    would you recommand replacing the expansion valve at the same time ? is it necessary ?

      @@g.simard854 I would recommend replacing it at the same time. Not absolutely necessary, but a smart move while you are there.

    I'm sure this is a dumb question. But there's no way to do this without venting the freon is there?

      Your correct, the R134a refrigerant has to be removed before replacing any a/c component.

      How did you know it was time to replace the heater core?
