In this video I compare a Rolex GMT Master II to a fake super clone of the same model type family. We dive into the inside of the watch too to see where the corners are really cut.
Disclaimer: Don't buy fake watches - when buying such a watch, you are supporting criminal enterprises. You're also lying to not only everyone around you, but also yourself. If you can't justify spending that much money on a real Rolex watch there are plenty of other watches I cover on this channel like Casio, Hamilton, Luminox, Tissot, Seiko, and many more that offer far better quality for less than $600.

Ways To Spot
1. The finishing level on the lugs and the bezel itself is not at the same level. They look like rapid and rushed brushings rather than beveling that's been carefully considered for its aesthetics.
2. The rehaut with the engraved above the dial is too far to the right and doesn't align properly and the cut out words are too wide and roughly cut (though the last part is hard to notice without a loupe and the real Rolex nearby.
3. The crown wobbles as you try to turn it. I'm not sure what exactly they got wrong on the tolerances here. Granted, I've had the same feeling on vintage Rolex's, so it's not entirely uncommon, but it does raise some red flags.
4. The movement feels gritty when turned. Granted, it feels quite close to the real rolex, but just not quite there. The extra feeling of sand in the movement is subtle, but there. When you overwind the watch, it also has a clicking feeling, as if the mainspring is not wanting to slip inside the barrel or as though the mainspring barrel outer wall wasn't oiled well enough to allow the mainspring to slip. This function of slipping is in all automatic watches and requires the proper lubrication to avoid damaging the mainspring.
5. The bezel feeling is not there. Originally, the watch was very gritty to turn and didn't feel right at all, but it's worn down. The fake now is still off and still has some feeling of metal on metal resistance, while the real Rolex feels very smooth and perfect.
6. Inside the watch, the balance wheel is not a free sprung balance, the caliber inside is incorrect for the reference this is trying to clone, and it is filled with hairs, dust, and marring on the bridges and screw heads. Overall the inside is cobbled together and functions, but just barely.
7. The date wheel has text that is too bold compared to the real Rolex.

They weren't until Japan mastered the quartz movement and started mass production of wristwatches, so the European brands moved up the status ladder. Same thing with German cars.
I am a watchmaker here in the UK and I've been paid good sums of money to put genuine balance bridges on fake watches to make them look no different to reps, as well as rehaut polishing, repolishing movements, replacing plates etc on movements to make them look more real, it's fascinating.

yeah sure you can make it more believable but you cant make the rest of the finish on the movement or the rest of the watch be perfect. If you're spending so much to make a fake look real like even using some genuine parts then you really need to start questioning what you're doing because at the end of the day, it's still a fake.

I'm slowly buying used genuine parts and putting them in like tge dial, hands, crown, bezel. Eventually make my way to the bracelet and movment. Just takes time . Its a project for me

The difference between a real and a fake watch is the person wearing it, yes if you see did caprio using a fake rolex, it automatically becomes real for the majority of people.

I have been wearing fakes for a number of years on a daily basis now. I bought two genuine rolex here in the UK and unfortunately it just isn’t safe to wear them in public, people have been stabbed for their watches. Mine sit in a safety deposit box at a bank, and I wear the fakes. If I get stopped for my watch I will simply hand over the fake and hopefully not become a victim or statistic!

The Oyster and the easy tell is @ 1:12. Rolex will always line it's letters to the minute marks on the inner ring. You can see the Jubilee version Rolex does not line up such.
4:25 loosening and tightening the screws does not change the weight. After all, the weight is still the same. What it changes is the moment of inertia, which alters the rate at which the balance spins.

I wonder if anyone has ever got a job in a watch retailer, purchased a few superclones for the really high-end ones, then swapped them and left a few months later. On the event that someone eventually found out, finding the CCTV evidence would be impossible.

They both took craftsmanship and prestige. The mistakes on the fake can be fixed for 100$. That still leave a 10k difference. Your paying specifically for the name Rolex because fakes are 95% spot on. And that last 5% isn’t work 10k

For $600 odd the clones are absolutely amazing. I know, I have the Starbucks Sub and am totally knocked out by how good it is. Of course the fakers cannot copy the engraving because they have no idea what Rolex exactly do and what machines they have but that's just splitting hairs. I bought mine because I was fed up wasting years asking ADs if I could beg them to let me buy a real one.
The irony is that recently I went through the whole process again with some emails to ADs asking if I could perform a sex act on them to get a real Rolex expecting to be rebuffed or ignored and then my phone rang. It was an AD who very nicely told me that she can get me what I want if I could visit their store. I have arranged a visit for two weeks time so will be excited to see what she says. I have no previous relationship with them so maybe stock is coming in faster and they know they need new customers.
Today's high end replicas are almost impossible to tell from the outside. In fact, in Asia, no one would believe you are wearing the real thing because there are so many clones out there.
So that means it's pretty safe to walk around with a true Rolex there? 😀
even the Chinese movements can run at 0-1 spd as the real deal. So why spend so much for the real deal if all you want is a great watch? Some today do not have the funds we have as well. Let them enjoy the design and move on, I say.
@@clark3830 I couldn't agree more. There is a difference between fakes and replicas. Fakes are cheaply made with a logo. Replicas are 1 to 1 copy of a genuine. It's like a same product being made by different manufacturer. Don't get me wrong. I love genuine watches' quality and craftmanship but they are just way overpriced.

I got it from the bezel as he mentioned, plus where the color change takes place on the 18 and 6. Then really knew when I saw the rehaut misalignment on the same one.
Guessed it was the Jubilee but it was just the feeling something was off, it’s scary how much close up attention it takes. Always compare wearing a fake Rolex to wearing a wig
I think it's the glare that make you feel that way.. I also thought one of them looked cheaper and after some thinking i realised it was the anti-reflective coating being better on one of them..

I service and repair these replicas all the time. Cleaning the movement and using quality oil/grease makes a huge difference in the feel of winding and setting. Plus, they keep accurate time. The one you have is of good quality but there are better ones that are in the $1200 range which would be considered a super clone. You should get one of those and do the comparison.

Correct, I trade watches and have handled a number of super clone pepsi and gmt2s. Without a trained watchmakers eye and tools u won't be able to tell the difference. Especially between the replicas from Clean factory with 3135 movement. That only begs a question whether the cost of a 10k watch is justified.

I suppose it begs the question of are rolex pieces artwork/jewelry or tools. There are many who can copy famous paintings of Rembrandt, Picasso, Monet... etc. But you still will end up with a copy. However, if we want to classify rolex as objects of function (tools), than ya, doesn't make any sense to pay 10k when 1k can do it.

The offline rehaut on the jubilee was a more obvious tell. But an offline rehaut can happen on a gen too.
Bought dozens of high-end watches online from private sellers. Never had any issues with authenticity or fraud. People in Switzerland are just extremely honest. 😅
I didn't think I would spot it however a thing that made me spot it was the offset of the ROLEX laser markings inside of the dial as well as the weird finish on the actual steel.

@WristSwap There are "frankenclones" that use genuine parts. Like the dial, hands, bezel insert or entire bezel, crystal, balance wheel. The movements are taken apart and finished down much better. You'll pay a couple thousand for one, obviously due to the genuine parts. But without something like a microscope you are not going to tell the difference. That's the scary part about buying second hand. There are no "tells" left. My genuine 116610LN isn't perfect either. The rehaut engraving is not perfectly centered and the bezel does not stop perfectly at 12 o'clock. Rolex has their own set of tolerance deviations that they consider acceptable. That being said I have an $800 CF/VSF mash up replica of a 126610LN that I wear when traveling. The guy that services all of my watches gave it a good servicing when I received it. Even he was impressed with the quality, fit and finish while knowing it was fake. Funny enough the cloned movement keeps time better than my genuine.

But there are good reasons to buy a fake as well. If I ever got a fake, I would tell others it's a fake. I'm not rich, so I would never pretend I am rich. The only way I would get a real Rolex is if I had top 2% net worth or more. If you don't have at least $2 million of DISPOSABLE income, why would you want to buy a watch that cost $20K? Even a bad employee of an Authrorized dealer can swap out the movement and give you a fake. So in my humble opinion, in order to be able to AFFORD a real Rolex, you have to have enough money to where even if someone robbed you or swapped out your movement....that you wouldn't care. I know many will disagree, but that's what I think. In the meantime, a $300 Seiko is probably more than I will ever need.

What gave the fake away for me was the misalignment of the ROLEX letters with the minute indices at 1:15. Notice how they are perfectly aligned and finished at 1:13
Same for me. I noticed the misalignment too, therefore I knew the jubilee was the fake.
I bought a Rolex 126610 clone, in Thailand, just to see how it compares. Despite the details you are mentioning, it is scary close to the real thing, even Water proof 300 but it runs 20 seconds fast a day but could be regulated. I use to be able to pick out a fake from across the room but with this one on someone's wrist, there is no way to tell for sure without holding it and using a loop. They even gave me a card of authentic with it that is also looks scare close to legit. I terrified to see how good they are going to get in five years. Moral of the story is don't buy a Rolex without a third party verification because it's getting easier to get duked on a fake Rolex when you are thinking of buying the real one on the grey market.
if its that close then it makes sense to just buy a fake. Take the extra money and invest it elsewhere. Rolex's are way overpriced anyways
Just buy the reps. You get the real rep while you can get duped trying to get the real one plus rolex ad is an asshole. They just wanna sell to scalpers trying to hoard to get that middlemen money
i wouldnt trust a clones water proof rating. Not more to wash your hands with. They will tell you themselves not to submerge them. 20 seconds a day sounds like a bad clone to be honest. My datejust rep is +/- 7 seconds. And my daytona rep runs +/- 12 s.

You are correct it was a celebration of a career milestone.Serviced and appraised several times, no purchase regret. It has appreciated 400% and is the only jewelry I wear (not even a wedding ring for me because I work with power tools).

My favorite thing to do with clones that you cannot do with genuine, is make them one of a kind custom pieces of art. The awesome part about clones is you can take dials that don't go with stainless steel and bezels that are only on precious metal models or bracelet swaps, painting hands, all kinds of mods where as doing so to your genuine will devalue it.

All i have to do is look at the crystal and rehaut engraving. Takes 20 secs for me. If its a franken watch i might have to go a bit deeper. But its pretty easy once you know.

Really, everyone can find $600, not true of $10k+, that's a whole chunk of money.
Currently in Turkey and out of pure interest hunted around for the not so illusive “Super Clone” watches. Lucky enough to have a couple of real mid range watches (£5-£8k) and so asked to see the model I own and was blown away how accurate they are. As most say it was only the mechanicals / winding of the movement that gave it away. But stood up to the eye inspection. They were “asking” €1,400 and didn’t negotiate as not interested but felt that was going to be the price. For something that could stop working anytime you’d be better saving another €600-€800 and buying a Tudor or similar. The shop and range of watches they had was on par with Geneva airport or high end Jewelers which I suppose is intended to give you the feeling of purchasing a quality item. Bottom line is as in the review final comments. You will fool others, no doubt, but you want fool yourself into that feeling you’ve “earned” it and the reward that comes with it.
No doubt the same watch they were asking €1400 for would be half the cost or less when purchased from China (NOT from “swissarex” or whatever scam site the bots are promoting at the moment)

If you have the Pepsi, the easiest way to find out if it’s genuine is to light the bezel with a UV lamp … if the bezel turns completely red… you got the genuine 👌🏻 that’s what amazes me for the Pepsi bezel

One trusted dealer has the "best edition" available for $600 and another has the "best edition" listed at $1000. Does anyone know if this is the same watch just being offered at different price points, or are there actually sub-levels of superclones? Any advice or info appreciated.

It's such a fascinating topic especially with the Rolex brand. I mean the physical object almost takes second place to everything else that is attached to it. That's a luxury manufacturers business model. And then people make a business out of copying that physical object. And other people try to convince themselves that the faked physical object is enough and that it's as good as the real thing because it's only a watch.

The question is how good the clone is for the money. I think that with regularly services and good treatment this could easily last for 20-30 years. And that feeling you mentioned is just a ego boost.
Apart from the problem that no reputable watchmaker would ever service a fake watch, the problem is simply that they took a movement apart to rebuild it to replicate an other movement. The parts, even if assembled in an equal matter, are not built for the design / purpose of the movement. You would also need to refinish a lot of the parts because the whole concept of a watch is friction based and the finishing you saw here would just hinder that. You could make it run for years but for the amount of hassle, why not just buy a seiko or citizen and have that for 20 years? Why buy the replica of something that is redundant in the first place other than to be a luxury good.
@@Arseization I knew a dude that got a watch from his Dad. Turned out to be a fake. He brought it in to get serviced and that is how he found out. He is still getting it serviced because it was his fathers and his Dad wore it all the time. I dont think they care as long as you are paying my good person.

Why people dont buy cheaper watches or micro brands that have insane value for money, and if they really want the rolex looks there are tons of real watch brands that makes homages. But no, and its simple, people try to lie for themselves and justify buying a replica "its good value for money, real product is overpriced!!"but they just want it because it is rolex with all its demand, status, recognition that comes with it.
I bought my fake 5 years ago it is insane, still working Im going to pools, saunas, gym watch is still working perfectly. The best part is I never got busted even tho my friends were original watches they never find out that mine is fake to this day.

You nailed it with the "amplification" statement. I have an authentic 16710 and was considering selling and getting a 136660. I worked really hard to buy that gmt so I wanted to make sure I was making the right choice before selling. So I got a "super clone" deepsea to live with it for a while. It is a nice watch but it's not the same. In the end I kept the GMT. I really like the deepsea and it looks fine on my larger wrist but I don't want to give up my GMT yet and I can't justify 2 watches with cost.

The only replica watches in comparison videos are the low to mid ones, the chances that there has not been a steady and controlled supply of perfect replicas entering the gray market for quite some time, seems likely to be wishful thinking.
I think Rolex has begun trying to weed them out with the new certified pre-owned program.

I'd say since almost no one would know what it was or has ever seen an actual one no one will ever know. If your lifestyle lines up for RM then no one will question it. The tell on those is you don't have the money for it.

I recently saw something on RUclips where a watch collector bought a super clone of watches that he actually owned the real model of, his reasoning was that he didn’t worry about theft or damage. Interesting perspective, still don’t think it’d be for me.
To me, clones are about posing, pretending to the world that you can afford something you can’t. That just screams insecurity. There are a lot of great watches available under$1K, with lots of brand history and wonderful movements, far better to buy one of those and celebrate it.
i can afford just about any watch in the world. But i prefer to invest my money in the market and other high interest areas rather then a watch.. I am seriously considering buying a clone, just because i do like the looks of a few high end watches out there. Im just struggling with the fact of feeling like a poser 😂
If your real secure and money wise then youd buy a super clone and invest your money in some business. If rolex is your business then youd get the real ones and if you have so much extra then get the real ones. I mean if your 458ferrari rich get the reps 😂 if your bugatti chiron rich then youd get real rolex plus some ap and pateks. But its never about faking people around you bec who does that? 😂

I continue to avoid gen for rep. My AD literally wont take my money and i refuse to pay 17k for an 11k watch.. so screw em, i buy a super clone (top tip vsf make the best sub clones currently) and i can enjoy the look of the watch and if it gets robbed, i get the last laugh

The inside side wall where rolex is engraved gave it away for me it looks more ruff than the other one and the lettering is off as well

I knew personally the fake was the Jubilee bracelet watch because the moment you showed the rehaut with the ROLEX lettering off centre from the markers I put my house on it being the moody one. They don’t seem at the moment to be able to perfect that from what I’ve seen of replicas.
I've seen some are more accurate than this, but the engraving quality is still not the same
There are cheaper fakes where the rehaut on the inner bezel is almost indistinguishable, but lacking in some other areas.
The different factories have their different priorities, the best super clones come from the middle men who combine the different parts
This could be just because the person who assembled the watch was careless to allign the rehaut to the dial marking or the dial is not properly aligned to the movement. I'm no expert but I believe if the movement screws get loose and the the movement gets slightly rotated, both may align.

Yep. The first three things I always check is the rehaut alignment, the date wheel alignment, the bezel insert paint.

The other way to tell for the purposes of this video is that the crown in between Swiss and made is likely on the fake because you bought it recently for this video vs. the 116710 that has likely been in your collection for a while
So I'm guessing this isn't a VS or Clean factory clone? B/c the VS and esp. the Clean should be closer than that on the inside, almost indistinguishable. But those should run closer to $1500 USD. Anyway, just give them some more time. They're making the fakes better and better every day. Hard to part with over ten Gs when you can get 99.9999% the same thing for a tenth of that.

I’m in the military right now and I need rugged watches that can withstand to any harsh conditions and locations that we are going through plus they are very affordable.
I was able to pick it out from the small details. That aside, I agree. When you buy one of these fakes no matter how good it is, even if you fool others you know you are always lying to yourself. You will never have the same feeling, never be able to sell, trade or pass it down. If you cannot afford the real thing (new or pre owned) right now, buy something cheaper that is real, there are tons of fantastic watches out there, until you can. Make it your goal and when you achieve it you will feel incredible that you were able to reach that goal, you will be proud of it and yourself every time you look at it, wear it or show it off.

When you buy a great watch like a Rolex or a Patek, it's your way of telling others, "I have more money than you probably do." That's why I don't own a fake. Actually, I don't own a real Rolex either. Why? Because I am not rich so there is no need for me to pretend I'm rich.

@Dope RDO Why wear a fake? You will always know it's not the real deal. If you can't afford it then buy a Hamilton or Longines watch. Watches that have heritage and history behind them are the way to go.
