@@pablojams5152 Thanks for making my point for me. Hotels take no responsibility for what goes into your safe, therefore they have no reason to make any lock box more secure than ones can be bypassed with a red bull can. One of my parents dropped their android phone by a school on a Friday and i tracked it through the find my phone system to an address. We saw movement on the phone and were able to guess that most likely it was picked up and left in a car so we waited at the original address until it came back and asked the person about it. They gave it back with no issue because their kid had found the phone and left it in their car for the weekend so they could turn it in on Monday.
I hate those scenarios where a simple action, like pinging an airtag, leads to a rabbit-hole of actions you need to complete before doing your simple action.
Honestly. I love the fact that Google is rolling out the Find My competitor. I had so much time tracking my dog on his "midnight walks" in the neighbourhood. I realised that only 3 neighbours had any apple devices...

I lost my wallet at the hospital (from an anxiety attack of all things) and couldn’t get it back, I was pretty upset, losing my credit cards and ID birch costed me enough to replace that it frustrate me along with losing the wallet itself, which wasn’t cheap. Of course, after the anxiety attack, my paranoia kicked in and I now have a wallet with an AirTag and have gone to Apple (iPhone 12mini and Watch) despite picking on apple owners that I knew and now that I have one, I’m eating my words lol I really wish androids find my device had been working or had any at all and hope that their version of it will be just as good!
It should work in the same exact way! I really don't know why Google hasn't done it way sooner, it's such a requested feature! I went with Samsung smarttags, and got a cheap old used galaxy phone that I keep in my drawer, I had to use it once and it's a huge help!
Android has had a device finding option for a VERY long time(significantly longer than Apple). It just wasn't through an app it was through the Google website. You logged in, went to your google account, then click on my devices.
Also from what I've heard, Google's tracker network didn't already exist because of Apple dragging their feet on implementing the anti-stalking features for it (so that people could not use google's tracker to stalk Apple users, in the same way people were using airtags to stalk people when they first came out). Based on various leaks and FCC filings, it looks like trackers and this network have basically been waiting to release for over a year.
Fun fact: When your 2-factor comes up after you login, you can scroll down and select "Find My Device" option. Not sure if it will let you ping anything, but if you just need to check the last known location it is helpful when you dont have any other device.
Man that would of been an ordeal i wouldn't ever want to do. Glad you got it back wow that could of been a disaster. It was already but you know the credit cards so forth. Galaxy SmartTag has been a thing for a long time now. They are apparently equal in tests to airtags. Same concept but only pings off Samsung Galaxy phones with smartthings enabled. Also TILE is another brand thats been doing this for years but they don't ping off people's phones and suck.
Tile does ping off people's phones. The problem is the phone needs the Tile app installed to be part of the network, so it's only useful if there are other Tile users near your tag. Which of course there usually isn't since the vast majority of people don't use Tile. However Tile is going to start using Google's network in new trackers.

A common thing is to take unidentifiable valuables (so basically just cash) first and then just leave it there while it cools down. They do this for the exact situation you ran into where if they get caught they can hand it back and even if you went to the authorities there would be nothing the cops can do. However if they took the cards or tech, jewelry etc, the cops would be able to identify the stolen good and they get in trouble. They knew that everything was in it because they didn't take anything out of it, yet. Its the same shit as thefts hiding stolen goods in abandoned lots for a few days to weeks.
Not really. For one there is enough doubt that they really were the ones who took the cash. Secondly by giving them a reward for returning the bag it encourages them to return other people's things in the future with the allure of another reward. A legitamite no strings attached reward may be more attractive than having to pawn some random shit illegally.

It was a guy and his nephew there. I mentioned the ice rink being where my phone was stolen. They went to ask someone else in the house, came back and said no phone. Somehow I convinced the to let me in to ping it with my watch. I get up the stairs and a guy comes out of a room carrying a phone. I ping, it rings, he looks at me and runs out of the house. I lost him through some bushes near by. I got the police to go there the next day. The guy who had my phone was the homeowners bother in law and apparently told his wife a completely different story of how he got the phone. She was visibly getting upset. Obvious lie, of course. I left with my instrument, flabbergasted that somebody would act like that. Kids didn't have cellphones my age, so I couldn't even call the police if I wanted. He looked like an average guy, with decant clothes. I couldn't figure out why somebody like that would steal. He was more than big enough to brush me aside, but didn't. In the end, I was just glad I didn't lose my horn. I would've been embarrassed to tell my parents I lost it. Those things can be stupid expensive.

They also have logs of whoever cleaned your room so unless you’re giving your hotel key out to everyone it would be pretty easy to tell who has been in there.
@@pablojams5152 Thanks for making my point for me. Hotels take no responsibility for what goes into your safe, therefore they have no reason to make any lock box more secure than ones can be bypassed with a red bull can. Not every hotel keeps logs of everything, and if they do and the person is stealing, then why would the logs be accurate? Who is to say that the person who cleaned the room isn't "losing" their key card too? Wouldn't trust their safe with a nickel.
I know this will never happen, but it would be nice if they could combine the two. One single network using all android and apple phones to locate missing devices.
@@fsociety6983 Two corpos working together for the greater good? Yeah, right...
but doesn't the apple airtag make a constant noise after 3 days from being separated from the owner? meaning if he's lost, that thing will sound constantly if he moves
@@fsociety6983 isn't that exaclty what's happening?
@@shaggytoph No, they aren't merging. No, it doesn't constantly make a sound. It makes some noise at the start, then waits until it stops moving. It then resets and starts making sound when you move again.
Sounds like a mess to use air tags if you don't have an iPhone
Tile works natively, no Apple walled garden.
Nobody uses tile and apple has a massive network
@@RJ_Cormac And how big is the Tile network compared to Apple's Find My network eh?? How many people in the world use Tile? WAY less than people that have iPhone's. Tile is shit. Apple's network is way bigger. Get a brain
@@PlatinumEagleStudios the network is big enough that you don't need to find a different phone if you have your android, would have chipped instantly, my wife has never had a problem.🤦🏻♂️
@@RJ_Cormac "Big enough" is not enough. I want to be able to find my stuff anywhere and not just in like 20% of the world. That's why Apple is better because it doesn't rely on JUST iPhone's it relies on Macbooks and iMacs too
Lol paying the thief for his trouble. Well done, Linus.
It's so funny to see a Canadian speaking like that. Like, here in Brazil, you expect this to be the most common behavior.
Linus is so naive lol
no, you are. but youll never see why, boy.
You can track through the browser as long as you use your login
I feel stressed just listening to this story. Glad you got it back!
That's not a robbery, that's theft. Robbery involves force, or threat of force.
Apparently nobody has access to a dictionary any more. 🤦♂️
ok
I would have called the cops.
Glad her purse was found!
I lost my wallet at the hospital (from an anxiety attack of all things) and couldn’t get it back, I was pretty upset, losing my credit cards and ID birch costed me enough to replace that it frustrate me along with losing the wallet itself, which wasn’t cheap.
Of course, after the anxiety attack, my paranoia kicked in and I now have a wallet with an AirTag and have gone to Apple (iPhone 12mini and Watch) despite picking on apple owners that I knew and now that I have one, I’m eating my words lol
I really wish androids find my device had been working or had any at all and hope that their version of it will be just as good!
"Thank you Apple" Except for all the hoop he had to jump through (finding an iPhone, finding a Macbook, remembering apple id...)
Damn, way too nice for giving them 60$
Can't wait to get an android findmy tracker for my camera bag.
Same! First thing I thought about!
Fun fact: When your 2-factor comes up after you login, you can scroll down and select "Find My Device" option. Not sure if it will let you ping anything, but if you just need to check the last known location it is helpful when you dont have any other device.
You are much more generous then me. Giving them cash after they done yours and the clear lack of intent of returning it.
Man that would of been an ordeal i wouldn't ever want to do. Glad you got it back wow that could of been a disaster. It was already but you know the credit cards so forth. So googles got there own coming out soon im sure you guys will test the crap out of that when it drops. 100% great job Linus well done. My misses forgot hers a year or 2 ago, got it back & thankfully the guy that picked it up drove all the way to us & gave it back to her. She was so grateful, makes your heart drop i tell ya that now.
I once found a purse in a bush and all the cash and valuables where already taken. I contacted the person via letter because there was no phone number and because her house was too far away. She didn't even give me any finders reward because she thought that I took the cash. :(
Who on gods earth would go through the trouble of writing a letter in this day and age to get a bit of cash? especially if they are supposedly the culprit? No good deed goes unpunished.
I appreciate your honesty and integrity and your story has absolutely nothing to do with me.
Don't let the World change you, be the change you want to see in the World.
some people would, in hope of additional prize. Just like in this case we dont know if the woman took the money, I once found a purse and had to go to police with that because person didnt respond but if they would say I took the money I would have no way to prove I didnt, which was a troubling thought
Well yeah, not very smart of them, but you weren't actually punished for anything there. You aren't *entitled* to a finders fee, it's just something that's nice if people do.
@@fsociety6983 well sure but It was mostly about being suspected. I also had to buy stamps. :,D
Might honestly just have been an excuse not to pay me. Would have preferred if she just told me if that where the case.
Back in 2021 there was a video about video games and player behavior i was watching and i will never forget the guys says: most of the time it's better to reward the positive behavior that you wanna see rather punish the one that you don't.
Ofc they would say everything was in it, even if they took the cash
We’ve had find my phone in google though!?
Imagine you're just at the park and you see Linus digging through a bin
"Yeah, seems about right"
Brother, she was trying to save face. There is no sleeping child, they were trying to keep the purse.
If I was apple, I would run this as an add for the next 20 years.
Look at that ad banner…
Giving thieves $60 after they've taken your cash and lied to you is idiotic
Not really. For one there is enough doubt that they really were the ones who took the cash. Secondly by giving them a reward for returning the bag it encourages them to return other people's things in the future with the allure of another reward. A legitamite no strings attached reward may be more attractive than having to pawn some random shit illegally.
@@baboonaiihunfortunately people now a days can't often think about the positives of a situation anymore but it was really cool seeing the time you took to explain it.
This story sounds like an episode of The Curse
Air tags are definitely a good idea for tracking things like purses and wallets.
Well... at least you got it back🤣. I lost my Iphone 12 pro that I had been using all day and when I checked find my Iphone after just 10 minutes of losing it, my apple watch told me that my phone last location was at home the day before.
My brother and girlfriend had my real time location and it also said the same. I then checked my little sister's Ipad and sure enough, it said it was at home and 2 years later still does xD.
I switch to android and never went back, it's pretty good, equally expensive but new things to learn and do.
Can’t believe y’all were gonna give them cash for the purse they stole
find my phone has always been there, used it to find my phone when i dropped it in the snow outside
The thing is that this will cost on other peoples data bundle. Although I wouldn't mind, I know younger people (like younger me) that don't have a very big data bundle.
Some people recicle garbage for money, at least where I live is really common
I knew this would be clickbait, but I thought maybe Google charged her extra money or something 😂
How much cash was in the purse? Just to work out a reward ratio. I recently lost my wallet and it was returned by the founder with all the money in it. I did not end up rewarding the guy because he basically berated me and was on a power trip for finding my wallet.
Haven't you all watched Eurotrip? Ya got to strap that passport to your body under your clothes!
Using An AirTag on bags and not carrying an IPhone is Crazy
10:33 Why would you say "everythings in it" in the first place? If I find a random purse at a random location:
1) I dont know what was in the purse originally. So I couldn't claim everything is/is not there
2) If I didnt see you lose it, I don't know how long its been unattended. If I don't know how long its been unattended, I don't know the likelihood stuff has been taken out
3) "Everythings in it" Is a promise. I don't make promises to strangers... especially when Im doing them favors, like returning their stuff
So yah, "Everythings in it" is a suspicious statement because I know, you lack the knoweldge to make that statement... so im wondering why you made the statement
God forbid Apple and Google open sourced the trackers and made them cross-compatible.
You paid them even though you were confident they were not inteneding to give it back and no police were notified of this interaction??? Wtf?
I left an empty wallet to hotel room in Venice, and it was gone when we got back to the hotel. Some people just take without actually checking...
imagine stealing from Linus or his wife ... imagine being that famous for stealing from this guy, because he 100% has the ability to do it.
Mother Theresa over here talking about giving then the bare minimum reward of 60 bucks for stealing her shit lol. I bet if she had asked really plaintively, he would have gone to an ATM and withdrawn cash to give her some.
ALWAYS hide your tracker if possible.
It's a darn shame that a few bad apples ruin it for the majority.
I remember once a lady sitting next to me on a bench got picked up by a taxi, and as I was bopping along to a song off my phone I noticed the handbag was still there.
Being the nice guy I dropped it into a nearby DVD shop (yes, a DVD shop) of which I knew the boss there.
Sure enough the taxi driver came back in 20 min and asked was there a handbag left on the bench.
I said yeah, I've dropped it into the shop for safekeeping. He thanked me.
I wasn't expecting any sort of reward at all. The best reward was knowing I did something good.
Plot twist: The theif is an undercover apple agent
A few years ago, my galaxy s7 was stolen from my bag while I was ice skating.
I went use my computer and tracked it to a house across town. I didnt know how accurate it was so I check the surrounding houses, but my gear fit 2 connect to my phone in the house's driveway.
The family didn't speak English well.
He wasn't there so the family contacted him and the police met him to retrieve my phone. Nothing happened to him.
The ice rink manager ended up finding video of the guy stealing the phone from my bag.
I was in Vancouver, returning from band practice, and had my french horn with me (in a big case). I stopped at the side of a sidewalk to tie my shoelaces, and somebody just grabbed the case without even breaking their stride. I couldn't believe the boldness. In broad daylight, with me within an inch of it. Of course I notice! I was small for a 14 year old, so it was like somebody had stolen an entire building from next to me.
I ran after him (like three good steps) and shouted "hey, that's mine!" And grabbed the handle. He immediately let go saying, "Sorry, I thought it was 'lost' and was gonna return it".
Those things can be stupid expensive.
theres places out there that actually has people collecting certain garbage out of dumpsters of appartment buildings, and one comes takes all the paper other comes takes all the aluminum, other all plastic bottles and bags.. precisely segregated so that everyone eats. I was shocked first time i saw that. Soon in a hood near you.
That was some story!
All phones dying
Airtag but no iphone
airpods not stolen
BTW if there is an airtag with you (not yours) and you have an iphone, you will eventually get an alert that someone is tracking you.
The only reason I'd want to use it to find my device but not help out is because my phone is getting on, it doesn't last a day so I absolutely have to carry a power bank and plug to charge it and I don't really want my Bluetooth going off all the time draining my battery even more
Why in the world did Ivan give a reward when they blatantly stole it???
Linus, with all the tech you carry, why don't you carry a little powerbank? Life's too short to run out of juice.
Some times the air tags are a pain. I had a random lady show up to my house saying her sons keys were pinging to my house. I did not have the keys and she started gets hostal with me. It was kind of sketchy.
4:34 - Guy develops merch with stealth pockets, but doesn’t see the value in a hidden pocket to hide a tracker ? 6:50 Tech guys phone battery DIES!?!? With critical 2FA stuff on it AND tech guys wife’s phone is about to die!?!? The price you pay to not deal with Anker
I don't know how good they are, if you have a Samsung phone Samsung has their own version of tags like the ones you're talking about.
You should use the finding technology matching your phon3.
this is the most terrifying thing.
To anybody wondering. You can access find my iPhone from any browser irregardless of OS.
lemme find out Linus upping the pole

samsung galaxy smarttag 2 works right now but only with samsung devices.
The trash was empty most likely because they are the ones who took what's inside, unfortunately that's how some people act in order to survive...

Did you know that you tube is blocking (slowing down) adblock extension again?
This is a dumb question but why would you put an airtag on the OUTSIDE of your purse?
Linus’ son is the man in the chair
You should get a tile, apple notifies thieves if they have one near them.
Its theft, not robbery.
