This thing is a bit more powerful than the recently erupting Icelandic volcano. It's not as large as Kilauea but it seems more pressurized. For sure some of the residents of the island of La Palma should consider evacuating even if they do not appear to be in imminent danger.

It's the trapped gases that cause a lot of the problems. Rhyolitic lava is very serious. It's high viscosity, melts at a high temperature and traps gases easily. That's how you get pyroclastic flows and explosions, like they had in the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, below Vesuvius. When pumice is produced with a bunch of little holes in it, that's the gas trying to escape.
Eventually a good chunk of this island is going to fall off sending a 200 to 400 foot wave for the Eastern seaboard particularly the South, in the eyes of the powers-that-be -less news coverage = more Trump supporters get drowned
