator and ecu junction with a polybag. and wash the rest by spraying water and then liquid detergent then water again. after washing I let the excess water drain and run the engine for 5-8 minutes the polish the whole engine bay components. and its running fine.
It is okay to wash the engine bay occasionally if you are extremely cautious. Spray water with medium pressure in a sweeping action. It is not a issue if little water comes in contact with the ECU as it will dry off in some time.
I have seen a video in which they used some kind of waterless wash to clean the bay, I don't remember that video or channel, but I really liked that idea over spraying simple water ....

Don't compare climatic conditions of India to any others countries , as India is way more warmer and their is lots of dust in road.

Scotty is a genuine man and suggests some nice tips for maintaining your car but not cleaning the engine bay at all can be harmful in some cases and it can lead to corrosion. So always use a biodegradable product for cleaning the engine and minimize the usage of any liquid (typically we all just pressure wash our cars with car shampoo and water)

Used i20 for 7 years , 9 December 2014 to 24 December 2021, every time I washed my car with engine, but uske baad हवा ke pressure se engine k saare parts saaf krta tha, or 1 hour k baad engine star krta tha

Best idea to clean dusty engine bay . First should be use house vacume cleaner blower remove all dust first , then cover the ecm and fuse box with plastic , then rinse with water gently , then take spray bottle with shampoo spread out on surface. Then clean in detailing brush all the way , finally rinse water then use blower dry the engine bay completely . This way never side effect on your engine .

Hyundai people have washed my SX4's engine bay , I was standing right there and he told me that with a pressure washer at a higher angle with the mist tip we should wash it, no soap etc, avoid battery and ecu
NOT THIS BAD, i would clean it with garden pipe while covering the battery ,alternator and ecm. This was too dirty and i would never keep my car this dirty,it will do more harm than good.
I follow scotty but being practical lets admit that in India, dust is free like kadi patta.. and we get tons of it whereas in US u can go without it for years. air blow and wiping with wet cloth regularly will not require washing with water more than once a year.. however i get engine bay cleaned with water once a year only at service stations where they can control the pressure esp at exposed circuit lines.. been doing it on my chevvy since 15 years n just once it went down , therefore blew some air to dry it and hola it worked smooth.. of u dont do it u pose more risk of overheating and chances of oil getting contaminated with dust ( silica) which if gets in causes fine line damage to cylinder heads and pistons with the contaminated oil.. point is to do it carefully and not just wash it like a buffalo 🦬 😂
I don't agree with Scott even though I consider him a good mechanic and watch his channel. Clean engine bay with water on is a bad idea on cars of 70s not modern cars. Clean engine bay is good for many reasons.

We can wipe using thinner once in year or so, and we can dust of near ac inlet vents using brush

Thinner will wipe out all the paint, colours etc too. If some makes contact with the hood, its paint will also wash off.

Dust is more dangerous for electrical components than water its better to use air blower and degreaser solution with spray and gently wipe off
