They can, sometimes, although I've found that if it's going to come out at all, its a matter of applied pressure. Having worked in refurb, the amount of stripped screws I've had to remove astounds me. More often than not the elastic got in the way.
October 14, 2022 - I "tucked" the link to this video away in a "drafts folder" with the intention of sharing with others years ago. I never sent it out, but I'm glad I found it again and will share it now. My sincere thanks to the folks that created this video. Well done.
Did anybody else think that the fork hammer was used to put a nail in between and then just smack the hammer down with the nail attached into the wood lol.
I have a novelty hammer that as a hammer head on one side and a bottle-opener in place of the claw. It has never been used for anything but kitchen stuff.
Helpful for us amateurs that didn't know, though. Like hooking the tape measure slot on a nail, and that your cutter has a built-in piece to break away to a fresh blade. Also consider that we amateurs are the ones that never have the proper tool on hand.
The issue is a lot of these are proper usage, and a lot of them made me cringe and for someone who doesn't know a lot about tools it could be dangerous to confuse them.
The first night I was in this one prison, you could hear about 200 guys all down the tier rubbing their knives against the concrete sharpening them. scratch, scratch, scratch.
I guess they needed something to shave with. :) Or to cut the fruit for makin' moonshine. 200 guys at the same time? Musta been some nasty and big kind of prison clint.
you take more time making the 'hack' than the time you'd spend hammering the nails into whatever object. Just bring the container with the nails...Also it doesn't work for bigger nails, either the nails drop off as a bigger force is applied to the nail due to added weight and harder swinging of the hammer.
we can keep going, using a nail to hold the end of your tape? but come on now, using two nuts on a bolt to loosen or tighten a similar sized nut? that one is nifty.
mike james or you just use a fucking wrentch! like atf people these things exist for a reason - to be used. they arent expensive and if u dont have one just ask your damn neighbor
@Matthew. For times when you don't have a wrench, but you have the nuts and bolts. That's what most of these are... for times when you don't have the right tools.
For the record though people thinking the drill thing was a bad idea was bogus... but you might want to be careful trying that if your on the brawny side. Wrenches turned sideways like that aren't that hard to snap. There is a reason they are shaped with the thickest part of the metal the plane of force you are applying. Odd's are if you can't get to loosen with one wrench the force it would take doing that would snap the second one. I highly recommend tapping it a few times with a rubber mallet, or a chunk of 2x4 to "break" the nut.
Often your other hand is not free, is holding what you are nailing, but of course this is the reason to have a tool belt, so you have a whole pocket full of fasteners.
Stinky Cheese I've used my mouth, pockets on normal pants, held the nails between my hand and what i'm holding onto and more to the same if not better effect. tried the magnet thing once and almost got a nail in my eye cause they all flew off
Ive bin a mechanic for 10 years i can tell you I love the wrench and coin trick! Say you cant find the correct wrench or dont have the size wrench, for the bolt or nut your unscrewing. Adding coins to the wrench trick is a life saver!!
My electric can opener broke, so I got a manual hand operated knob type. Broke the knob off and applied a Tyrap to keep the spindle from falling out. Then I put it in the cordless drill. Opens cans in a flash!
My late Grandfather (1889-2001) used soap or candle wax on wood screws. He drove all of them by hand and did not have the luxury of power screwdrivers. This one really works.
All of these were quite good, when I am doing work around the house and the stores are closed having the hack ideas for tools is just brilliant. All the ideas are well done and don't be bothered by the rude comments, some people just need to grow up a little.
A lot of quality deck screws here tend to be robertson or torx now actually. But even in canada, if you're working on something from before it was common practice, you're going to run into something that still used phillips.
Everyone in the comment section is a genius lol I was actually very surpised by the lighter being able to solder two wires together with just a piece of copper and flux. That was badass
Except... you know 3:27 where he pulls off a shit bend which frets out (probably due to playing it too far back from the fret bar), then plays a horrible note which is out of key and doesn't recover very well including some horrible note choices. Some of it is ok... some of it just hurts!
Are you one of those people who prefer the skrillex 3D intros with the uneven dubstep music playing throughout the entire ten minute video whilst a ten year old rambles on about the best way of ''How to get ultimate swag money on roblox''?
1: 0:26 what niche purpose is thus useful for.... 2: 2:26 common sense.... 3: 2:56 we just saw this.....great editing 4: 4:15 For when in point three you dont have a magnet.... (Typically i don't find the need to have only a few nails, so keeping them in a tub is good enough. Also a magnet is useful if you are working with gloves and cant pick up the nail. 5: 5:55 For that dumpster look.... 6: 6:18 because only women knit, they have to use a mixer instead of a drill...when men use drills to easily peel potatoes, or eat corn they are looked at funny, but its funny to look at blender being used as a drill... and then the video goes ahead and uses a drill....just wow..... 7: 7:27 if you have a glue gun and pencil sharpener and two chopsticks lying around, I am sure you have a knife as well.... This is more like how to make a shank tutorial 8: Basically the video finishes with some ways you can use a drill to avoid spinning things manually. Like a car jack, because when I get a flat and need to use a jack, I also have a drill sitting there ready to go.... All in all this video had some good points, and some, should I say dickcheese, sprinkled in for good measure.
1: I can think of one - let's say you need to drive a bunch of screws into a board, and they all need to be the same distance away from another board... 2: Maybe. I don't do this though. I just sweep the floor afterwards. 3: It's not exactly the same, but I'd agree they have three different ways to hold nails to a hammer, and two use magnets. Kinda weak. 5: I doubt anyone would be able to tell. 6: I thought they used the mixer because it holds the tube. How would you use a drill to do this? 7: Yeah that one was kinda ridiculous. 8: When I first started maintaining my own car I used to use a screw jack to lift it - not just for emergencies. It's painfully slow. I'm not sure about using a drill to speed it up though. I could imagine it causing a problem if you don't stop it in time. I've used a hook chucked in a drill like that to drive eye screws into wood, but I don't think I'd risk lifting my car with it. There's definitely some cheese in there, but my takeaway is that the video is meant to encourage resourcefulness. "Oh shit I don't have a , and I don't have time to head to , so maybe I can just ."
LordAugastus 10/10 comment would read more point-by-point youtube reviews. Papachabre the point of this video is to make USD$20,000 with next to no effort at all.
the first hack using a nail to hold the measuring tape down while you extend it was already invented and was made to do that so how's this a hack it was supposed to do that
Thanks for sharing, I can't believe the negative comments. If the trick helps a viewer great. If viewer doesn't like it don't use it. if they have a better one share it. Make the world a better place viewers. Think positive and gave a nice day
Wait! Snapping the blade of a blade designed to be snapped, using the part that was designed to snap it .... that's a mind-blowing tool hack? AMA-A-AZING!
The box cutter one blows my mind when people don't know the blade snaps so you can get a fresh cut and utilize more of the tool, rather than keep buying a whole blade.
oh wow, you just solved over half my frustrating problems! You are a genius, even if you probably didn't come up with some of these, the way you presented each made this a wonderfully gratifying video , THANK YOU!
I just wanted to see what the hammer & fork was used for.
OrcasWaling same, lol
It's used to raise view counts XD
Me too lol I thought it was some custom stud finder or something.

NICE
About the last tip cutting a bolt: cut beyond the nuts, hence when you unfasten the nuts they fix the end winding of the thread
zapopper, how do you know which end he was going to use?
probably because chucking up on the treads tight enough to do that is going to ruin them.
Collective Learning is what keeps RUclips useful to the survival of humanity. This video should get a Nobel Prize Category of its own.
5 minute crafts for 9 minutes! Thanks! ;p
14 extremely optimistic tool hacks.
Jonathan Carreño
My mind is officially blown. This old dog learned something new today. Thanks.
The wire stripper was genius.
Chris MCMLXXXII I'd be fired in a heartbeat if I stripped cable like that.
Or you could just get, you know, a wire stripper.
Had never thought that an elastic can be used as a buffer to a worn screw recess
They can, sometimes, although I've found that if it's going to come out at all, its a matter of applied pressure. Having worked in refurb, the amount of stripped screws I've had to remove astounds me. More often than not the elastic got in the way.
.... except it doesn't work. Use vise grips, not this joke of a hack.
That screw wasn't worn. It was a pozidriv screw and he was trying to turn it with a philips screwdriver.
Vice grips solves every problem :)
you can't use vise grips when the head is recessed and there is nothing to grab, jackass.
this video blew my mind with so many ideas and uses for tools. it's like McGiver had just put on a seminar !!!!!
Anyone else notice the phillips head screw change to a flat head screw at 0:43?
Yes, that's the real hacking.
And the shape of the blade changed too. It's magic!
Are you guys blind. The items stayed the same. It's all useful stuff. Stop being so negative
Pot, kettle.
What was negative about it, Andrew?
Are you sure that you didn't see the swicheroo?
I lost an arm a while ago. A lot of the 'hacks' shown here are very relevant and welcome to me. Thank you.

professional automotive repair tech here , and the coins in the wrench is one I'd never seen or thought of ,very cool video !
The brush attached to the cordless drill REALLY does clean the shower grout.
An astonishing array of ingenious hacks using common hand tools.

Did anybody else think that the fork hammer was used to put a nail in between and then just smack the hammer down with the nail attached into the wood lol.
I have a novelty hammer that as a hammer head on one side and a bottle-opener in place of the claw. It has never been used for anything but kitchen stuff.
That's exactly what I thought. I don't think I'm going to use my dirty, greasy hammer as a meat tenderizer. lol
Honestly, just get a meat tenderizer. They should be pretty easy to find, and pretty cheap.
... Funky Crumpet ... why not give it a go. Let us know.
No because you would want to put the nail in accurately
So butiful# 9 & Happy times dear friend 🌹🌹 God bless
some of these aren't hacks, they are proper usage.
yeah my I/O operator was malfunctioning
except for the double-wrencing and coins in the wrench
Helpful for us amateurs that didn't know, though. Like hooking the tape measure slot on a nail, and that your cutter has a built-in piece to break away to a fresh blade. Also consider that we amateurs are the ones that never have the proper tool on hand.

"why are all your wrenches broken?"
I saw it on youtube...
Prison shanks. Lots of prison shanks
The first night I was in this one prison, you could hear about 200 guys all down the tier rubbing their knives against the concrete sharpening them. scratch, scratch, scratch.
+Clint Walker are u sure they werent rubbing something else ?
You've never even seen the inside of a prison have you?
I guess they needed something to shave with. :) Or to cut the fruit for makin' moonshine. 200 guys at the same time? Musta been some nasty and big kind of prison clint.
Nice, fast moving video. No time wasting explanations needed. THANK YOU!!
Obsessed with holding nails on a hammer.
you take more time making the 'hack' than the time you'd spend hammering the nails into whatever object. Just bring the container with the nails...Also it doesn't work for bigger nails, either the nails drop off as a bigger force is applied to the nail due to added weight and harder swinging of the hammer.
Also, it isn't that hard to hold nails in your non dominant hand. I've done that for years at work.
5-Minute Crafts i'll forget in 5 Minutes

Wow, snapping off an old Stanley knife blade..... truly mind blowing!
It's almost like they're designed to do that!
I laughed at several times watching this...because the ideas were that good!
3:49 "sir do you have any idea how your house burnt down"
"Well I used a match head to make my hanger stay on the wall"
Had initially skipped the ad but after watching went back and watched the ad so you can get credit. Thanks, really helpful.
An exacto knife working the way it's intended is a hack?
Using a wrench on a screwdriver to apply more torque, which is the intended use on such screwdrivers, seems to be a hack as well...
we can keep going, using a nail to hold the end of your tape? but come on now, using two nuts on a bolt to loosen or tighten a similar sized nut? that one is nifty.
mike james or you just use a fucking wrentch! like atf people these things exist for a reason - to be used. they arent expensive and if u dont have one just ask your damn neighbor
I think the intention of the hack is if you're stuck and don't have a wrench.
all those hacks and that's the one thing you point out? why is everyone so critical these days?!
Number 51: Use car keys to drive to tool store.
In fact, you'd use a car. Nice try though
to buy a proper wrench ( 3:41 )
VoteScientist nn
This video is resourceful and pure genius. Skill wise, any one can drive and car and shop. You are wasting money at the tool store!
so agree - you can have a tool for everything but it's not there when you want it... how to be resourceful
BEST DIY VIDEO EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THANK YOU VERY MUCH, I DID REALLY ENJOY IT.
That nut & bolt wrench was pretty awesome.
Jim Brown257 exactly the one that made me hit the like button
You try it with a bolt done up and your going to be disappointed.
Why not just use the correct size wrench to begin with?
good
@Matthew. For times when you don't have a wrench, but you have the nuts and bolts.
That's what most of these are... for times when you don't have the right tools.
1 wrench, impossible to turn the bolt. 2 wrenches, loosens bolt no problem. When life throws a wrench in your gears, grab another wrench.
Ben Miller heh. this actually made me laugh.
haha

Just use your kitchen hammer. Gourmet only.
There's definitely more than 14 hacks in this video (lol)
yes but how many ways did they show to hold onto nails ? Using ones hand is faster than buggering about finding a magnet or elastic band .
Martina Guilherme Florencio yes but only 14 where mindblowing
Often your other hand is not free, is holding what you are nailing, but of course this is the reason to have a tool belt, so you have a whole pocket full of fasteners.
Martina Guilherme Florencio Really? The rest just werent hacks (just intended use) or really not mind blowing.
Stinky Cheese I've used my mouth, pockets on normal pants, held the nails between my hand and what i'm holding onto and more to the same if not better effect. tried the magnet thing once and almost got a nail in my eye cause they all flew off

5:10 "Cigarette lighter" :^) Thanks for teaching me how to dab without a torch.
There are so many helpless videos to this topic.
But this one is really helpfull!
This is all golden advice you will probably forget one year from now.
The secret tool is clickbait and hot glue.
Danny LOL.
My electric can opener broke, so I got a manual hand operated knob type. Broke the knob off and applied a Tyrap to keep the spindle from falling out. Then I put it in the cordless drill. Opens cans in a flash!
I haven't gotten tired of this video yet👍👌
I've got 40,000 deck screws. Anyone wanna come over and help me soap each one up individually?
I dip the tips in grease or oil. Reduces battery drain on cordless too
My late Grandfather (1889-2001) used soap or candle wax on wood screws. He drove all of them by hand and did not have the luxury of power screwdrivers. This one really works.
Just pour liquid soap into the container of screws and shake it up. Problem solved.
Some of these are cool, some of them aren't hacks, but most of them should be replaced with the caption, "go and buy the tool you need for the job."
All of these were quite good, when I am doing work around the house and the stores are closed having the hack ideas for tools is just brilliant. All the ideas are well done and don't be bothered by the rude comments, some people just need to grow up a little.
This is worth watching for the grout cleaning idea at 7:37 onwards.
mikes78, yeah I thought so too until I asked where do I get a brush like that?
They make drill heads that have that brush on them instead of cobbing one just buy the right tool.
And use spray-able Bar Keepers Friend for best results
Some of these hacks are against the rules of safety.
F... SAFETY, hahaha
You know the MOST MIND-BLOWING part of this video?
It's been watched ALMOST FIVE MILLION TIMES in three months!
Or you could just throw away your Philips head screws and use Robertson Head screw like we figured out in Canada years ago.
best comment. Henry Phillips probably just wanted to sell more screws and drivers by designing them to wear quickly
A lot of quality deck screws here tend to be robertson or torx now actually. But even in canada, if you're working on something from before it was common practice, you're going to run into something that still used phillips.
I think torx are the best.
Im all in for torx or allen head
Yeah, but Canada also has Celine Dion and Justin Bieber, so why should we trust you?
7:47 that's not a toothbrush. now THIS is a toothbrush.
Everyone in the comment section is a genius lol
