Well, in the first place the Germans were soldiers, told to follow commands like any other soldiers of any other country. They had honor and humanity, too. Nazis and the Wehrmacht are two different stories.

but i doubt it would be faithful to the story, i always said " if you interested in watching documentary movies, watch those made by the losing countries, they have less propaganda and be more truthful to the story"
Very well put, I've heard this story numerous times, but to see the video of the two meeting was beautiful. I'm always impressed and inspired in humanity to hear stories like this. Where at war, in the worst of times, things like duty and service can meld so easily with hate and fear. The honor shared between aviators has always been pleasantly surprising to me.
In truth, had the Germans gotten word about Stigler's actions, even hearing about from the Allies (via spies, rumors, however it would've been received) would've given cause for Stigler to be executed as a traitor. He risked his life twice that day to save an known enemy and live to tell about it.

@@victorcarneiro4715 There HAVE been talks about a movie adaptation. Personally I feel like for them to do it right they must do one thing... Gather the cast and crew together and then give EVERYONE a copy of the book and say "This is the script." Seriously the book reads just like a movie. It's THAT immersive.
@@Kamina.D.Fierce Tottaly agree with you. Or even better, they could do a series sort of like Band of Brothers with an intro of whatever footage they can find of the original crew on each episode :)
@@victorcarneiro4715 That could work. Honestly. They could make a 6 hour movie and I'd enjoy every second of it. Of course that's not very feasible for most people, so splitting it into say 2 3-hr movies or 3 2-hr movies would be sufficient too. But a series... Hmm... That allows for more time and building which is honestly very crucial to this particular story. So... Hmmm... Perhaps an hour long episode per book chapter?
@@Kamina.D.Fierce That would be perfect. 👌
That shot of the B-17F and the Bf 109-6 flying off together when the deaths of Charlie and Franz were mentioned was absolutely beautiful. Probably how they made their way to heaven. Charlie piloting his B-17 and Franz in his 109 providing escort once again and for the last time as they make their final journey to The Great Beyond. I hope Charlie waited for Franz to join him. RIP to both pilots.

I’ve done something similar to this in War Thunder, but it was just me and my friend, him being a bomber and I being the escort Bf-109. At first people didn’t get it once they saw it, but a few people recognized what were trying to shed light on. The fact that the German pilot spared the B-17 and later became the pilots friend warms my heart.

Yes but you have to understand that this is an extremely rare case. Any other German fighter would have shot down the bomber without hesitation. The vast majority believed in the Nazi ideology. Even those who didn’t know what they were doing were still fighting for an evil regime. I doesn’t matter if a soldier is evil. They were still killing American solders and fighting for Hitler. In the show Galipoli, there is a scene where the Turks and the Australians agree to a cease fire to clear no man's land of bodies. Two officers meet from opposing sides and share a brief broken English conversation. The Turk points to the looming British Naval fleet in the bay, "That is politics."
