- We made it! In a functional car too! Arrived at Amelia Island for the full weekend of car shenanigans and Porsche Rennworks Reunion. Join me and the Auto Amateur for a full tour of what to expect if you are interested in attending Amelia Island Concours D’Elegance and everything that surrounds it. Imagine SEVEN Porsche 959s lined up next to each other! I interview one of the owners of the 959s and he shows me round his car! Quite a story there!
Yeah OK, my Porsche 928 is at the cheaper end of the car spectrum here but it fits RIGHT in! What a blast! Join me as I show you around all the places to see (including Brumos Collection) so you don’t miss anything! You’ll also see what Porsche themselves have brought to Amelia Island and I must tell you that you’ll see a new GT3RS revving its engine and the interior of the new 911 Dakar too! The difference between the 959 Komfort and 959 Sport body work is, there is no oil filler flap on the left side of the car on a 959 Sport.

The problem with the dakar is no one who buys one and pays the market adjustment markups will ever drive it like it was designed to be. No one will be taking these to the dunes or actual rally courses anywhere :(

Yes, English. Lived here for a long time though! You should definitely go. Very relaxed atmosphere and chock full of cars!
Seven 959s! Outstanding. If I remember correctly a few US celebrities (Bill Gates, Bill Cosby and Indy Car driver Danny Sullivan) ordered 959s when they came out. The cars couldn't clear customs and were locked up in New York. I don't know if the buyers ever got their cars. I think to be road legal in the US a certain number of cars had to be crash tested and that wasn't happening with a rare limited edition super car. There was an article in a Porsche magazine years ago stating that a 959 was seen somewhere on the roads out on the West Coast. When the sighting was reported the driver took the car back over the border into Canada. I believe a new classification was created to allow cars like the 959 into the US without the crash test.

Very cool! However I can't even afford one lug nut on most of them. I have always wished that there was a PPPCA (Poor Person Porsche Club of America). I think I would enjoy those events a lot more!
