    Oceansize is one of the world's most underrated bands, whose music has deeply affected me both as a listener and musician. They deserve so much more credit for writing such brilliant tunes that also challenge the ear. I hope kids will stream their records by the billions, they truly deserve that and then some

    Discovering Oceansize is a joyful and overwhelming experience. I love this song so much. If you want other recommendations I’d go with “Everyone Into Position,” “Oscar Acceptance Speech,” or “Silent/Transparent.” But you can’t go wrong with a single song from this band.

      God, yes. Every single one of these suggestions are phenomenal. I'd also add The Frame (title song of this album) for fun metering, or 9/11 Commemorative T-shirt for the same reason. Personally, this is my favorite album from Oceansize.

    Omgomgomgomg I’ve never been so excited to se a video drop in my RUclips feed. I’m fairly certain this is my doing as about a year ago I spammed Oceansize suggestions on every geebs vid for like a month. They actually only had 4 full length albums and a lot of singles with fantastic otherwise unreleased b-sides and about 3 eps that could practically be considered full lengths by most bands standards. They were extremely eclectic. 3 guitars (1 also played keys) + bass and a crazy wild card creative drummer. I love this band so much. No other band had as much of an effect on my life as much as Oceansize. Thanks so much Geebs! Loving my headphones!

    They're my favorite band of all time (hence the RUclips name)! They consistently reached the same heights, and still changed and evolved on every album. The complexity of their music doesn't come at the cost of musicality or feeling, it just keeps you hooked, even after twenty years of listening to them. Shame none of the other projects that followed from the separate members comes even close to what they did collectively.
    Also, Mark Heron is just the craziest drummer ever. Around their debut album he apparently even recorded bird song and turned it into these wonderful drum parts that are a musical piece upon themselves

    I can't say how much I absolutely adored Oceansize. They were like a 90s alternative take on prog metal. They didn't have 10 albums, they had 4 and a bunch of EPs and singles and whatnot. And they were active between 1998 and 2011. Drummer was apparently an addict and it was affecting their live shows and making the rest of the band get resentful so they split. One of my few regrets in life is not being able to see them live. I have their Feed to Feed and Frames DVD and they were extremely TIGHT.
    And to add an edit: Oceansize is fantastic music but I think it's one of those bands that's hard to appreciate in a reaction format. It's like when you try a new cuisine for the first time and you know you like and want to try it again but you're not sure why. I've personally had a very hard time articulating why people should listen to them other than "they're so good."

    • @iandarke7417
      @iandarke7417 2 года назад +2

      Bit more to it than the drummer being an addict (and I’m not sure if that is technically true). He was a factor in the break up, a big one, but there were a lot of other things going on. I’m not trying to come across as argumentative, I’m only commenting for the sake of fairness.
      I’ve spoken with Mike a few times about this and he’s always been pretty open and honest about it - he never gave this as the reason.

    • @NaanProphet
      @NaanProphet 2 года назад

      @@iandarke7417 Maybe addict was a strong term but my understanding is that Heron would arrive at the show trashed and it turned their last tour into an embarrassing hell. I believe it turned into a Hodson and Heron vs Vennart and Durose situation Gambler feeling like he was isolated and done. Forgive me for oversimplifying it but it's a RUclips comment section.

    A bit of the band. They were funded in 99 but got the first full-length album in 2003 (effloresce). Then 2005 (everyone into position) and 2007( frames, where this song comes from) last album was in 2010 (self-preserved while the bodies floating). They are 3 guitarist , but one of them sometimes plays the keyboards and that’s what you heard in this track. They were always full of layers. So again thanks for exposing them to a bigger crowd. You deserve a medal :) Always stoked to see Oceansize get some larger exposure. I'm surprised that in these days of social media and reaction videos they haven't been suggested more often to prog-friendly reactors. It's always Tool, Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Polyphia, Mastodon etc.

    FYI Oceansize started in 1998 and released their first album 'Effloresce' in 2003. They only released four full-length albums so not sure where you're getting your info? Maybe you're mistaking EPs for albums? Regardless, I'm still so pleased to see them on your channel! :D

      My guess is that the live DVD/CD set Feed to Feed added 3-4 albums and then yes, EPs (Home & Minor often gets listed as a full length for some reason). Toss in Music For Nurses (or don’t) and we hit 10.

      Effloresce is such a great album. I'm not a fan of the direction they took on their other works, like this. It feels unrehearsed and forced where Effloresce was full of tracks which were given more composition time to be more coherent

    Thanks so much for doing this one Geebz.
    They've been a criminally underrated band
    They are a 5 piece band, 2/3 guitarists depending on what they want for the song. 1 of those guitarists "Gambler" also plays keys

    Holy crap. I've been listening to Oceansize for years, since the release of Frames, and I just realized that the cover art is fractured "OEACEANSIZE" hence "Frames".

    This was lovely. Thank you. One of my favourite songs of all times, when I'm happy, when I'm said, when I'm anxious. Doesn't matter... in my opinion one of their most refined, trippy and beautiful works.

    I think I was one of the commenters trying to bring this song/band to your attention. Amazing to see you give it some time of day. In many ways I think these folks were my all-time favorite band. Very post rock, but a bit more complex and louder at times, great vocals, very unique but also very beautiful chords and melodies, great arrangements and it all still very much sounds like a band in a garage doing their thing

    You’re probably gonna get a ton of suggestions for this band. They, like tool, don’t really have a bad song. But one their songs that is more straight forward would be Sleeping Dogs and Dead Lions, or Unfamiliar off the same album Frames.
    Also, one of my favorite things about this band is they don’t leave the bass out. It’s so pronounced in the mix, and it’s good.

    • @maynarddrivesfast804

    • @gurushen99
      @gurushen99 2 года назад

      Somehow I doubt there will be a ton of suggestions. Unlike Tool who are one of the most widely known and celebrated 'underground' bands (i.e. historically little mainstream radio play) that fill stadiums, Oceansize are only modestly known in prog/alt circles and have probably never had more than a few hundred attendees at gigs.

    • @maynarddrivesfast804
      @maynarddrivesfast804 2 года назад

      @@gurushen99 well your last sentence is completely false. In fact, Oceansize opened shows for the likes of Smashing Pumpkins and Porcupine Tree. There are live videos of them playing to thousands. If you're TRULY into progressive rock/metal then you've no doubt heard Oceansize.

    • @gurushen99
      @gurushen99 2 года назад

      @@maynarddrivesfast804 It was a guess on my side, sorry. But in those cases they were not the headline act, which is kind of my point.
      They have a cult following for sure, but it would be disingenuous to think they're broadly known - even in Prog circles, which is already quite niche.

    I hope this is the start of an amazing journey down an Oceansized rabbit hole for you, my friend. These guys are underrated AF. So many layers, so much to uncover on every listen. Even to this day they surprise and intrigue me. How were they this good yet went largely unnoticed by the many?! Pull up a comfy chair, lay back and immerse yourself in the many layers of their brilliance. One of my absolutely favourite bands in the last decade or two. When you find the time, also take a little trip down Vennart lane (Mike Vennart of Oceansize is also a fairly permanent fixture as Biffy Clyro’s live guitarist), Mike’s last album “In The Dead, Dead Wood” is quite amazing also. Cheers.
