I've got 2.5hrs on my Talon in sharp/rocky AZ single track. I'm seeing the same wear you did with similar hours. Sort of disappointing but it does hook up well for those gnarly hill climbs. Also I'm impressed with the braking from the talon. It gives great feedback and doesn't lock up easily like other tires. If I had to take my tires to the shop for install, I'd probably say pick something a little longer wearing but for those who change their own, it's great for the price.

I put one on. It was good for about 4 hours then started getting loose. Brand new seemed equal to the 525 cheater but then faded. I’m in about 20 hours and it’s painful to ride. I’ve lost most stopping power and it’s spinning on anything loose. I’m done with it. My 525 on the other hand seemed to get better with wear and lasted much longer (50 hours? Including a trip to Death Valley!

Good review/comparison. I ran a Talon for about 20 hours and did not care for it at all, personally.
I ran it in a wide variety of North Carolina/Tennessee/Virginia terrain - everything from slab rock to mud and wet roots. I normally run either an IRC VE33s or JX8, and both of those are far superior in both grip and wear in the same terrain/conditions. The biggest issue for me was just the overall grip, but that it seems to loose that grip much more suddenly than other tires I've used.
At 20 hours the Talon was pretty much done for me, I swapped on an old (probably 30+ hours) VE33s I had laying around and felt like I had superpowers on the bike 😄
Anyway, just my experience based on my riding/terrain. Glad it's working well for you!

Interesting. Do you have a lot of clay? I feel the v33s cleans out better. It definitely lasts longer in my neck of the woods too.

@@TechEnduro In some places there is a lot of clay. But even in the dry, I was frankly surprised how/when the Talon lost traction. My first ride on it was at Brown Mountain OHV, which is big grippy rocks, in the dry - and I kept almost crashing for the first couple hours because of it breaking loose where I would not normally expect a VE33s or JX8 to. Most noticeable on steep climbs. Frankly I'm wondering if the tire or compound is too soft and is collapsing or otherwise not providing enough hold up to actually "grab" the terrain and push the bike forward.
For reference, I was running a broken-in Nitromousse plushie, two rim locks. Same setup as I'd use on other tires.

I have the same feeling as you about the talon. It is unpredictable on what it will grip on and lose traction on. Im in south central Kentucky /north central Tennessee. One and done for me.

I get one 2 hr race and I have to flip any tires I run. Just got the talon to try this weekend. I wish I could run a tire for 10 hrs before flipping!

I’ve ran the jx8 for a along time but only 10 hours out of a tire before it germinated doing sprint enduros. Bought one of these not hoping for longevity but the cost is right on for the cost I was spending on the irc tires.

Got about 10 hours on mine. Feeling like this maybe be a 30 hour tire max. Was running a shinko 505 seems to be a 40-45 hour tire. Close in terms of cost per hour. Performance of the talon is falling off quicker. Not sure i would buy again.

You didn't speak at all about the performance. How was the traction compared to the at81ex?

I found it comparable. It’s dry out now so everything is hooking up though.

Amazing. As good as a at81ex
