  • McConnell tries to tamp down health concerns after second incident.Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) tried to tamp down concerns about his health on Thursday, a day after freezing while speaking in public for the second time in five weeks and again sparking questions about his physical condition and age.McConnell’s gaze deviated to the right, and he was able to grip his lectern without falling over or losing consciousness but was also unable to speak. “Those are really strongly suggestive of a partial seizure.”
Especially when considering McConnell’s first public spell in the Capitol, because he was able to come back a few minutes later to continue on as normal,.

Age limits, not term limits. Every time term limits are proposed, people want to put the limit at such a short time in office that a newly elected official just has time to learn to become effective in their job, then term limits out. We want and need effective representation. Give our senators, representatives, and judges enough time in office to do their jobs well for a good while. Let's take advantage of experience demonstrated to be applied productively and according to the sentiments of the electorate. Base the limit on age.

I am a good bit younger than McConnell and I’m a retired Judge. In my state there’s mandatory retirement age for people doing my type of work. I believe it would be beneficial if such a requirement was law at the federal level. As a Judge, my senility could effect only a very few people. A Senator, House Member federal Judge or Justice and President deals with much greater complexity and it can negatively effect the entire country.

I hate mandatory retirement ages. My husband's grandmother was very sharp until the very last month or so of her life. She died at age 94. I've known people in their 50's that weren't as sharp as she was at 93 and 94. That being said, however, both Mitch McConnell and Diane Feinstein should have retired long ago. They are no longer able to perform their job in a manner that would be considered appropriate and well. I like the idea of term limits, but on the other hand, when you prevent people from continuing to be elected, you loose a whole lot of wisdom and experience. I guess it boils down to I don't know the answer. But we do need something in place to ensure we don't have people holding this kind of power when they are so obviously unfit to hold that power without punishing those who still had the mental capacity to make intelligent decisions.

Her eyes would go blank and not blink, she would stare straight ahead and she would be unresponsive. If the seizure lasted more than five minutes, we were instructed to call 911. Sometimes by the time the paramedics got there it was over and she would be engaging with them and flirting with them! The seizures finally ended and they aren’t sure if it was medication or she just grew out of them.

I've been an EEG technologist for almost 40 years. This is correct. Long term monitoring with procedures like sleep deprivation and hyperventilation can raise the chances of capturing an episode. Scar tissue from the healing concussion will typically not show on an MRI, as it is at the cellular level. It is this scar tissue that begins to irritate the brain in a way that can cause seizures. I saw the video of Mitch, the first thing that came to mind was some kind of partial seizure secondary to the brain's healing from trauma.

Like Dr. Hansen said, they're EXTREMELY tough to pin down even with a longer EEG lasting 48+ hours, so McDonnell (and therefore we) will probably never get a solid answer. Which is frustrating because the lack of a diagnosis will give him a perfect chance to truthfully say doctors can't find anything wrong and publicly draw the conclusion that no diagnosis = no problem.

Monahan told the press that the team of doctors who evaluated McConnell and performed extensive tests on him (like MRI's of his brain, etc) are not sure what the cause of the problem (temporary freeze) was, because for temporary conditions like this, the cause is hard to know for sure once the patient returns to normal (or un-freezes in this case). @@leehawkins5795 yes McConnel is likely having petit mal seizures and I'm sure his physician, family and staff are monitoring him. And as much as I dislike his tactics and complacency with the direction of the GOP turn to non-governance, I wouldn't be so quick to label him disabled. That does a disservice to many people who endure epilepsy but with medication can lead normal productive lives. It's bad enough that the GOP dismisses anyone who is not 'productive' which includes retirees, disabled, chronically ill, or mentally disturbed and considers them a drain on society. The drive for power and money is ruining America.

He has also fallen TWICE in the past few months. That in itself is not terribly abnormal for someone who is 81, but up until those two falls he has been walking around the White House fine (or so they say). They then also said there have been times, behind the scenes, that he has used a wheel chair to get to and fro wherever he is going while at work. I do not like him as a politician, but I do not like to see any human being having such medical conditions and trying to hide it. Hiding just adds more stress to his brain. If someone is clearly medically unfit to drive but continue to do so despite being told to stop by relatives and/or friends then there's only one course of action open: drop them in it by reporting to the driving licence issuing authorities and also perhaps their insurance company.

While I would never recommend seeing a physician who graduated in the bottom 10% of their class, seeing one that graduated in the top 10% of their class does not necessarily guarantee they have the necessary critical thinking or deductive reasoning skills to practice the art of Medicine safely and successfully. I have seen an orthopedic surgeon who's patients were 90% likely to have a negative outcome While others were likely to have a 0.001% chance of a negative outcome. I've seen licensed practical nurses who were more knowledgeable and proficient than a four-year Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. In fact, I was once employed by a facility where a LPN acted as an administrative consultant and supervisor over registered nurses holding supervisory positions as well as the remaining nursing staff.
