Yes , in Colombia my grandma always told me the best nutrients of a mango are actually in the skin. Some varieties are often better for skin eating as the skins are more thin compared to other thick skin mango varieties. My two favorite skin eating varieties are Lemon zest and Pina colada. Those have very thin skins that are tasty.
I was just watching this video because I moved to Colombia and they eat mango de azúcar skin and all. So I was interested in finding out if I should eat them like that.
Thanks for claryfing this, I'm from Poland and I thought that only I have strange problems with eating mango. This fruit is quite new in our markets, but the taste (and smell!) is awesome!
Rosa, Carrie, Coconut Cream are thin skinned ones that aren’t too bad that I’ve had before. Ex wife used to get itchy and break out in hives and rashes when I had fresh mangos in the house unfortunately. God Bless Paul, Shalom!
I ate mango skins in St. Kitts, in Central America off the trees -- no reactions whatsoever. Grocery bought ones, I'm a little more leary because of how they're handled/transported/stored, etc. so I tend NOT to eat the skins even tho I wash them. And just wow -- urushiol oil. It's interesting these trees are related to poison ivy/oak.
