Lay made an MV for Flying Asparas, but unfortunately he decided not to release the full MV coz he wasn't 100% happy with the outcome. I really really need him to take back his decision Lol. The choreographer is Huang Xiao, one of the dancers on a TV show called Street Dance of China 4, in which Lay was the captain of a dance team.
From what I’ve read Yixing didn’t like the MV only those 40 seconds of it. So we sadly won’t be able to see it.
He released an EP. And if you liked the first one you will love Lit.
Flying Apsaras video is like a movie trailer and the dance practice is more like a performance video. Lay is an ART.
What a contrast tho, from a serious song to a very flirty one hahaha.
Lay is an ambassador for China, so one of his goals is to share Chinese culture with the world. One way he is doing this is by creating his own style of music which he has labeled M-pop. M-Pop stands for Mixed-pop, which means he mixes traditional Chinese elements and sounds with mainstream pop and hip-hop beats and styles -- combining old school Chinese culture with new modern hip-hop and contemporary beats and styles.
Lay is a singer, rapper, songwriter, composer, producer actor, director, editor, dancer, designer, etc. -- genius -- and with every new release of his, he just one ups himself. When it comes to Lay's solo work he does it all -- he writes, composes and produces the songs (including the rap sections), he even creates all his own beats, he has a large part in the choreography and he has a hand in coming up with and directing the MVs. It is also all financed by him. As you may know, he even owns his own production company called Zhangyixing Studios, which is named after Lay. (Zhang Yixing is Lay's real name. Lay is a stage name given to him by SM Entertainment.)
The choreography for "Flying Apsaras" has also been designed to highlight Chinese culture by using a lot of traditionally Chinese dance moves and styles.
As you know, Lay is the Chinese member of EXO and he was originally meant to fill the same role in EXO-M -- the Mandarin Chinese sub-unit of EXO -- that Kai fills in EXO-K -- the Korean sub-unit of EXO. Kai is one of the top two BEST dancers in Korea (Taemin from SHINee being the other top dancer) and Lay is one of the top dancers in China.
Lay's catchphrase is "Balance" which means that when it comes to choreography and synchronization it has to have balance. If it's not balanced then it's not good. So his attention to detail when he creates music and choreography is on point. Like all of SM's top dancers, Lay is super dedicated when it comes to dance and music.
Within the Chinese music industry and dance community, Lay is regarded as an industry expert that pretty much all other dancers and musicians look up to. He has even started his own Idol trainee company in China -- with SM's blessing -- called Chromasome where he plans to use his talents to influence the world entertainment industry and to pass his skills and knowledge on to the next generation, etc.
When Lay puts his mind to something he goes all in and immerses himself in it with a goal of becoming the best at it. That is why he is regarded as an expert at so many different things, because he becomes so involved and studies and practices so much that he eventually overtakes his teachers.
As others have probably mentioned, Lay is a perfectionist and he is never satisfied unless everything is as close to perfect as possible, which is why we don't have an MV for "Flying Apsaras" yet. He wasn't happy with the final product. His new album is called East.This is also why Lay is involved in all aspects of his music. He takes pride in the fact that all parts of his work is done by him.
5:06 He himself thought of this. He directs, gives creative direction, produces, give pointers for the choreography etc. Choreographer is a Chinese choreographer named Huang Xiao, he's an incredible choreographer, but Lay is also actively involved in giving ideas.
Thanks RJ. As you can tell, Lay is a great dancer...he's been an performer his whole life. You saw in his guide what he's capable of, and that he's serious about dance, a perfectionist, and very technical and great at coveying messages through his music...uh, "Honey"...yeah, a totally adult theme.😅 But Lay is a natural at dance, he has done so many genres of dance and music...especially since he's been separated from Exo in 2017 and focused on his solo careeer. He's a well known celebrity, not just around the world with Exol, but especially in China. Since 2017, his success has been phenomenal. Several albums later, now, Lay wants to bring more of his Chinese heritage into his music and dance, and "Flying Apsaras" shows that so well. His major album "Lit" , with the mv "Lit", started to show his traditional sounds with modern beats and rap...and also singing. He does everything, writes the music, produces it, choreographs, and since he's a multi-millionaire through his success in Exo, then his solo careeer.. he uses his own money. My favorite song from the "Lit" album is "H20", which is r&b fused with traditional instruments, so beautiful. But this "Flying Apsaras" is a song from his new album "East", which is also traditional fused music.
"Apsaras" are mythical female celestial beings of the clouds and water, with powers, that includes flying...Lay sings of dreams of flying like the apsaras, and sings "Imma bout to fly" in the song. Traditional beliefs in Asia..Hindu and Buddhism. You said it sounds powerful, yet as simplistic as tbe dance moves may seem, they need core strength to do them...and their hand and arm gestures are symbolic in Chinese dance. Lay is never simplistic, as he is telling a story here. And it is elegant at the same time, Lay is art.

Lay is a king of perfectional and detail artist, Flying Asparas MV was made, but Lay was not 100% happy with it so he decide to release "a visualizer" instead. I'm hoping he would release the full MV tho', because the song is that good, it's need a full MV ❤️

This is quite an experience, right. Lay's dances can be so graceful yet powerful , then the next minute he can be hella disrespectful 😅. I can say he's probably my favourite dancer.
On top of that he so talented, composing, directing and produced his own music.
He's a hardworker and a perfectionist, the Flying Apsaras mv didn't meet his expectations so he only release 40sec of it.
His ambition is to introduce Chinese culture to the world, so his recent releases combine Chinese traditional music / musical instruments with modern sounds. In Flying Apsaras, he also incorporates traditional chinese dancing.

Omg i was so delighted to see you react to Lay as your Exo comeback haha. I can't remember if you already reacted to Lit or not, but if you didn't it's a must. We don’t call him LAYSHAWN for nothing! He’s definitely in the King of China’s entertainment circle. Yixing “Lay” was a child actor in China long before he was recruited by SM entertainment in an open audition. He has since returned to his home in China in 2014 and have continued to write, direct, compose, and produce his music establishing his own label and Chromosome Entertainment Group to recruit and train the next generation of young talented Chinese wannabes. Lay has also co-starred and starred in several Chinese dramas with critical acclaim.
Flying Apsaras is the promo track for his new 2021 EP East, choreographed and danced by Huang Xiao (Hello Dance Studio owner), the Hello Dance team (all the dancers in both vids), and Yixing (Lay). Yixing has stated he won't release a MV and so far no one has successfully convinced him to. Honey is the promo track for his 2019 Honey EP as a follow up to his USA market debut w/Namanana. The song was choreographed by the EZtwins and i'm not sure about the dancers but most of them seem to be dancers hired by SM.

The flying apsaras supposed to he mv but because of some quality problems the result didn't satisfy Lay, so he decided to realise visualiser at least. His whole new mini album EAST is pure art and all of the tracks are produced by Lay also.
I reccomend you to watch his last mv "lit" too you will realise the level of his standards

The lyrics of Honey was written by DJ White Shadow, who write and produced many songs for Lady Gaga. The lyrics is very seductive, but is totally different from who Lay is. Lay barely had any time for personal life and he is not the player type if you know him well.

"Honey" is another one of Lay's solo English songs and it's in English because it was a follow up to his previous album Namanana. (Namanana was Lay's 2018 U.S. debut album so all the songs on that album have an all English version.) You heard Lay listening to his song "Give Me a Chance" on his earbuds at the beginning of the "Honey" MV and that is one of his songs and MVs from his Namanana album.
When it comes to EXO, one thing you have to keep in mind is that absolutely everything they are involved in is connected to their concept and storyline, including a majority of the members' solo work. So, the story in Lay's "Honey" MV is just another piece of EXO's story.
To explain the story in "Honey," some fan theories say that the fact that the weather lady on the TV is talking about the changing weather and the pressure system could be a nod to the unsettled conditions within EXO's current storyline and how currently the members are struggling to distance themselves from the Red Force, etc. And because you hear her speaking with a British accent this might be a clue to tell us where Lay is right now within EXO's storyline, and it might explain why the other EXO members seem to be sending him messages -- as we see with the bee and the blackout, etc.
If you follow EXO's storyline than you know that they are supposed to be aliens from Planet Exo, who came to Earth to find and protect the Tree of Life from the evil Red Force. All the members of EXO have superpowers and they are on a mission to protect humanity from the evil and corruption caused by the Red Force. Most of EXO's powers have weather and nature elements that could be affected by and effecting the weather around the world.
Some theories say, the mechanical bee has been sent by either one or more of the EXO members or it could be sent by the Red Force. The bee is either a message or a warning sent to Lay (although I am not fully confident as to what that exact message is.) And I think, the fact that the bee passes through the glass, might be Kai using his power of teleportation to allow it to pass through it -- or more like, transported to the other side of the glass. And then the lights in the entire city go out as if in a blackout, which I think might be Baekhyun using his power, which is the ability to control light, or Chen, who has the ability to control electricity. Plus, as Lay's power counterpart, it makes sense that Baekhyun would feel the pull to want to find Lay. Chen is a member of EXO-M along with Lay, so he would also have a heightened reason to want to find Lay. EXO needs Lay to help protect them and to heal all the things that are going on around them. And Kai's whole mission is to find the other EXO members and bring them back together to stop the Red Force.
Also, I think it's interesting that Lay, as a member of EXO, has the power of healing, and honey is known for its natural homeopathic healing and medicinal properties. And in parts of the MV we see Lay submerged in a pool of honey, almost as if he might be using it to recharge and gain strength. I have no idea what this all means, but I just thought it was an interesting parallel.
If you notice the part of the choreography where Lay is standing in the middle and the dancers are all round him as he spins around, I am pretty sure that is supposed to be depicting a flower as it blooms which is what is attracting the "bee" to him. :D
On the flip side, the story in the song also is saying that Lay is a bee and he is looking for his "honey" that's why he is in a honeycomb/beehive or in a pool of honey the whole time. I think what he is saying in the lyrics is that "Be my honey and be available to me when I want you, but 'please don't catch no feelings' because you have to know that we can have fun together, but I can't invest all my time and energy into you the way I should if we were in a relationship." In other words, he is too busy and too popular to be exclusive right now. He needs to keep the girl at a safe distance for both of their emotional safety, etc.
This also plays into the theory within EXO's storyline that the "girl" is a manifestation of the heart of the Tree of Life and that is why the members of EXO are always rescuing or protecting the girl, etc. And why all of EXO's songs are about being in love with a girl or being controlled by the power of the girl. Which could possibly explain the lyrics in "Honey" if you think of the girl as the heart, it might explain why Lay "wants her" but needs to keep her at a distance to protect her, etc. When you think of the girl as the heart of the Tree of Life, you begin to see even more parallels to EXO's story and even more ways to connect even more of it all together.
Did you notice the spinning honeycomb in the middle of the MV? That spinning honeycomb is a nod to the fact that even as a solo artist, he is still part of EXO. The hexagon is EXO's symbol and if you pay close attention at that spinning honeycomb you will see that it says EXO in the middle as it spins. So this is Lay's and SM's way of making sure that we never forget that he is part of EXO and that even if he isn't able to work with the group, he still makes sure to show just how important they are to him.
As you can see, EXO's MVs are more complex than what you see on the surface. However, often -- although the stories in the MVs are loosely based on the lyrics -- many times the story in the MV and the lyrics in the song are two separate things. The lyrics don't necessarily always go with the story in the MV. Often EXO's songs are about being in love with a girl and wanting to be with her, but the story in the MV is about them working to complete their mission and to fight against the Red Force, etc. Everything EXO does has many layers and it has multiple means and messages, including any of the member's solo work. There are always two levels to every EXO song, one designed to grab the casual listener that has no idea about EXO's storyline, and one that, if you look deeper, you discover has hidden meanings and messages that all connects to EXO's mission here on Earth.
For any of us that know EXO, and especially Lay, "Honey" is kind of exactly what we would expect from him. This is just the sexy, cool kind of song and amazing choreography that Lay is known for. All the guys want to be him and all the girls want to be with him. If you look at the credits for this album, Lay, once again wrote and composed and produced this song and the whole album himself, including the English lyrics. He even created the beats himself. And he also helped choreograph and direct the MV, etc. When it comes to Lay's solo work he pretty much does it all himself. He has a hand in all aspects of his solo projects. And that is why he is known as China's national producer.
Notice how Lay's "Honey" dance practice was filmed in SM's dance studio. So, because "Honey" was released around the time when D.O. was preparing to go into the military, it looks like not only did Lay spend a brief few hours back in Korea to visit D.O. -- and the rest the members -- before he enlisted, but within that time he also filmed this dance practice. This man works way too hard. He must have literally went to Korea, said goodbye to D.O., hung out with the members for a very short time, filmed this dance practice and then headed back to China. We know he wasn't in Korea for more than a few hours that day, we saw footage of him arriving in Korea in the morning and sprinting to make his plane back to China later that same day. (Which is why I think this video was released by a random RUclips channel and not on SM's or Lay's Channel because he wasn't supposed to be there, and he definitely wasn't supposed to be seen working with SM.)
I've heard that the full MV didn't meet his standards, so they only released parts that he was happy about. We probably won't get full MV,,,,
Lay says that the mv is not up to his level so that is why he is only showing the 40sec of the video ;(
