Her design is horrendous lol. Soft lock auto aim for 20 meters plus a 6 second cool down escape option. Character hold your hand in the worst way possible on top of not actually helping you develop your skills in a real way.

Bro said "no other damage got buffed up" and ignores/tries to downplay how literally every single beam/non aim hero got their damage buffed by 20-30% lol. Rein, Winston, Brig, Zarya, and soon Sym. But I guess Winston going from 60 to 75 DPS isn't a big change but Moira going from 50 to 65 is lolz. The Devs literally said in the Blog Post that they would be buffing all the heroes who don't benefit from the global projectiles buffs that EVERY other hero got, and so they would be buffing their raw output to compensate. And they did for all of them, Moira included.

Imo, I think her healing passive when damaging is a bit much.
I may just be bad, but currently in season 9 with kiriko I can give her 2 headshot, miss 2 shots and give her another headshot, she would still live.

Morias damage had to go up like Winston and rein because just like them she cannot crit. So her time to kill would be higher just like Winston and rein. Low skill hero or not so if not

If you do the math, Moira now has a faster TTK than before even with the health buffs. Squishies got their health buffed by 25% or less depending on their original health pools, while Moira got a 30% increase in damage. So, unlike all other character who got their TTK nerfed (or at least kept level in the cases of Winston) she now kills things easier. And before you bring up Rein he is still easily the worst character in the game and needed the buff desperately.
Oh she got buffed because she can’t crit…. Now explain why Sym didn’t get a buff then?

I have disabilities that make this game tough me too. The hit box change has helped a lot. That being said Overwatch is one of the toughest most complex competitive shooters out there, but it is also one of the most accessible, which is an insane feat when you think about it.
So many people are able to play this game, enjoy it, and even get really good at it, and that's a beautiful thing. Balancing a game like this is insanely difficult, so I don't envy the devs there. Though I agree that Moira is very easy, I don't think that's inherently bad. But I do agree with Freedo that the value she gets for being so easy is a bit overtuned. Like Orisa was for two seasons, or Brig during Goats. I HAAAAAATTTTTEEEEEEEE Orisa Metas with a passion. When she is OP AND the healers are OP, it's like shooting at a super sponge. People hated double shield so much, but I think Metas where Orisa is strong & it's strategically the move to pocket her so she can do whatever she wants without dying as long as she cycles her super simple & easy defensive cooldowns are a million times worse than double shield. Because eventually the shields break. Or you could go around them. If Orisa's supports are up her butt while pocketing her, she can peel & protect them, knock you away, or sponge all the damage you try to throw at them.
Moira isn't as as bad as that.
As a tank Orisa has more presence, but for squishies support or dps, Moira presents a similar issues of being difficult to defend against, causes she has sustain, escape/engage options, and burst damage timing D orb, Suck, & melee properly. I've seen her use her movement to jump/dive someone, throw orb, start sucking in air and before she even hits the ground you're nearly dead, then she melees you to secure the kill. And her damage orb STILL has half its power left even after that.
She definitely needs to be looked at. Keep her accessible, but depower her so she isn't getting more value at her skill floor than a Doomfist who is earning his kills because they have accessed the upper parts of his skill ceiling.
Having heroes accessible to those with disabilities is valid and important, but they should never be a high-level, top of meta choice.
There is a fine line between accessible and excessively rewarding bad mechanics, especially when most people using the character don't have a physical disability restricting their performance.
Moira was not buffed. She's just good at surviving in this DPS-heavy patch. This phenomenon happens every time DPS is the dominant role, just like at the launch of OW2.
Freedo is asking for nerfs that will simply make her clunky/underwhelming.
People are not playing Ana because Ana feels worst to play, not because Moira feels great to play.
Giving Moira the Ana treatment is not clever from a design pov.

The TTK is now faster on a 250HP hero than it was on a 200HP hero. Not by much, but significant enough.
Coalescence now only does 5 more DPS than her normal right click...

idk, moira has no burst damage, no surprise 1-shot potential, and the damage she does deal takes a few seconds to kill you (way longer than most), and it is consistent so its ez to plan around.

It’s almost like she’s a support or something and her damage isn’t what makes her a strong.
You say the fun part is the decision making but there still is plenty of decision making to be had with Moira. There is a cost to everything. Choosing which orb at which time, choosing where to throw it to maximize its ricochet in the environment offensively and defensively, choosing if you should potentially fade to pick off a squishy or someone with low HP, choosing if you should save fade for cover from a genji dash or an ult, choosing whether to heal or do damage which takes split second decision making, managing your heal bar effectively, decision when to pop ult to either defensively stabilize your team or offensively push in (like Zen’s ult)
While I can agree that people brawl with her pretty aggressively, it’s no different than tracking her fade similar to tracking Zarya bubbles or Winston jumps in order to exploit them and secure the kill. Attacking her after she fades is the highest chance of killing her likely because she just lost her escape ability.
There’s plenty of opportunity for skill expression with this character, especially with her fade jumps and leveraging the map. Sounds like a personal problem that you can’t think outside the box.
Tell me you’re mad you can’t kill a Moira without telling me you can’t kill a Moira. Probably was playing Widow or Hanzo and kept getting dove lol.
Moira isn’t even broken right now though. She’s just one of the many top picks, she’s a A tier pick. She has no life saving utility like Bap Kiri or Brig. I’m just guessing you’re a Genji main because honestly her utility is her survivability and you’re complaining about it like it’s Ana’s nade in season 5. Track her fade and she’s easily killable.

Are we really circling back to the "this character is too EASY" debate again ? I thought we all moved past this.
It always boils down to the same thing : hero I don't like feels cheesy and should be nerfed for the "more skillful" characters to be better. Which is always tricky because "skillful" in this version of the game is even more up for debate. People will tell you that hitscan is braindead "just point and click", or projectiles are braindead because "spammy". And the end point of these debates always describes a game that is basically Valorant.
Not saying that Moira has a high skill-ceiling even, but like, Zen is way more of a problem character now from a pure design perspective. Moira is very good, but she at least has a form of commit to respect compared to Discord Orb disabling tanks.
I also don't get why her being easier to aim with is a problem on the "everyone aims way easier patch".

Absolute dumpster tier asinine mentally deficient take. Skill isn’t up for debate. “Point and click” isn’t brain dead. You have to have the mechanical SKILL required to do it which is why not just ANYONE can pick up hitscans. Anyone and I mean ANYONE can play Moira. Genji has to THINK about where he is manage cooldowns AND hit his shots, he has to THINK about where he’s going to escape. He can’t just turn to a random wall and run because going in the wrong direction or over a wall that doesn’t lead to your team will get you killed. Just admit your feelings were hurt because you play Moira and can’t handle reality.

Moira maybe strong in the rain he plays in, but at gold/plat half the time the enemy and the Moira on your team uses fade to engage and gets focused down immediately. i think in lower ranks yeah, i'm sure moira is sucky to deal with. but blaming moira instead of the actual issue is just crazy, people are playing moira just because she doesn't die. like if you want to complain about how moira doesnt have to position there's no way you're serious. if your moira blows fade super early in the fight shes going to get ran down by any team that's half decent. moira is realistically only strong right now because the other supports are easily killable and shes not, i'd be surprised if she stays in the meta because honestly if you're dying to a moira on the flank it is still a skill issue, her damage gets outhealed by pretty much every support without the dps passive on her target. shes not even that good, shes just better than shes been before really

I feel like she feels super strong in clutch situations, no matter how good you are at juking and using verticality she can consistently finish low HP enemies that have no immediate heals near by. It can be frustrating to die to for sure. Because she is mid 7/10 but in those situations where it’s high adrenaline rush fights she cleans up DPS like nothing

not to defend the specific buffs they gave Moira which do seem egregious, but I thought they buffed her damage specifically because Moira benefits the least from the hitbox changes. Everyone else can hit more consistent shots because of the hitbox change except for Moira whose whole thing is.... excelling with very little aim skill.

The point flew over your head. If you don’t think Moira is a problem when she gets a dmg buff when (almost no dps got dmg buffs) then you’re delusional. And if you are above metal ranks then you are just lying if you say you haven’t encountered a Moira main who has the worst decision making you’ve ever seen and wondered “how is she in the same rank as me”. She’s a selfish playstyle stat beast at best, and a large portion of her heals are self heals. as that is it’s really proper way to do play Moira, selfishly almost like a dps. Otherwise at high lvl play if you have a Moira that isn’t selfishly fragging out she’s getting out valued by supports that have actual utility aka most of the support roster

Moira isn’t even the most pick healer in my comp matches it’s kiriko zen and mercy and I range from silver to platinum
That's objectively not true. Pickrates are publicly avaiable on Overbuff and Moira is one of the top3 performing supports in every rank pretty much. The Devs also confirmed this on livestream. Mercy has a 4% pickrate in Silver, Kiriko 5%, Moira has a 6%. Her winrate is 3% higher than them. It's the same in gold and plat pretty much. She's being played a ton in every rank and winning a ton, objectively. I don't think she's OP but she's definitely stronger than Mercy/Kiriko/Ana/Bap/Brig/Illari/Liveweaver.
There is literally no way you play silver to platinum and you don't get Mercy Moira in 70%+ of your games.

Moira is actually worse in lower ranks this season and better at higher ranks, since the only reason low ranked players picked moira was because she had a massive gap in aiming, most players in those ranks before season 9 couldnt hit half their bullets onna tank and this season silver widows sometimes look like diamond widows, so moira biggest cheese component was drastically nerfed while the meta also shifted inna way that now rewards supports with high burst healing survivability and fast pace gameplay or if they're zen because hes just broken rn, so moira simply is meta due to the flow of the game while also being less toxic and abusable in lower ranks now.
Ofc moira is still being played alot in lower ranks but it's more so because shes genuinely meta, not because her numbers are op like you would need to do before season 9 to make her meta which means shes actually meta inna healthy way, so while she could maybe use a small dmg nerf, I dont think moira needs massive nerfs.
I don’t think they’d rework her. They’ll nerf her damage and increase the value of coalescence. Or change her healing to single target of any rework. That would be fun
When did Overwatch become this super strict, super serious game?? Just play it and have fun, don't worry about all these nonsense technicalities. Moira can be annoying at times sure, but she isn't nearly as bad as he's claiming.
Overwatch became a "super serious game" when they made it an e-sport. the plethora of balance changes and reworks, the culling of 2cp, hell, even the competitive rework all imply that the developers actively care about the game's competitive integrity. and regardless of whether it really is a e-sport, in reality, its part of the incredibly convoluted politics surrounding this game's community.
some people feel that the time they've spent practicing and learning about how to play this game are invalidated by inexperienced players benefitting directly from playing an easy hero, primarily Moira and Mercy, but also Orisa, Bastion, Reaper, etc.. telling people that care to stop caring is, generally, not a good way to make them stop caring. neither is it a way to solve problems. i'd also say that being intentionally ignorant of other peoples problems is a net negative on society, but that's more arguable.
now about the Moira problem specifically, i want to revisit some related history. back when Mercy got her first rework, when they removed mass rez as an ultimate, they acknowledged both that it greatly challenged Overwatch's competitive integrity, but there were a lot of Mercy players, and they were incredibly vocal.
so they gave her an incredibly powerful ult to replace it, and put rez as an ability.
this initial version was incredibly overtuned, likely on purpose; it is generally believed that they needed to appease the horde of Mercy players to weather this potential PR catastrophe. there were so many of them because of how easy she was for new players to pick up; if she were to become harder to play as a result, this rework could get in the way of profits, and the last thing you want to do is mess with the money.
i believe something similar is happening with Moira now. they released an easy hero to play, and a ton of generally unskilled players gathered around her. and once again, she's challenging the game's competitive integrity. if history would repeat itself, Moira would be reworked to become more powerful than any previous iteration, and define a meta. the differences between these two situations probably mean this won't happen, but we'll just have to wait and see.

While I do agree Moira stats are a little bit overturned right now, I think every game needs a hero like her, just maybe less impactful in the higher tiers of plays( Moira for Overwatch, Master Yi for LOL, etc) that character that when a friend starts playing you tell them to play that, but once they achieve a certain amount of knowledge/skill it stops being effective, and they have to actually get good to keep climbing
Fair, all games need easy access character when players start their journey with a game. However, the biggest problem with Moira is that they don’t actually teach players how to play Overwatch, they teach how to play Moira. Like Frito said Moira teaches habits that do not apply to other characters, and if anything will only detriment the player. She’s less of a tutorial character and more of a trap for newbies, and that’s a problem. How strong she should be is a matter of opinion, but I feel the existence of a noob trap character is a genuine problem for any game.

I come back to check Overwatch’s state once in a while after quitting playing, 3 years later, Moira still in this game with damage orb, auto lock and fade, looks like I didn’t miss a lot, it’s still the same old trash with a fundamentally flawed and conflicted design philosophy

I will start off with the suggestion that Moira's ability to self-heal should be tuned back to reduce her sustain in 1v1s.
That being said, I think there is a place for characters which allow people who dont have the time to build mechanical aiming skill to succeed if they can learn how to position and time cooldowns. Yeah, as someone who has mained her since she came out, she does too much damage rn, but I dont think "you should only be able to climb if you can aim with heroes like Ana and Kiri" is a good way to look at things.
I think a lot of people at higher skill tiers take mechanical skill for granted, and automatically assume that a character which takes aiming skill should always be better than one that doesnt, and that just doesnt represent the wider playerbase.
I am self-admitterly not good at aiming. I realize that I will likely never be GM, and have come to accept that, but if I can position better than every gold and plat I play against, then I believe I deserve to be ranked higher than them, but crucially, if it comes down to me having to grind aim lab to have any fun in the game, I will simply stop playing the game.
Its why I dont play Apex. Its why I dont play Siege. Its why I dont play COD. OW is about more than just shooting things
It's a FPS, people who aim better should be higher ranked.

@@SlevinKevinwhat I am going for is that yes, aim should likely be the most important weight in rank, but not singularly important. Superiority in all the tactical aspects of a character should be able to make up for it. If you are a tank player that cant exactly aim very well, but you play Rein and keep your team alive, get clutch pins and shatters in, and take space, then you deserve to be ranked as high as a Queen that is nailing headshots or a Roadhog that is nailing hooks. That is because the VALUE of Rein is in positioning and cooldown usage, which is where I believe the value of Moira lies as well, when tuned correctly (which she is not now)

Bro every other healer has its own play style with their own OP things, that are in constant flux. I LOVE the Moira play style of sliding in and out of the backline, rushing from taking a duel to running back to your front line to heal, timing a purple orb that will have the best possible path, jamming ult and pushing forward. Most of her skill ceiling is positioning and game sense based, cool down juggling. She’s just fun bro. Is 65 a second over tuned? Maybe. Has Moira always been a literal joke because no one understood her true value didn’t require an anti nade or momentary invincibility? Yes. Now she’s tuned up enough to do well and you’re freakin out. It's so strange to hear language like "why are we rewarding people exploiting this pick" and "Moira's not real Overwatch" and "Moira should be played like a moron" (all comments that happened within about one minute of the video starting at around 7:00) when there are so many other factors at play here.
Moira's viability increases as other heroes' viability (such as Ana or Mercy pocketing a DPS for one-shot burst damage) decreases. Moira is rendered largely ineffective by a well-thrown anti nade, and, while she outputs a lot of AOE healing, she can't heal through Sojourn rail gun or Hanzo OHKOs while Baptiste, Kiriko, and even Lifeweaver have the ability to prevent teammates' deaths. Now that one-shots have been nerfed by the health buffs, large healing output is more effective, even though it's nerfed by the DPS passive. Moira's increase in effectiveness is a direct response to these things.
As far as her survivability goes, Zen was just nerfed because he was being played almost like a frontline brawler with his overall survivability. Zen's typically a hero that gets his value from longer range, not needing to be playing up with the tank to use Discord and Harmony orbs as well as left or right clicks, and the same goes for heroes like Ana and Baptiste. Aside from her orbs, Moira needs to be closer to the action to get value. And because that's her intended playstyle, the devs gave her tools to survive when closer to the action. In a similar way, Brigitte got a personal shield and Shield Bash, Inspire, and Whip Shot to move around, help her and teammates survive, and keep close up opponents off of her. Now, Brigitte can't move in and out of the battle in the way that Moira can, and if you wanted a cooldown nerf to her Fade, I would support that as well.
But saying that heroes like Moira have no skill expression is just incorrect, and saying that they "remove the skill expression from other characters" is only whiny, especially when heroes like Tracer are as good as they are right now. If you're a mediocre Moira, a good Tracer will force out your cooldowns, keep you away from your tank and other teammates that need to be healed, and either kill you or zip back to kill a DPS or other support that you can't get close to now that you've used your fade and heal orb to keep yourself alive. You're absolutely right that Fade as it currently is is extremely strong and it can enable players to have bad positioning and avoid getting punished for it in a number of instances, but this video just rings of everyone who complained about TikTok Moiras but had no idea what it takes to be actually good at the "TikTok" playstyle, which is actually just good Moira play and isn't JUST damaging the enemy team in the back line or at an off angle but is about absolutely understanding the flow of a fight and the positioning of all opponents as well as the vulnerability of your allied support. Moira SHOULD be finding times to go on the aggressive.
In addition to the above examples of skill expression, the decision of when and where to throw an orb and when to save your orb for a moment because you think you might need the extra healing shortly is something that a TON of players don't put a lot of stock into. You're tracking EVERYONE's move cooldowns at once to optimize this. Anyone could say "just throw it where it bounces back to you," and that's great and all and mostly correct. But if you want maximum value out of it, you have to know where the important targets for your heal or damage orb are and where they will be two seconds after you throw it, because if you don't consider that, you're wasting a valuable cooldown. Sometimes a well-placed orb is a little like that gif of Zach Galifianakis calculating all that math in his head.
Additionally, a 0.1 meter larger radius on her left click is nothing; it was already really easy to aim that, and this change just made it the slightest bit easier, but it's not changing her damage output by any sort of significant amount. If you're frustrated because you can't kill her every time you want to jump on her, that's just how the hero works; it's similar to playing against a Tracer, except a Tracer can kill a target much more quickly than Moira.
I completely understand your feeling that it sucks to have an enemy support hero be so good at bulk healing and also at escaping when you try to kill her. It also sucks to have characters like Hog and Mauga be largely countered by Ana nade and essentially require a Kiriko on their team to be able to function when the opponents have an Ana. Moira's kit DOES allow her to make more mistakes than other heroes and still manage to survive and get some form of value, and I agree that, at the very least, Fade should get a cooldown nerf. But I really can't disagree more with your skill expression point, your reasoning for it, and the general babyish rage you displayed in these clips. If Moira's good, people are going to play her. You could say that about literally every hero.
I know this may seem like a complex counter to Moira but in essence you move the opposite direction of the purple orb.
I know this seems like S tier tech that requires godlike reflexes but it works with practice.

I’ve been playing Moira almost exclusively for the past couple of years, she is an absolute terror this patch. I’m loving it.
My problem with Moira is just that it feels really shitty to try super hard to hit shots with other heroes and lose a duel against a Moira because she doesn't have to aim or because a random orb flew by. Same reason I hate Junkrat and his traps.

It definitely take thought to play Moira. The meta for the last 2 seasons has been team focus fire and insta kill combos/ anti heals….. Moira feels perfect to play as a disrupter to this meta as she can actually react and escape and sustain herself and to keep helping her team where as Ana is a sitting duck who has to keep wasting time respawning and taking a long slow walk back to the obj or team. If Moira is bad what about good lucios ? His time to kill squishies is much faster than moiras especially if landing crits with the increased projectile size. I feel it’s easy to complain about Moira cuz at a surface level
It seems so brain dead but I feel like in reality it’s actually much easier to suck as Moira than it is to be good with her and situational awareness is so key. I would argue her heals kick in very slow despite providing a lot more of its value over time in a meta where dps has heal suppression I think it’s safe to say Moira is pretty balanced and if she were to fall short of her current max range of dps effectiveness she is literally mince meat to most who get closer than 20m to her . Junk rat , pharah , bastion, soldier , sombra, all the tanks, even torb jorm has such a quick TTK that he could put health her and out dps her , symmetra is a monster at close range who can e honestly if you are getting solo’s by Moira or are dying a lot to her then I hats when communication and countering from the team should obviously take effect lol. Moira is so easy to kill by killing her from out of her cone of sight. One shot from off. Screen from most characters spell death. And even tho she can teleport most moves for some reason have anti movement properties that temporarily disable her teleport which makes no sense . So actually i would argue she should be stronger by way of her teleport actually being useful in the inherent ways you would think a teleport would be such as ……. Escaping out of a hog hooking. Crazy af to me that I can’t escape that’s. Or escape out of ultimates …. But all these characters have instant kill combos, or can interrupt ults or straight up render them useless.
A good moira actually has to be on the attack as much as defense as she won’t be able to put up 15,000 heals If she doesn’t have somewhat comparable or eclipsing damage in terms of numbers .
She is really strong right now, she deals so much damage, can most of the time win her 1v1s if u use her cooldowns properly and has good healing. I consistently have been climbing with her, being previously an Ana main, I just feel like Ana can't keep up with the likes of moira now.

Moira's stats are not a good sign of her effectiveness. She in particular gets massively inflated stats compared to the value the character actually creates. She's not nearly as OP as she often seems.
Mate that's the whole point of Moira. You're not supposed to be a heal bot. You use your left click and charge it up again by dealing dmg. When your team dives in you go with them and place a beautiful dmg orb.
A mentally challenged monkey could play Moira and get a ton of value. This has always been my issue with her. Then I see Moira players get all hyped by their stats and performance with her. Lol, I get the hustle. Do what's effective, but, no, you're not that good at the game.

Old OW player that used to main Moira when she first dropped here, just get good at your role. Shes not that op back then and even with this buff shes still easy to mow down with focus fire. Healers in this game either get focus fired into the shadow realm or steamroll the op team with synergy. Quit complaining about every little buff/nerf and just get good. Im trash as moira but i still have fun win/lose/draw with her.
She was hardly buffed honestly. The damage buff was to counter the health increase a bit. So the only “buff” was the target acquisition and that only went up by .1 meters. A 1/6th increase? It’s definitely an improvement to her, but it honestly is not that much different from where she was

I love using Moira. She’s just incredibly fun to play. She’s all I use and I’m good af with her. And I don’t even care being considered a one trick because I’m having fun with her and I enjoy keeping teammates alive while doing damage too. She’s very well rounded and gives players the opportunity to get the best of everything the game has to offer. Ironically, I kept getting smoked by Genji when I first started playing the game years ago - which ultimately led me to Moira.

I disagree she lacks skill, in fact aim buff is a nerf for she and a major problem… if teams group up it means locking on to the correct enemy to kill is super hard, the game grabs the tank rather than the tracer/gengu that hides in the group.
As soon as teams spread then yes, she becomes easy mode and can’t miss. But this is counterwatch for a reason.
Easy/low skill for me is all the projectile heros mean anyone can he with the log firing skill just needs to aim at the body or nearest wall to headshot. Since they all hide at the back of the levels shooting long distance (because everything except widow is multi shot kills the distance drop off doesn’t matter but it’s aids survival) the only counter is to dive/flank. Plus hope the group splits up so you can like off the weak!
Loving Reaper for ganks for the same reasons love Moira. The skill is the ganking attacks. It’s no worse than tracer/doom/ball which don’t have fade but have constant high speed instead plus even higher dps!
The only reason people are defending moira is because she carried them to their first gold rank. She is the meta, and the meta is stale.
Easy fixes (probably not good). Overheat or shortened range on damage fire. Increased resource drain on healing. Damage orb does less total damage but refills heal resources more. Heal orb reduces overheat on primary if overheat is used instead of reduced range. Fade restores resource and overheat, is on 10 cooldown.
Moira bad at high rank and problematic at lower ranks? Higher ranks tell you to git gud.
Moira good at high rank? Now she needs a nerf and is lame.

Training wheels heroes shouldn't be viable in higher ranks.
