Look how nice and clean and civilized New York City looked 25 years ago. No cell phones, maybe a few by the businessman, but he didn’t see people with their head stuck in the phone. One of the window washers that I knew went up on the roof because he thought he would be safe and he never made it. His name was on the list of the people they never found! Rocco!

The strange thing is why it took so long time for the authorities to actually admit to the media that it was in fact an airplane that flew into the North Tower. For many people, this first really became a reality when the second airplane hit the South Tower.
They also learned the hard way that you have to scramble fully armed fighter jets the very second it is confirmed that the transponder of a commercial airplanes disappears and that the airplane will not respond to comms check requests from ATC.
There was a 40 minute or more gap where the various ATCs tried to figure out what was happened to these flights instead of having requested to scramble fighter jets immediately.
It's hard to imagine a higher level of courage than the courage by the New York emergency services on this day. Many, if not most firefighters who entered the twin towers knew that they may not survive that day and this was especially the case after the second tower was hit and yet, they went in because that was the job.
The members of the emergency services, who lost their lives that day, shall never be forgotten, neither shall all the victims.
