    This is most interesting! I don't play the oboe but have been reading Laila Storch's biography of Marcel Tabuteau. There is a lot of mention of canes, reeds, gouging etc that I had absolutely no idea about. The oboist has a lot of extra work apart from practising the instrument..... which has the most beautiful sound. Hats off to oboists!

    Flexibility tester... never seen that before, interesting but would add to the budget as well. But nice demo.

    I've watched your whole reed making video series and I like it very much. Very good information and nice presentation. You know your stuff. Since you mentioned that you play a lot of opera, may I ask where your orchestra is based?

      I play in State Opera in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia, since 2012.

    Super cool... what’s the sum total of the price of the equipments you use? Guilotine, gauger, splitter, knife, etc? Must be very costly to have them all...

    • @peterkovacs1397
      @peterkovacs1397  4 года назад

      Thank You 😉
      I dont know the total price, I bought it separately, from year to year.
      I was making my reeds lot of year by hand, ( maybe 15 years ) without machines.
      I had only hand shaper, mandrel and knife 🙂
      But, its a big help for proffesional life 😊

    What do you think which cane has the most dark sound ? And how depend thick of cane on reed.

    • @peterkovacs1397
      @peterkovacs1397  4 года назад +2

      Hello, is hard to say it, there is lot of canes with dark sound, also You can make it with Your style of scraping.
      Now I use a cane from Turkey, which is hard cane, has nice sound.
      I use Lavoro and Rigotti also and they has nice sound too.
      I use thickness between 56-58/100mm
      For me is less so soft and more than 58,59 is hard, If You use harder cane.
      It depend on hardness of Your cane.

    I use the Reeds n Stuff gouger as well. What bed and blade size do you use?

    • @peterkovacs1397
      @peterkovacs1397  4 года назад

      Hello, my gouger has 10,75 bed, and I used a 11,41 blade and now 11,70, which makes a little bit thinner sides.

    Could you possibly supply links to the tools you used in this video (or similar)? Some of the digital tools I'm not familiar with, I'd love to look at them! (Also, love this video!)

    Hello! I have a question, when you use the precision scale, how would you translate the results to the hardness tester? I mean, if you get 20 on the precision scale, how much would that approximately be on the hardness tester? Thank you very much!!

    • @peterkovacs1397
      @peterkovacs1397  4 года назад +1

      Hello 😉
      It depends on each cane You have, You get results maybe between 0,17 to 0,30 and You can choose which is good for You by trying it, and You get result that for You with Your cane is good 0,22, ( its a example )
      I did the compare now for You, and with my cane is 0,225 on scale the 9 on hardness tester
      and 0,200 is 13
      But as I said, it depend on the cane.
      So , I hope it will help You 😊
