@@miconis123this songs are different in their nature. I like Be Prepared too, but it is still a song from the cartoon character. Hellfire is more adult-oriented.
You should give the movie a look, to get the context. This guy is a church leader in Paris, who 'fell in lust' with a gypsy dancer in the square. Her name is Esmeralda. The Maria reference is that he's praying to the Virgin Mary to give him strength to overcome his lust for Esmeralda, but he's not all that serious about it, because he's like if he can't have her, no one will. He's actually praying for her to either be his, or send her to Hell. The scene in the movie is him singing this song in his room alone, with a roaring fire in his fireplace, and the dancer's form can be made out in the flames, as he visualizes her dancing and him feeling a certain way about that. Kinda dark and adult-themed for a Disney movie, and caused all kinds of controversy at the time.
I usually really like your reactions and Im a incredible fan of Jonathan. Thats why its kinda sad for me that he gives his all to tell a story and delivered the mental state of the character while you were looking so many times away and did miss the portrayed emotions. There are not many reactions to this cover out there and Im always happy to see one new. Still, thank you and have a nice day!
😂 the context is everything for fully appreciating this one. It’s truly one of the best songs Disney has ever made and it’s so underrated. The metal version hits different but is spot-on. Frollo is a self-righteous, racist priest who raised Quasimodo’s after killing his mother. But he keeps him locked in the bell tower because he is disabled and “malformed”. Frollo is racist against the Romani people to whom as Esmeralda, the beautiful, young dancer belongs. She escaped the Parisian guard and claims sanctuary at Notre Dame, so she can’t leave if she wants to be safe. She’s young and beautiful anddances as well, so Frollo’s piety and chastity are being tested. He wants to kill her, but he also wants to have her… which makes him want to kill her more. He’s praying to Maria (Saint Mary, mother of God) to give him strength to fight his carnal urges. It’s a VERY adult theme for a kids movie but it goes over their heads.
Bro, this dude is not a tenor. He's done a few songs where he hits bass too. He somewhat recently did a cover of hoist the colors with two other bass singers that is worth looking into. Other than that, great reaction man! There is a nice rabbit hole to dive into here if you want to hear more of his stuff.
The best Disney Villain song full stop. And I’ve never met a Jonathan Young cover I didn’t like! Excellent reaction.
I prefer Be Prepared from Lion King
