I worked my entire career with pastors and ministry leaders, over twenty years. I have found that in my experience it’s one in ten that are not narcissists. I have found that many of them are in ministry leadership to create a fan club and their children sometimes grow up masking who they are, living life likes it’s a public performance on a stage so they can’t be overly examined by a judgmental congregation. Sometimes the pastor and their family may act like they are famous and deserve to be recognized and treated as royalty. This certainly is not what Jesus showed in His leadership. Humility is the number one character trait I look for in ministry leaders. If that’s not in them then pride will lead the way.
Its so true. I am 31 and so far I have already worked under, or been “shepherded” by 6 different narcissists. It can be very disheartening to see how many there are in the ministry.
This is so validating to me. I kept questioning myself. But no, it's them, so prideful and like some kind of superstar. And the congregation doesn't help, they all idiolise them.😮
I can definitely relate to this. In 2017, I delt with a narcissistic pastor which caused me to leave the church. And I haven’t been in church since. There were so many red flags, but I didn’t understand what was going on. I thought I was the problem. Classic, right? Lol. I’m VERY hesitant to get into another church because of this. Part of me wants to, but I have a problem trusting now. Thank you for putting this out there. I would love to hear more of what you have to say.
Same same, but I found another church that is healthy. I encourage you to, as well. You now know what to look for. God bless you. We need each other as Christians.
Same. I'm in a small town, and all the churches are the same. I've given up now. I have been truly shocked at most christians behaviour. It's a cult. Looks like a duck, walks like a duck etc etc.
Yes! My pastor is very narcissistic and also tries to attack me from the pulpit and wants me to react. He expects everyone to like his family. NOPE! I literally have a deadpan look on my face, and I like whom I like. I DO NOT NEGOTIATE WITH TERRORISTS! 😂😂😂 Seriously, no one, I don’t care what office you hold, will bully me. The Holy Spirit never bullies me, so what makes anybody else think they can?
@@squarcircle2254This was a year ago. I am no longer there! It was meant for me to stay there during that time for too many reasons to mention here, but trust me, I had no plans on permanently being there. I hopped out very shortly after I posted this and I am so much happier!

Ben, thank you so much for bringing up this topic. I ordered the book! I have definitely experienced this--and wish I had the perspective "then" that I do now. I was "the choir director's wife" for over 30 years, in multiple congregations and different states. My ever-prideful husband was constantly in show-off mode, and typically clashed with church leadership--many of whom were narcissists themselves. We definitely served in some congregations blessed with gentle, genuine ministers, but there were others who were terrible. What part of the Second Commandment is not understood by these people?! It's heart-breaking how many are turned away from church and God by these monsters. I'm single now and attend a small church in which we are all treated as family and talents are honored as ministries to share with others. Such a difference!
Thanks for your educational experience and resources and support, and prayers. Yes, I definitely agree with your content on narcissism in the Church. It's extremely prevalent, and I've experienced narcissism in all of the church's that I have attended God-bless.
I’ve noticed our pastor of 1 1/2 years to preach about himself or family in his sermons. Our previous pastor before him was a big narcissist which nearly made me want to leave the church but God moved him out of the church thank the Lord.
Jonathan Kleck fits this perfectly! Just shouting out a warning. He was great on RUclips then he got involved in my life and my families. Then he worked to destroy us through a bunch of lies. He refused to meet and review evidence proving his misunderstanding and confusion. This has gone on for months. So I’m here to shout a warning to any who might read this. Thank you Jesus for removing me and my family from this hateful man! I’ve learned wisdom and am so grateful! All Glory to the LORD God!
Wow this is incredible to hear. I followed his RUclips in 2016/7 when I first came to faith, but eventually saw the red flags that he was a cult leader. But to hear this first hand from experience is and interesting confirmation although not surprising. Pray that the Lord heals you from that mess. There is so much narcissism in Christian leadership I’ve experienced numerous subtle abuse situations

Yes , all said is true , as i observed my pastor , thats why i leave my church, i was pitty to all the members in the church , that i read my Bible about Pastor who make the church desolate, was reading Jeremia 22:22, 20:1,2,Jeremiah 12:10 and a lot more on this book
My pastor told me I had permission for something. When i tried to go ahead with plans, he denied he gave permission. I confronted him, he said - I never said that. He locked me out of the church. He saw me park next to him, he refused to make eye contact with me, and drove off, leaving me locked out, when he had a key. When I told church members, they said he didn't see you. Abandonment is a biblical reason for divorce. Also, do not automatically believe anyone who happens to say they’re Christian. As I used to teach my children in Sunday school, a person can say they’re a Christian and the profession can be false. I told them - I can call myself a car, I can live in my garage, rub motor oil all over my body, drink gasoline and only speak saying vroom vroom, honk honk! Does that make me a car? The Spirit changes us; it’s not what we ourselves do and we will know them by their fruit. Check out videos on what is a narcissist - you can find them all over RUclips. You will also find a good number of people in the pastorate who will tell you a person who is a true narcissist displays behaviors that completely are against what Christ taught us in His Word calling into question the narcissist’s profession. As Jesus tells us in His Word, why do you call yourselves my followers when you do not do what I ask? May God guide and protect you!

Authority and trust must be earned, not presumed or assumed.
Ive seen all these things in just one Christian leader.
