Jeep Wrangler TJ P0171 P0174: How to replace the IAC and MAP sensor

- I have been fighting with some idle and throttle problems on my 2005 Jeep Wrangler TJ for a while now. They've finally resulting in repeatable P0171 and P0174 codes, so I'm troubleshooting those. The most common answers I've found are the MAP sensor and the IAC (Idle air controller) which both live on the throttle body of the 05 wrangler.
So after a few other attempts to fix this with some maintenance that I was overdue for anyway.. I;m replacing those two items to see if it helps out. So far, it seems like it has.

Update: Same codes hit me again this past weekend. P0171, and p0174. Not nearly as bad as my initial issue (where the jeep wouldnt run and left me on the side of the road) but the codes are back none-the-less. I am going to try replacing the injectors next.
Thank you so much! Been hunting for the tip on how to get the MAP sensor electrical tab off, worked!!
glad i could help!
My 02' TJ is experiencing the same thing - going to try these things and see. Mine only runs rough after the engine is warm (210F) no CELs but it has a very noticeable lower idle when warm vs a cold start so I'm thinking the same things along with the possibility of bad upstream 02 sensors since they control the A/F mixture.
Check the opda and the cam/crank sync
Can you provide a quick update in the comments? I'm having similar issues. Thank you!
I dont drive the jeep daily, so it's tough to claim complete victory, but the problem has not resurfaced yet. I have taken it on a few short trips, before replacing these sensors that would be enough to trigger the CEL and make it run odd. So far that has not happened.
@@SWBCrawler Thank you. The TJ is now in the hands of my nephew but he won't be home to work on it until June '23 so I'll post an update of my own in a few months.
@@halewilson awesome. good luck!
When it acts up again take a cold wet rag & cover your computer on passenger side firewall for 2-3 minutes then try starting IT. LMK

Its possible that this is a computer issue, but I have not replaced that yet. I also ended up replacing the fuel injectors. both that, and the replaced sensors in this video helped, but didnt get rid of the problem completely. It ended up being my fuel pump! It was producing 10psi too little. I replaced that with a bosch fuel pump, and re-tested, its been spot on since. No more lean errors.
@@SWBCrawler Glad to hear you resolved the issue. Happy Holidays. Keep Up The Great Work
