  • We're in Moab, Utah and I'm learning to mountain bike as a complete beginner. I've only been mountain biking for a few months now and have spent time on some easy flowy trails in other parts of the country, so Moab's mountain biking trails are definitely going to challenge me with their rocky terrain.
We're Paul and Shannon, and we travel full time with our two dogs, Doug & Jackson. This week we're in Hurricane, Utah and exploring some incredible hidden gems that southern Utah has to offer.
Thank you as always for watching, and we'll see you on the next adventure!

Moab is one of the best places on earth to MTB. We were in a similar situation. MTB was my thing and my wife wanted to try it but for years I kept talking her out of it. I didn't think she'd enjoy it or have much confidence. A couple of years ago we broke down and she bought a bike and fell in love with it. She's done way better than I expected, she's not a chicken, she'll attempt stuff I wouldn't expect, and she loves riding Moab and Sedona. I wish we would have bought her bike years before we did. Have fun with it, happy trails!

Wow I love that! That's so awesome!! I have yet to try Sedona trails on my bike, but hopefully that is in our future! Thanks for watching!

Mom here. Shannon, even tho I know your guardian angel is always with you, I’d feel better if you steered clear of the cliffs. 😅

We are all beginners doing new things. That which we persist in doing becomes easier, not that the nature of the thing has changed, but your power to do better has increased! Good job!

Me and my wife learned to ride Moab almost a decade ago. Very rewarding but definitely some tears. I remember her first time riding Ahab she had a full meltdown and I had to threaten that if she didn’t keep going the cows that were grazing out there would eat her. She still laughs about killer cows to this day.

Hahaha!!! Good for her because I definitely don't have the guts to try that trail system yet!

Many years ago in my 50’s I did Poison Spider Mesa with some buddies who were 10 years younger. After getting dropped on some of the climbs, we encountered a sheer mesa drop-off with a small spire next to it maybe 10 ft in diameter. There was maybe a 5-ft gap between the two, so I decided to go “macho” by jumping over to the spire. Once on the spire and acting a little cocky, I then realized that there was a strong headwind in my face - which made the jump back to the mesa a bit gnarly. But obviously I made it !

I've seen some really crazy things these bike riders do on these things. Really quite impressive! Or insane depending on your perspective. One in particular is off of Poison Spider Mesa that drops down a cliff face, following a very narrow path to the bottom. You two might know exactly which trail I'm referring to as the name escapes me. It's definitely for the experienced riders only. But, I do love Moab!

I wonder if you're referring to the Portal Trail. I've seen videos and it's terrifying! 😂 Goes right along the cliff edge!

@@WanderingWakims Yes! That trail is death defying! And I don't EVER want to see you two on that trail! I sound like your mother, don't I? 😁

You’re totally right! I do wear my regular gloves occasionally but biking gloves would probably be a better choice!
