    I love that you talked about the compliment thing! Watching RUclipsrs go on and on about how this or that gets them showered with compliments makes me feel like I must be doing something wrong. I don't think I've ever gotten a compliment on the perfume I'm wearing unless I've stuck my wrist in someone's nose asking what they think lol

    • @dr.claire.perfume
      @dr.claire.perfume  2 года назад +5

      I think the only times I have is when I am at work and in a small room with someone or I've just refreshed my fragrance and someone walks past. Compliments are rare from complete strangers. I did have someone I didn't know walk past my desk last week (open office) and ask me if it was me that smell so good, but that never happened before, probably because I share an office with a lady who wears a tobacco and amber fragrance and so many people complained about how strong it is 🤷‍♀️ the reason I doubt compliments videos is because of the frequency people claim they get compliments, but it may be different socially in different countries, in the UK it is unusual. I also doubt because I remember one video during lockdown with a lady who I knew was working from home and she was saying about all the compliments she'd got on her new fragrances... Just who from? Maybe they are counting their family? Most complimented videos get crazy amounts of views though so I see why people would lie unfortunately. Also the most interesting and complex fragrances are not necessarily the ones people can smell on you or the ones that people enjoy smelling as much as the less challenging more mainstream ones, compliments do not necessarily reflect the ones that you love or rate most in your collection. Thanks for watching ❤️

    Loved hearing your answers to this tag! And I laughed out loud at "they can't be British!" So, so true. Only person who ever really, compliments me is Adam. Occasionally my Mum and maybe my boss if I am wearing something that smells popular. Never get compliments off strangers though

    • @dr.claire.perfume
      @dr.claire.perfume  2 года назад +2

      I did get 3 compliments at work last week, and even 2 in one day, but everyone there is from mainland Europe, so that probably explains that. I agree, compliments from complete strangers are very very rare. I think it's deemed too personal to comment on how someone smells in the UK.

    Perfume tag season is right! 😂 Agreed, Youth Dew is a frag snob classic and I just can’t get on-board with it either. And, I really like intensely spiced resinous ones. Such a skeptic! 🤣Yes…if you are in a room with a bunch of close friends or coworkers …you can rack up compliments (esp women…..American women ). 🤣🤣 I have a problem with compliments in general also…..we don’t do enough of it. It should be so much easier but today ….unfortunately…sometimes the opposite is true. 🧐

    • @dr.claire.perfume
      @dr.claire.perfume  2 года назад

      Yes the compliments I've had have been in a side room lab mostly with just a few people in. Our floor is pretty empty at the moment, I'd I mix with three people a day I'm happy because it's quiet right now... But ironically the week after filming this, I got 3 compliments in one week, I never get more than 1 in a week normally 🤷‍♀️ it's quite unheard of. I guess it reflects how many people you mix with.

      I think the bath oil was what youth dew was originally... Then that got popular so they made the fragrance. I think I prefer Opium of the two. My friend sprayed it in a shop a few months back and the sillage was actually lovely and I was shocked to like it quite so much 😂 I didn't encounter anyone wearing opium for a long time before that but maybe my tastes matured? My stepmother no longer wears youth dew or fragrance generally as she has problem skin nowadays, so I didn't smell that for a few years either. 🥰

      Haha no, we just didn't have a best man or bridesmaids, we wrote our own menu and used our recipes, I made the cake and we had games and stuff to do because we didn't want people to be bored. Nothing too controversial but we just tried not to make it too fussy or formal. Weddings are personal choice though aren't they? The only person who seemed a bit upset by it was my mum but she's hard to please 🤣
      Black opium is the fragrance that I wore for 3 years straight, so I guess that qualifies it as my longest signature fragrance but I rarely wear it these days. I might give it some wears this winter though! Thanks for watching ❤️

    Greeks definitely compliment a fragrance but of course they don't hesitate to tell you in your face that they don't like your fragrance. Sometimes I wish I was British. I have to say that I am the kind of person whose fragrance fills a room or a car. I used to wear original opium and I rocked it.

    • @dr.claire.perfume
      @dr.claire.perfume  2 года назад +1

      🤣 yes I think that's a general vibe isn't it in mainland Europe? Definitely less reserved than Brits and more upfront honest. I had a friend at work who really didn't ever hesitate to say I looked really tired and needed to get more sleep and take more care of myself 🤣 no one British would ever say that! Brits rarely comment on anything personal and commenting on the smell of a stranger is a total no in the most part. Opium is nuclear 💥 I think it definitely requires confidence and flare to wear that one. 🥰

    Hello Claire,
    this was a fun video to watch. I like these themed videos because it allows content creators to explore their collections and share about what you have, the good, the bad and the ugly (so to speak). It's what I enjoy in Frag Comm as it's a bit more of a community and sharing a bit of fun rather than selling the latest and greatest to viewers. So appreciate that you took the time to do this and share your thoughts. - Jenn

    Loved hearing your picks and I giggled so many times at your stories and descriptions. Lol for Lola, which was was the first thing I thought of re: worst bottle. I agree about Youth Dew-that and old-school Tabu just make me gag. I think Sung is probably the most nostalgic for me. My cousin wore it for her wedding in 1989, and I loved the scent so much that I wore it for the next 10 years (it also kicked off my love for jasmine as a note). I always enjoy your videos-your take on things are so unique!

      Youth Dew is just something that's choked me out too many times 🤣 I think fragrances that introduce certain notes and make you think differently about what you appreciate in fragrances are the ones that you end up feeling nostalgia for. The ones that kick off deep love for certain genres are very very special, so I understand with your feelings for Sung! I hope you have a lovely weekend 🥰

    Hi Claire💙. What was it about Valentino Donna that you didn't like? That surprised me! Most nostalgic for me probably Coco. I haven't worn it in a long time. I need to on the next cold day we have. I think a perfect signature is Gypsy water. I had absolutely no interest in byredo because they are so expensive. (I'm more likely to pay a higher price to support an indie brand). I got the chance to try Gypsy water, with a couple of samples and I fell in love with it. And being able to get one second hand, I have one coming. I hope you get to try it! Have a great weekend.

      Hi Tina, I think it was just too powdery for me and it just disappointed me because I was expecting more leather and something more edgy than I got. I actually really like Coco and Coco Noir, those two surprised me! I recently tried a rose one from byredo and also de Los Santos, I liked both of them, so I can imagine I'd love gypsy water, it's on my list to try now! 🥰

    I'm embarrassed to say, but the only time I got a compliment was from my mother, when I was a teenager, wearing the first perfume I bought with my own money -- L' Air du Temps. Haha! I think what was in my head was a video I watched during lockdown when I knew the person in question had been working from home and she was saying how many compliments she'd got on her new fragrances and it made me think how?! 🤣 You aren't going out! But yes, I actually got three compliments last week, which is not typical but clearly shows sometimes you get more than others. I think there have been a lot of different people on my floor at work last week so that was probably why I randomly got more.
      I think if a cashier even smiled at me in the UK I'd do a double take 🤣 customer service is not really a thing here unless you are in very expensive shops. My brother lives in Florida and the difference between there and here always strikes me with restaurant service especially, I guess it's the reliance on tips and also the expectation of tipping generally. Thanks for watching ❤️

    Your videos are unmissable for me! (except for the period mid year when i was on a perfume nobuy and i had to abstain from all frag content lol). I’m so in agreement about the compliments! Here in NZ people aren’t clamouring to comment on how other people smell, either lol My most nostalgic fragrance is Michael Kors (the original one in the ugly square bottle) as it was scent of my early 20s. You have me so curious! Is it uncommon to compliment strangers on their perfume in the UK? I'm not exaggerating it's very uncommon for me to go out and not get complimented on my scent if I'm out for at least 3 hours. I'm in the South East US btw 💗

      Haha, yes, commenting on a stranger's perfume would be super odd here... Even with people you know it unusual I'd say. Relatives and close friends yes, coworkers, maybe not so much, although mine sometimes do, but most of them are from mainland Europe not from UK.

    ha ha I agree with you on the compliment thing, I take most of what you tubers say (bar yourself) with a grain of salt. You just know they are lying through their teeth😆

      I think this was my conclusion too when I saw one say how many compliments they'd had on their new fragrances when it was lockdown and I knew they'd been working from home 🤣 most complimented videos get a lot of views though, so I get why they'd want to make those videos. In reality, I don't get many compliments, but I tend to work with the same small bunch of people most of the time but I rarely come into close contact with them.
      Weirdly, the week after filming this, I did get three compliments, including two in one day, but that is so so rare! It is really not typical at all! I've been writing down fragrances I get compliments with this whole year. I might do some kind of analysis based on the numbers of wears and the frequency of compliments 🤣 haha!

      @@dr.claire.perfume I never get compliments from my perfumes either Claire and some are high end niche and expensive. My husband would only comment if he didn't like it😅😂 You must tell me what perfume you wore that got you compliments I'll run out and get it today 😂😂. My mum did love a fragrance on me last month and so I gave it to her, its called Maroussia. You can buy it in the Chemist Warehouse for about 15euro. It dates from the early nineties and is a very unusual fragrance to describe. I guess I wear perfume for me as it lifts my mood and I never feel dressed without it😊

      For me it's one that smells amazing after an hour or so, like with a lot of Tom Ford fragrances, the drydown is where it's at for me, same with noir pour femme and noir de noir. It's very earthy though and I get that it's not for everyone. 🥰

    Oh yeah I stopped trusting what youtubers at a certain size say. They probably got payed to say it. I never get compliments, so if no one is sneezing I take it as a compliment.
    Yes, I have low standards.

      🤣 weirdly last week, I got two compliments in one day and one compliment the next day... It's random but that was my most complimented week. I do tend to wear quieter fragrances so I guess if I were more beast mode, compliments might be more common. I did notice that the people who complimented me are not British... I think that says a lot! And yes I'm convinced that most people make it up... I watched a video in lockdown of a person who I knew was working from home and she was talking about compliments on fragrances she'd just bought and I was thinking who was this? Your children? Someone in a supermarket you went to? Cos those were really the only options 😂
