As a veteran Vance should be embarrassed and ashamed to try to pretend Trump did’t disparage the Medal of Honor. Giving the medal of freedom to someone who donated millions of dollars to his campaign in no way compares to the courage of those who were awarded the Medal of Honor. As a veteran I am repulsed that Trump wants to be president again.

The late Senator John McCain, who survived more than five years as a prisoner of war and refused an early release because he refused to be given preferential treatment over his comrades, was not a war hero. "I like people who were not captured," Trump said before his election to the Oval Office. Trump himself did not serve in the US Army. He was discharged and thus avoided deployment in the Vietnam War. His former lawyer Michael Cohen stated that Trump admitted to him that he had invented an injury in order to avoid deployment. Trump is a coward and remains a disgrace to the United States of America.

I believe what he meant was that someone who received the civilian reward is better off… because usually people with the medal of honor are shot many times or killed. For the first time in 34 years I will be voting for the Democratic candidate for President.
I think you are taking President Trumps words our of context. He noted the it's soldiers who can get the Medal of Honor and that it's often soldiers that suffered and died who get it. Where as the Medal of Freedom is potentially available to more people because it's a civilian award. Both are special but unique to each group.
You are wanting to get your nose out of joint by not understanding context.

That is irrelevant. President Trump sometimes is not the most eloquent speaker. He noted that both awards are special, one is for only military personnel and often due to combat injuries or death, which makes it an award to a smaller class of people. The other is a civilian award which obviously is potentially available to any civilian who for whatever reason may deserve it. President Trump noted their equal class.
He was not denegrating military personnel who received the medal of Honor. He was making a note while giving an award to a lady the medal of freedom and wanted to hilite it's status.

Using Trump's own words, this is the SECOND time he's made a comparison between the Medal of Freedom and the Medal of Honor. The first instance was when he presented the Medal of Freedom to a donor, and the second time was just the other day when he repeated it at a news conference. It's simply despicable. Comparing a civilian award to the Medal of Honor, which represents the highest military valor, is a serious misstep that disrespects the sacrifices of our service members.

I'm a Marine vet 02'-06' with 2 tours in OIF. While watching mortors drop around me daily I had plenty of time to think on this matter. It is much better to receive these awards in person, military or civilian. But most military receive it after death or have a shredded body that make the rest of their life difficult. Many parents, spouses, and family would rather have the person back from war alive and intact. But it's part of their "voluntary millitary" service to be in harms way. As a civilian it takes more courage to say "I'll make that sacrifice", because their is no obligation to sacrifice yourself for others as it is implied with millitary & first responder services.

Veterans are trained to do what they do, but a civilian doesn't go through the same training, so when they earn it, it's special. So are veterans, but like I said, they are trained and sign that blank check. They are expected to do their duty. When they go beyond they get awarded as well. So in some cases getting the civilians highest award is more valient than a soldier doing their duty. That's not to degrade either. To me that's not Trump disrespecting veterans, it's him praising the Civilian.
Trump does not love or honor veterens if his comments are to be taken at face value.
Tell that to the veterans voting for him because they know how much he respects them.
