Bear was first doberman. His owners respectful of his breed treated him seriously. Didn't play with him much. Until somehow they discovered that in play zone doberman is just like any other dog.

I find that I speak with my older dog differently than I do with my younger one as well. It’s like I’m more lenient with the younger because he’s still learning what I expect of him.

Many years ago I used to do that trick with my two dogs. I used to say, “gentle” and my pit bull was so soft and would only take a small bite of whatever I was offering. If I felt anything he would stop mid bite all by himself lol. My doberman was almost as gentle but not quite as controlled. I was so proud of my two dogs one day when I found a four year old child in my backyard. I didn’t know my neighbours yet as I had not long moved into the street. The lady next door was old and was being visited by her daughter and the grandchildren that day. The four year old girl had gone off on her own to explore and climbed over the fence. No one knew she was missing. I had just arrived home from grocery shopping and heard a child’s voice coming from my back patio while I unpacked. I don’t have children so it took me a second to realise she was there and not next door in the neighbours yard. My dogs had never been introduced to any children in their lives and had no experience with children whatsoever. But there they all were sitting together at the top of the back steps, a little girl flanked on either side by my dogs lying like two sphinxes while she talked to them and ate the biscuit she was eating. I saw her give one of the dogs a bite before she had one herself. He was so gentle. Just like our little game. I don’t know how long she has been there while no one was home. I almost died when I saw her. This could have had a very different outcome had I only taught them normal obedience commands and not play all kinds of games with them. They really did have to be part of the family and learn all kinds of things that I made up for my own amusement. They were pretty ferocious in the yard if they were fighting over something though. They were still very much dogs and did dog things. I suppose being a kind and playful owner that mentally challenges her dogs with novelty paid off that day. I could never have trained them for that scenario. I couldn’t imagine something like that occurring. Everyone was so lucky that day. I’ve never been so grateful. What a way to meet the neighbours by knocking on the door with their granddaughter they didn’t know they were missing lol.
