Okay so this is surely a discovery video for me. Didn’t know any of these artists other than the virgin prunes prior to watching this video.
Absolutely enjoying the Veldt’s illuminated 1989 album since late last night. Love the late 80’s references ‘CCCP’ and the everlasting gobstopeer. This album sounds fantastic.
I will be listening to the Whiteland’s debut bit later on. Ace picks like always and thanks to the Mrs. for some awesome recommendations. 🤙

Hey man! Very happy to hear you started listening to The Veldt album - soooo good. I think you'll dig the Whitelands as well. Definitely give the Anja Huwe a try too, Yas! Thanks for watching.

Hey Bret, enjoyed the video as usual. Really glad you posted about The Veldt, I had never heard of this band and it's really good. Hard to imagine Capital Records was that unhappy to not release it back in the day (bad decision). Certainly, can hear the influence of Robin Guthrie on that one. I had picked up the Xmal Deutschland album, but I wasn't aware of Anja Huwe's new album so I'm going to check out that. I saw the RUclips video for the single she put out to support the album and I thought that was excellent. A couple more I want to try out from this list (Whitelands, Last Dinner Party), and a couple I picked up this month I think you'd also enjoy are -
A reissue of the 2020 album from Steve Kilbey "Eleven Women" on splatter vinyl. He's always so good!
An Australian due called Hollow Coves with their 2nd album "Nothing to Lose", very nice soft folk/pop, similar to The Paper Kites, but just a really very nice uplifting listen.
Colouring is a newer act on Bella Union, and his album "Love to You, Mate", is right up your ally, I think.
New album from Topographies is out called "Interior Spring", and picks up right where the debut left off, but even slightly better (major Cure influence here), and finally the latest from
Real Estate is probably my favorite album of 2024 so far called "Daniel".
Thanks for the new stuff to check out. -- James

Hey James! Glad to hear you're digging The Veldt album. Definitely grab the Anja Huwe - I've probably listened to it 7 times in the last 2 days. Pretty excellent. Really varied in sound, borderline industrial at times, very delicate at others. I think you will LOVE The Last Dinner Party... and Whitelands. Thank you for mentioning the Steve Kilbey LP - had no idea that got pressed on vinyl. He's so prolific, it's hard to keep up sometimes! Also enjoying the Topographies second album - I believe I did a little mini review on it in my January 2024 finds video. Thanks as always for tuning in. - Bret!

Have all the Xmal albums. Fetisch, Tocsin, Viva, and later Devils. First are two postpunk must have's. Viva is good too, but not as dark. Devils is just Anja and original bassist, more in a pop rock vein. Not bad. Hard to find, I hear. Can't go wrong with the first three , though. Glad Anja is recording again. Will have to check out Veldt . Cheers. -Mark

Hey Mark. Have you checked out Anja's album yet? I think it's pretty fantastic. Hoping someday the final 2 Xmal albums get a reissue - maybe Sacred Bones will pick them up, now that they've handled these 2 releases. Definitely check out The Veldt album I showed. Gold.

@@BretHelmsLifeOnThisPlanetBlog Will do. I somehow doubt Devils will get reissued. Just too poppy and I think Anja has disowned it. Glad I found a copy in the 90's. Some decent material.
