To all those who says he's not the best.... He is the best at what he does... Originality. He was great when I first met him in the 80's, and he still come up with innovative performances to this day! The scratches that most people do today were started by him and his friends, so of course they've been taken to a new level. Just like Hendrix, people broke it down and studied the style, but HE was one of the originators!! Right on Q!! I'll always have big respect 4 Ya!!
i have always looked up to Qbert he was the first DJ i ever saw and without this video I would not be who i am today, being a DJ was a massive part of my childhood and helped me through crap times in my life and i would like to say thank you not just to Qbert but to any other DJ who has been a competitor in DMC for shaping not just my childhood but my style and ability on the decks♥
There is nobody….nobody beating QBert in scratching. Nobody…. It’s been proven. He’s not the best juggler, but he’s the best juggler with one record…one turntable. Hes undefeated. He’s an innovator and is a pioneer of the modern beat juggling/ scratching movement.
Not only a beast on the scratching with no Serato, no computer or effects, but he's fun to watch. Like Jimi Hendrix, this guy is digging his own sounds WHILE making the sounds. One of the top 5, if you know anything about turntablism.
Man this guy is talented. When he created his own beat and improvised it thru, then did it at 45 RPM, then ate some cheese and did it at 78rpm or +50%, that was showmanship. He deserves the applause and accolades. Im not a huge fan of the hydroplane, but he does it so amazing and I would be happy to have 1/100th his skill.
There's no doubt that there will be up and comers who will or could potentially be better then Q-Bert. But what you also have to factor and I'm sure a lot of you don't know is that he is from the Old School, going back to the mid 80's. If any of you all can't respect his longevity and how he has transcended DJ'ing then some of you are just straight up fools!! IMO
No one can compare... I mean. You are listening whatever.. comes a scratch... You don't know even the title of song or what you are listening... If it's Qbert, you get it from the second one. He's style will be forever unique. My god check that drumming... Its not about Who's better or not. He's above this. He is UNIQUE, so there's no comparision possible. He plays alone in his league
He does tricks that no one else has mastered. His hands become the vinyl. He may be credited with the crab scratch and other rhythms beside, but everything about him is the result of becoming one with his instrument. It's transcendent.
One of the legends. Stood the test of time and continues to inspire to this day. People might have their favorites. But no one can say another can possibly have affected the whole culture as much as Q. The best part about Q, down to earth guy. Still the say guy who used to do all night sessions with Yoga Frog, Shortkut, Mixmaster Mike in Daly City...
About halfway into this I thought to myself, "Okay, I've probably heard enough. It's not like it's gonna get any better." Then it just kept getting better and better.
those slower heavybeats and scratches at around 2.00 and the beat at 2.44 was awesome . qbert you finally did it .untouchable .the young whipper snappers could learn off you. it auin't all about who can go the fastest. its also the sound
@@scipreme think about how many hours practise he has had doing this. And how he has built up his fine motor skills and devolped muscle memory to such a high level to scratch like he does. I am right handed, use left on the fader and been scratching for 22 years this way. I can use my left on the record too as I I have put countless hours practising it even though I don't prefer it. And if I ever had a chance to showcase it I certainly wouldn't use my weaker and less developed hand setup but it is there if need it otherwisd you are fucked if you want to put a set together. If you go back and watch old qbert videos when he was actually competing and not showcasing he had to use both as let's face it... He couldn't do a showcase set like this and win.
Big sounds ,and well furious on cuts' well crafted ,and takes cuttin to different level let that sink in' he has a unique style with a mix of old, and nu skool flavours 'with different! So stand still ,if you will because, Q-Bert has cuts to kill!!
Lets see modern button pushers display this level of musicality. This is DJ-ing, and this is real music, not just cramming as many cheesy drops into every minute by pressing buttons.
There's 2 kinds of DJs, Qbert is a "scratch DJ", beat jugglers are known as "mix DJs!" I know a great mix DJ from Trenton, NJ. His name is Louie Lopez.
I saw this cat so many times in the 90s and early 00s and he was the shit. I love how he takes a bite out of an apple at one point, he's like a juggler with better music.
What you have to understand is Q is not afraid of making a mistake. He will take that miss, and come up with something unplanned!!! He even laughs at his boo boos which always impressed me about him...... His ability to recover and take it to another level..
DJ Q-Bert makes everything look so easy, a casual watcher has no idea how much skill it takes. Q-Bert is the best scratching DJ--not to mention he invented scratches that most DJ's still can't master.
Superseal was, & is still a DJ's best friend. It was one of many DJ Tools recorded on vinyl, containing samples, used to scratch or cut in. One of my favorite vinyls for samples to this day!
Its ear-hand coordination and proprioception u learn with your eyes but once u reach a certain level u dont need eyes to scratch precicely. you will know where your hand is
Outstanding. I would have to practice for some years to get to this level. I see all the haters in the post. Q-Bert is very talented and well above standards.....Maybe the best on one of his GREAT days.
Q'bert gets the crazy props cause he was the best of the new breed(evolution) of "DJ" that took the art to "Turntablist", "Scratch Nerd" ,"Turntable science". He'll always get grandmaster props for that. But I think there are DJs now that may have surpassed him for example DJ Craze (he is Latino (gasp! like me!...lol ) who can give Q'bert a run for his money. So ;p
First song was a Jeru track second is a madlib track not sure the names. I know that jeru song was off of sun rises in the east though, still listening to the video so ill post the rest when it finishes
I agree with you that mixing is building an atmosphere. It's awesome to provide this for people, plus the adrenaline rush. I strongly disagree that cutting is about showing off. Hes trash!! He's only using one turntable!
My favorite part about Q Bert is that he still uses old school beats
Do you know this record title??
@@青空ひろ nice time 😂
And vinyl
That’s my problem with modern battle djs, they never play good music

Dj Qbert must be the most skilled and technical Dj of all time! I watched him in the 90’s and still come back to watch him from time to time!
There is nobody….nobody beating QBert in scratching. Nobody…. It’s been proven.

He is the best and we should just never forget it. Every time I see this dude it makes me happy, no matter what's going on in my life. Thanks Q!

From what I seen of Him He seems like genuinely nice guy as well as a amazing DJ
This man is a legend! An absolute magician on the wheels of steel!!!

This is the best DJ on the planet Earth or the Universe for that matter. Greatest of all time. Long live Q...
Tony Draper dont be a bell end .
Qbert gets it for dmc, but over all craze is amazing
Vekked and Brace are raw too! Super clean scratches!
You're nuts.
D styles is better i think but qbert is great
I love it how he's throwing all these goodies at the audience, along with some sick ass beats.
The look on his face at 5:23 when he knows he just killed it... priceless! :)
DJ Q-Bert. One of the best to have ever touched a turntable. Master of his craft!!
There's no doubt that there will be up and comers who will or could potentially be better then Q-Bert. i cant see anyone do the type of drumming he does at 8:00 except for q-bert

Qbert is dope no doubt and my 2nd favorite turntablist of all time but Dj Craze puts him to shame.
He does tricks that no one else has mastered. His hands become the vinyl. He may be credited with the crab scratch and other rhythms beside, but everything about him is the result of becoming one with his instrument. It's transcendent.
i freaking love qberts style.... not kidding my favorite dj so far!!!
Q Bert has so many different styles of scratching, and most of them are super difficult, that’s what makes him great.
Oh those tunes. How have I missed those tunes for so long.

Q-bert to me is the Bruce lee of DJ's he kick but's with stile.
It is fun to watch he performance.
God bless you Q-Bert
I could listen to this dude all day!
Watching greatest dj in the planet 2021 ...
He still has a swing bounce swagger that no one else seems to have in the presence of technology
What up DJ Qbert, awesome session homie, amazing skratching my friend, absolutely lovin these videos,man......🔥💯👍🙏🎶🌎
About halfway into this I thought to myself, "Okay, I've probably heard enough. It's not like it's gonna get any better." Then it just kept getting better and better.
So cool when he is "giving" his records to the audience. Q-Bert is an OG.
seems like he keeps his set low key so as not to out perform the contestants
Yea cuzz I seen him drop some fire before wit no cross fadder ...you right he just playing on this one
Lol... Humility .. Kinda like when Hendrix did any of his solos at Woodstock
What is low key about that "what?" routine? Who else has a hand that melts into and becomes one with the vinyl like that?
ISP was asked not to compete after crushing ppl.

Imagine what DJing would be for him if he had 4 arms
It's been 2 years and this comment still hurts to think about
They'd only slow him down.
He'd just scratch with the same right hand he always uses 🤷🏾♂️

Q-Bert is too lethal with the scratching, beat juggle, and cuts.
I once went to a house party where he was the DJ!
2023 still reppin
Best dj in the world
this is mad crazy bring back old school music
Q Bert the greatest Battle DJ of All Time while DJ Jazzy Jeff is the Greatest party/club DJ of all time.
Good call
MrFilthyrich76 Jazzy Did win the NMS world title
Battle dj i would say Rock Raids
dj qbert is my favorite dj. i so admire everything that he has done for the industry
Jesus Christmas, from 10.50, that was incredible.

dude when he was scratching over that dead prez beat he had pretty much the exact same rhythm as the rapper.
WLG1 ...and no one in the crowd caught that. ill.
that was sick as hell, and with that tempo... damn
This is how they used to learn, they would imitate a rappers flow with scratchs
Check dj Nelson and dj tigerstyle, they are pretty good at it too.
i caught it right when he dropped it... so fire. I'm an EDM DJ and nothing is better than where it all started.
one of the worlds greatest and most innovative dj's in the world. nice.

That's not what Qbert is like. He was actually one of the first competitive battlers to reveal techniques and samples that he is using.
here you witness a real scratch dj, not a beat juggler like most of them in this comp.
DJ Mindchime I never thought about that - but you are right.
+Mindchime Official u aint lyin brah and as he spims i feel it in my trunk POUNDING with magical spinning hands
yea not many people want to advance actual cutting
There's 2 kinds of DJs, Qbert is a "scratch DJ", beat jugglers are known as "mix DJs!" I know a great mix DJ from Trenton, NJ. His name is Louie Lopez.
As I was reading this Qbert was scratching "what??" Lol
TOTALLY AWESOME DJ QBERT REPRESENTING SFO...WHOOHOO ❤️😍🥰😘👏🏽👏🏽
Any one seen his 1991 performance it wuz crazy asf
I saw this cat so many times in the 90s and early 00s and he was the shit. I love how he takes a bite out of an apple at one point, he's like a juggler with better music.

"I gotta believe!" - Parappa the rapper
Snap! He's so primed at the end of the set that he gets ahead of the beat over dead prez...amazing skills - and mind.
@ 6:04 dude seriously starts BEAT BOXING using turn tables thats dope..
That call "drumming" :)
It's been 2 years and this still makes me think
Who are you guys seeing that makes you think Q-bert is boring? That scratch speed and precision is crazy on point. And can YOU put on a better set?
Phillip Hudshon so true! it's has to be non scratchers saying that
I first saw Q-Bert live in 1992 and he just keeps getting better.
THIS is skill !!!
Let's hear the Digital ones do this without cue Points and Controllers !
DJ Q-Bert makes everything look so easy, a casual watcher has no idea how much skill it takes. Q-Bert is the best scratching DJ--not to mention he invented scratches that most DJ's still can't master.
8:15 my fav part! He went dumb on this!🔥🔥 #genius

3:28 my jaw dropped again
I met this fella in 1998
What made people love HIP HOP! SkillZZ!
Started out in the bay, Q and Mixmaster Mike is the dynamic duo this is real turntablism.
Q-bert is one of the greats, just technique and flow, no need to do that insecure technical juggling...
待機中にレコードとかもの渡すの本当に好きやわ、
このQのSHOWCASE。
So basically, he's got great 'ear-eye-hand-coordination' :)
Its ear-hand coordination and proprioception u learn with your eyes but once u reach a certain level u dont need eyes to scratch precicely. you will know where your hand is
still one of the greatest live scratch sets ever. fucken Q-Bert.
mix master mike is still my favorite
