TheCarGuys have taken their sweet time delivering a full review of their long-term Ferrari 458 Italia - but 5 years later - let’s hope it’s worth it!
Bought new in March 2015, this is one of the last Ferrari 458 Italias, and it came with quite an incredible pearlescent Bianco Fuji triple-layer paint job. This then is a full review of this ‘daily Ferrari’ based on the personal experiences of TheCarGuys over 16,000 miles.
Is this the best modern Ferrari ever made? How reliable is a 458 Italia? What does it cost to service? How fast is it? What’s it like on a tight country road? How big the boot/trunk? What parts did Michael Schumacher help to design? What’s it been like driving this car for the past five years? All these questions and more will be answered in this week’s episode.
Apologies if during the driving sequences you noticed some sound degradation, we have tried to minimise this, but it was caused by a faulty mic.
Thank you for watching

I have had my 458 Italia since November 2011(almost 9 years ). Purchased new. Covered 55 000 km (34 000miles). Multiple track days , 6th set of tyres, 2nd set of carbon ceramic discs , 5 sets of disc pads. Not a single glitch ever - not even rust!
Used as an alternate daily driver with a GT3
Performance is scintillating. In fact words can never describe what an epic car this is. I plan to keep her forever.
Awesome to hear, Naren 👍👍
Naren,
I admire your love of driving over the resale value of your car. You and I think alike and are different than most people. Glad to hear your 458 is reliable and did not rust since I am considering a 458. I bought a Cayman R new 8.5 yeats ago and now have 53,000 miles not a single problem. When I drove a 458 and then drove my Cayman R immediatly afterwards I liked the heavier steering feel and more feedback with its hydraulic steering than I think the 458 gives. Also there was somehing different between the chassis feel or body structure between the 458 and my Porsche. The Porsche seems more solid. Do you have the same experience in comparing your GT3 to the 458? Other than that I think the 458 is superior in very many ways.
Impressive! How much were the brake discs, if you don't mind me asking?
@@TuddecBMW 20k
I’m deciding on whether or not to buy a 458. My only concern is when it comes to the brakes. The car has 14,000 miles on it. Does this mean I’m going to have to replace the carbon ceramic discs shortly after buying the car (as I plan on daily driving it)? Maybe when it hits 15,000-17,000 miles? The Ferrari dealer said they’re good up to 60,000 miles, but my Aston had the same brakes and they needed to be replaced after it hit 30,000 miles (it already had 14,000 miles upon purchasing).
The best modern Ferrari in my opinion
Seriously? Over the 488 pista & the la ferrari aperta? What are you smoking?
@@Lightworkps Tyres mainly remember he owned the ultimate prancing horse the F40
John Foster Anand said modern Ferrari’s.
@@Lightworkps pista is too track focussed and unlivable but I do love the laferrari
I honestly prefer it over the speciale because the speciale has a nasty front hood tbh, the OG 458 is better looking. I think the 488 is better looking than the 458 but ill probably always pick the better sounding ferrari in that sort of comparison
The 458 will stand the test of time. Great design, beautiful car, has aged so well and will never be outdated in terms of looks. And did anyone mention the V8 Naturally Aspirated engine. Ok, well I mentioned it again
Yeah, modern Dino......
The 458 in any colour with the black roof is going to still look current in 7 years time
360 cs is better looking. I don't get the black roof appeal, it looks like the top half of a black car stuck on the bottom of a white car
What about now
Somehow missed this 4 months ago but this car is still gorgeous to this day
To be fair, any 458 will look current in 7 years time. It's a timeless look.
Better without the multi colour, I think the black roof looks meh
Could this be one of the greatest Ferrari's of all time? Given the quantum leap from the 430 in what appears every way and the fact that it's really been the basis for the 488, Pista and F8?
Yes
Definitely
I remember when I first saw it on Top Gear and it was love at first sight. One of the most beautiful cars ever made. A true and total work of art.
Couldn't agree more!
Wow, corrosion on a 5 year old car? Unacceptable! And those indicators are a joke. Wouldn’t stop me having one though 👌
My all time favorite car just legendary.
Boy at my dentists office had a 458 in this same colour, it's like a fresh water pearl.
Ferrari will never make another V8 that sounds as awesome as this.
Absolutely love it, the first Ferrari I experienced was a 458 spider and I’ve been hooked on Ferrari and particularly 458s ever since. Great video, yet again
With all the specials, it's easy to forget that some of base cars are phenomenal to start with. Nice spec, great video Thanks :)
Great video guy’s. I’ve been waiting for a while for this to come through and thoroughly enjoyed it. Roll on the video for the NSX 🙏
As a 458 Spider owner I really enjoyed watching this video, Ive had mine 7 years so just had my final free service..I think the things that annoy you make the car interesting, every drive is an event..as I think you know I have a stable of some of the best NA manual cars but still the 458 excites me the most...I'm surprised you got rid of the Huracan Perf because I enjoy mine in a similar way to the 458...please cut down on some of the adverts..
Thanks Gentlemen - This is a great overview. Honest, insightful and exciting - i'd love to own one too . Keep up these fine reports....Lv ...s🎉🙏
Really enjoyed this one guys. Beautiful spec that will age well.
Scorchio😂😂 classic tv! Was great to meet you last Sunday - don't know who was more excited, me or my son.
Great video! Lots of fun! Thank you :) 🇦🇺
👍🏻👍🏻
A small thick affair that feels positive in the hands. Is that a euphemism Damian? 😂
As my dear old dad would always say, "Long and thin will slide right in, but short and thick will do the trick".
Paul Duell 😂😂😂
When u guys did your 458 vs 488 video, you convinced me that the 458 was the car to pull the trigger on..... I’m sooooo happy I did!! Keep up the great videos guys!!
Glad for you, Jag
Just between us, matching the speedmaster and the car is a nice touch. Classy.
That Ferrari has aged well. I like the wheels too, they complement well. Don’t sell it.
Yes yes yes ... Stunning car ... It stops any viewer in their tracks ... I have never driven one (yet) but I just know I'd be hooked ... Thanks guys .
Thanks chaps!!! Yet again a fantastic vid👍👍👍 Keep it coming🙏 greetings from 🇫🇮
👍👍
Great video, this is my favourite modern day supercar to date, still the best looking modern Ferrari, that front end is just unbelievable. It is my dream car.
I love the Ferrari 458. Its one of my favorite, along with the f12 berlinetta.
i went to buy a f12 and went home in a 458
@@paulinthailand That spec is beautiful.
Great page! I really enjoyed watching this one. Very informative and had all the relevant details! Thanks guys! 🙌😎
You’re most welcome
Always enjoy watching you two. Informative and funny. Keep up the good work
I have been waiting for you to do this since the 458/488 video thank you great video clearly I agree. I did not know about the corrosion issue ran down and checked... all good ... fit the carpristo value control and you get full sound all the time it’s transformative!
Just had a glass of wine but now want to go for a drive! Thanks on the advice a year or so back I kept the 458!
Thank you for review !
Very fun video. Thanks guys :)
Great episode and 100% with you on White 458.....although Bianco Italia.
Enjoyed this review, nice to see you fellows going through the pros and cons.
And today Damian I am sitting here watching your video wearing my brand new Tudor Black Bay 58 Blue, and not a lot else...
Er...
Great episode as usual. So glad I kept my 458. Just bought a 308 GTS. Old and new in the garage now. Thanks for your advice Damian.
Glad to help
Excellent video guys see you next week
I love my 458 Spider. I installed a tune from open flash that will bring back the wonderful burbles that the first 458’s has as well as add noticeably more power.
Great Video which gives a really good overview of the ownership. Always entertaining to watch. Damian Watch wins by a big margin today. - I need to confess that the CarGuys T-Shirt really gave me a hard time. I knew the logo but it took me about 15 Minutes brainstorming to find out that it was the Champion Logo. - You really got me there. Could you make one day something which is AGIP inspired? I would order it directly. Love the classic Logos.
My dream car! I still think the historical line started with the 308 for these cars.
I’ve driven one in anger at a track and was simply smitten with it. Chance of ownership for me is a pipe dream but you never know.
Keep it forever guys! Please....!
Brilliant lads, looked you two had a good time making this one.
Absolutely
Thank You for getting round to doing this one lads. In years to come it will be noted as one of the last TRUE GREAT Ferrari's. Its such a beautifull spec.
Our pleasure!
@@TheCarGuysTV if i can make a cheeky request..any chance of a review on the mercedes 230C (and perhaps 2nd Gen Cortina and Granada too) Ferrari is still a GREAT brand but they do need to be carefull.
Love you guys! You have my soon to be reality car and watch collection D! I love it all! I’m looking for my first Ferrari now, an F430 in manual. I’m so excited. My dream is the F40 which brought be to this channel at around 20K subs. Keep up the great work guys! Loving both channels and I look forward to much more quality content!
Thanks, Shawn - glad you're out there watching
Not a Ferrari fan but I’ve seen a few of these recently and they’re gorgeous.
How anyone thinks they need to have more than 560bhp and 3.4 to 60 on the road is beyond me, this would be a weapon and sounds UNREAL.
I’d be a chav and change the wheels possibly but it’s a stunner regardless lads 😍
After driving one of these on Wednesday, I have to say its such a special car! The handling is sublime and I was so impressed with the gearbox despite its age. Well done Ferrari, an absolute classic 👏
Couldn't agree more!
Very good review. Had the same car 62 plate 3 coat white with black roof (makes car look lower) and mine had black wheels with black skirts. I loved the car. Only peave was I left it outside in winter and in morning the clocks steamed up and a few lights erroneously came on and off like a cheap village disco. My car had a slurey upcharge on the manual gearbox but pukka on downshifts - tbh the Speciale I had still had the slight gearbox glitch although dialled out a bit.... Nice looking buggy mind and interior is very underdone and so much the better for it !! Ps I never figured out how to get the various screens (and sat nav was unfathomable) to flick between screens as they were so fiddly - but I'm 57!! Best button on the car the bumpy road one - always used it unless on French Motorways !
Ps so right on the indicator hokey cokey - even worse was the high beam light just over a thumbs width away from being able to turn on off quickly when car approaching you Grr!!!
Awesome,thankyou.As per usual great entertainment.Cheers
Hi guys
Just watched your five year 458 review. I am currently taking my 458 spider from the UK down to S France via Germany, Switzerland and Italy - no concerns about vans parked on road bridges or in lay-bys, just enjoy the driving!! Minimal motorway use. I do not find any pleasure in long motorway sections with this car. This is my second such car and I have committed to driving this one and ignore the miles!! You only live once so enjoy the ownership (my wife's instruction!). The car needs the "bendies" to enjoy its full potential, just like a sports bike. I agree with you regarding the radio but, being a biker, I am not used to having artificial audio. I much prefer to simply enjoy the driving experience and the exhaust notes so I never worry about radio channels or CD's. The brakes in the 488 do seem more effective. I concur regarding the indicators but have got used to their two modes of operation now. However, locating them sometimes in the middle of a roundabout can be fun unless you remain disciplined to leave your hands in the same grip position. In contradiction, I like that the gear shift paddles never move. They can always be located easily. And the luggage capacity for such a car. I am surprised at the amount of items I have managed to transport in my car at times. Currently, I have all five bags (available accessory) packed (2 behind seat, 3 in the boot) with items just to keep the car tidy while driving. You made no reference to the seats. Mine has the carbon racing seats which I find extremely supportive and comfortable even after hours of driving and they look the part for a car such as this. Simple and effective (no electric controls to go wrong) but just my opinion. For shorter people, they can provide a seating position too low but at 6ft, the height suits me perfectly. P.s. No visible bodywork corrosion on my 2014 model.
A very satisfied 458 owner.
Thanks for all the great info helpful to me
I love the 458. By far one of the most beautifully designed and best sounding non special modern ferrari. That chiselled front end is timeless.
Wonderful, wonderful car! 10/10 👍🏻😍🥰
(Bit shocked about the rust and nasty plastic fascia trim though!) 😳
But great vid, boys.😆
Miss my 458 Italia dearly...one of the greatest/best cars I have owned
Stunning spec and timeless! Definitely a keeper 🤩
Super episode guys!!
It’s an awesome car to own & drive! My 2012 is no garage queen & is used regularly contributing some petrolhead eye candy in my area, it never fails to put a smile on peoples dials. Recently driven the F8 at Eastern Creek race circuit incredible car but doesn’t sing like the 458. PS I’ve just checked out the Roma at the dealership & I’m in love “again”, now I have to figure out how to get one - without trading the 458 as I’m just besotted with it’s bark especially on the down shifts. Cheers for the update on yours - Car Guys Rule!!!
Thanks, dude!
Car guys reviewing awesome cars = Awesome content.
I have finally found time to watch this video and it was well worth the wait, my one and only drive of a 458 was in 2012 and this brings it all back to me, slightly too much information about cloth and bottom clenching😂 otherwise this is a very enjoyable video.
Roger Bailey Cheers, Roger 👍
Thank you.
Today is 4-27-2021. I will get one in 1-2 years. A 2015. Gorgeous car
These are brilliant, test drove a 458 spider in Italy and it is one of the best cars ever. I agree with the exhaust bark, driving it at slower speeds was quite annoying exhaust sound - not far off from when you have a car that your muffler goes out on and you are trying to drive it gently so it will not wake up the neighborhood. My color of choice will be the TDF blue.
What a machine, keep up the good work guys 👏🏻
👍👍👍
Brilliant as usual guys!! Love. That. Car. My 458 is the only one I think I will keep forever 👌🏼
👌
Why is the carpet coming away under the ac controls at 10.30
Friday afternoon job and they wanted some pasta and a shag.
It does that on most Fiat's
jahangir hussain I saw that as well, surprised he never mentioned that
Richard Wells I only noticed it during the edit, not filming. My guess is the OBDB port is there and it wasn’t put back properly after service, but I’ll have to check
Apologies for the delayed response _ guys this is without doubt the best review of the 458 on RUclips. You've told us all we need to know. Great
Thanks you very much, Giuseppe
Great video as always. As a 458 owner, I agree with all your points. The throttle is helped by using bumpy road mode and I find the breaks are improving over time (I now have 20K on the clock) - but far behind ceramics on my last Aston. If I could change something though, it would be the wing mirrors - they are far too wide and easy to knock (and near impossible to repair...).
I’m thinking of buying a 458. I just sold my Aston Martin db9. What do you mean by the brakes being far behind the Aston? I was told the brakes on the Ferrari far more durable and longer lasting than Aston’s. Is this true? Or are they about the same?
@@Aksh3 I was referring to the carbon brakes I had on my V12 Vantage compared to the carbon brakes on the Ferrari 458 Italia. With the Ferrari, they need to be warm to work well, where as the Aston seemed always to perform strongly from cold. Once they are at temperature the Ferraris are very good (although now owning a 458 Speciale, I think these have more feel). I cannot comment on the longevity - but no issues with any so far...
The 458 (speciale too) is the only “current” Ferrari that I lust after. I’ll take one of these Over a F8 or 488 every day of the week!
As always great content cheers 🍻 mates!
Much appreciated!
Great video, your 458 v 488 really helped in my decision to go with the 458. I have a similar opinion, the brakes do feel very “woody” when cold.
Glad we could help
I'm less bothered by the unintuitive radio switchology-- I just use my iPhone interface-- but your comments about the horn and especially the turn signals are spot on. I don't know how many times I've driven down the road like a knob for extended distances with them on because I couldn't tell...
Im in New York, USA - and have a 458 Spider - and totally concur. The blinker thing is not fake news ;)
Amazing video great job guys this car is pure passion and it shows. Also, I never appreciate white cars as much as many but this paint is beautiful 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Loved the intro!!
Decided to keep my 458 Spider, don't think the F8 will give me the same emotions.
U actually own one? bruh
@@deltapi6880 Yes 458 Spider.
@@KSL12 wow nice
I track drove one yesterday. Best car I've ever driven. And Ive driven a Prius so... yeah 🤷♂️
This is the most beautiful modern Ferrari. Period.
So true.. I even would go so far to say it is the most beautiful modern car per se. It inspired the design for the next decades, I think.
Disappointed not to see the bezel case of that stunning Alaska Project 😉 But seriously, fantastic video of an awesome car 👌🏻
Did you use your 458 during wintertime I am just asking because of your rust problems?
My dream Ferrari. Great video.
Would love one of these but there's still a list of things I'd get done:
-Manual conversion (EAG in San Antonio, Texas does them)
-Custom steering wheel, putting the horn, indicators, lights and wipers in their proper positions (horn in the middle, the others on stalks)
-HVAC area in a nicer material.
-Swap rubber switches for something more durable to avoid reversion (sticky switches)
Everyone loves thr 458. To me a black on grey wheels spider, done. Can do everything, very well while having a bloody grear ammount of fun.
I Haven't liked Ferraris design so much since this car, i always preferred the classic shape of the 360/430 and they still could be had with a proper gearbox, these 458's were the beginning of the cars that didn't make me want a ferrari as much as wanted the older cars...still wouldn't say no lol thanks guys
This is best Ferrari video i have not seen in ages!
The 458 is now my most favorite "Daily Driver Ferrari", but the previous model, with the same last generation N/A V-8 perhaps as good??
I found out that early 458's have this "pop" sound once you accelerate in neutral and the Rev goes down, I guess the ones that make that noise are from 2009 to 2011, after that they updated the ECU and they don't pop anymore... You can see the comparison here on RUclips... And Bianco Fuji is absolutely gorgeous in this particular model. I have an 1/43 Spider model in Bianco Fuji and red interior, just perfect. congrats on the car!
@@teakcore5261 i like the pop, its like a ´´signature´´ for 458´s
Stunning car, it’s the only car I’d consider chopping the GT3 in for.
Me and you both, but it would have to be the Speciale
The 458 is really the perfect Ferrari (and my favorite also)
I didn’t care for the couple previous models of ferraris but when the 458 came out wow it looked amazing. Now it seems like Ferrari comes out with a different model every 3 weeks
This is the reason I subscribed to the channel. I don't care about ugly econoboxes or ancient hot hatches (sorry Jason). I love aspirational cars like the Ferrari 458 or the Porsche GT3 Touring. Thanks TheCarGuys.
What a wonderful car, and the white paint looks terrific.👍❤️🚘
Cheers
Best Ferrari ever build. What a car🤤
It's definitely up there
Brilliant episode actually bought my own 458. Could not agree more but radio etc is not that bad to operate. Off course I have a huge advantage, I’m in Scotland😂. Also back up is a GRY in Red…..
Great review guys. I remember when Higgins told Magnum to get the Ferrari serviced. Magnum took it T.C to save a buck, who messed it up badly. So off to Ferrari, backfiring all the way. So no to home maintenance then. Cheers.
Bianco Fuji is amazing!!!
Appreciating the correct pronunciation of 'speciale'!
spetchiale
Nice video gents. Not only entertaining but also informative.
Appreciated!
thank you. I never knew about the corrosion issues,
Just finished watching jayemm review on your car lol
I don’t know why these videos are back on RUclips BUT I’m so glade they are thanks car guys
Why would they not be?
Great car always love the look of it especially the body line, 3 centre exhaust and the sound , Bianco Fuji is extremely rare for 458 ,infact i ve only ever seen 1 california T. with that colour..look stunning, but a Bianco fuji 458 looks another level, i would say Rosso Fuoco is nearly as stunning and as rare , thanks for the video The Carguys 👍👍
I own a Bianca Fuji 2011 California , amazing color in the sun
I just bought one, love it so far
Excellent - congrats
You are both hilarious! I love the video, thanks
Roger Kastoun Thanks, Roger
Loved the The Fast show reference.😊
Beautiful 458 you have there. Have spent quite a bit of time in 458's and agree on how it doesnt feel as "torquey" as figures may suggest, and the radio/audio? Ive never even turned it on before :D
Haha
Great video! I am trying to decide between a 355 and 458. I think both are still at a reasonable price point to hold their value or even increase (depending on mileage added). This will be my 4th Ferrari. If you had to choose only one, which would you pick? Assume Berlinetta for either car, gated shifter for the 355 (obviously). Thanks for all the great content!
It depends what you already have, Adam. The short answer is the 458, because it's the best modern Ferrari that balances everyday usability with the passion of the brand.
Just gorgeous, my favourite Ferrari ever 😍
