Man, that shot at the end where he takes a good look around and soaks it all in, that’s everything. Congrats, Drew!!
And he’s on a 1st place team atm
Hope he becomes a regular in the MLB for the coming years.
Yankees fan.
He's so young too lol I know for baseball he's "old" but from my point a view he's a young man having fun living out his dream
Reminds me of Vin Scully's call of Koufax's perfect game.
He was checking outfielder positions to prepare to score from second, but yeah it's pretty cool.
He is now a .333 hitter with a .833 OPS, a Double and 1 RBI in 6 plate appearances, collected a MLB salary during those days that could be more money than what he gets in a complete season in MiLB, a week he will never forget, God bless you Drew !!!
He was sent back to Double-A Altoona this morning.
@@dalethelander3781 Yeah, we know that, but nothing can take away from him the 1-derful week he's lived.
He didnt make any extra money for that lol, you get paid whats in your contract.
@@keithzimpelman1483 he did
@@dalethelander3781 yeah but thats cause they dont wanna pay him MLB money😅... he will be back i feel
So nice to see someone who has worked so hard get a chance to show what they can do. What an amazing story for all to enjoy!!
He's had 13 years to show what he could do....
@@BoKnowsZombies And most people would retire or give up by then but he kept working lol
How many major league hits do you have?
@@BoKnowsZombies Don't be like that, dude. This guy now has two major league hits AND two RBIs. Appreciate the fact that someone, a person very unlikely, accomplished something most will never have the opportunity to do.
@BoKnowsZombies actually he never has been given a chance. Seen guys hit crazy in minors and suck in majors and vice versa
This is why I love baseball. No other sport would a 30 year old rookie get so much respect and cheers.
And not just from Pirates fans! I'm diehard Cardinals fan rooting for him!
@@gina774Angels fan. Don’t have much to root for but I rooting for Drew.
Love seeing the entire Pirates dugout on the railing anticipating every pitch and reacting like it's the playoffs. Terrific moment.
I bet that more than 1 of his team mates have played with him in the minors such a great movie lol
Congrats Drew, you are a MLB player and seem like a great guy. So proud of you and your family!
He's back in the minors as of this morning.
@@dalethelander3781 So sad, I thought that might happen. Maybe they will bring him back up before he quits. I understand that they don't get paid much in the minors.
The beauty of baseball.
My man got halfway to the cycle!
A career cycle would still be a huge accomplishment, so hopefully he gets some more ABs
@@MrCveedub he’s going back to AA
@@yoda9256 Why is that?
@@IzNebula cause they don’t need him
@@IzNebula It's true. He's been sent down to the Double-A Altoona Curve.
For any player, at any level, who has, at some point, not legged out a ground ball - watch this man! He is the essence of effort and perseverance. Drew Maggi you are a true hero! ✊
"hero"? come on man
Doesn't matter if his time in the majors is brief...the guy made it ! He will always be a part of that pro baseball fraternity. Well done !
These moments are what make baseball magical.
Very classy of the Nats to immediately give the ball to the Pirates after the hit and play.
Not really, it’s standard procedure. Would have been an outrage if they didn’t
It's just the way it's done. For everyone, with any milestone
that's done for every player.
It may be SOP, but it is still neat when an accomplishment is recognized by the opposition. In contrast, I have seen far too many basketball accomplishments "celebrated" by a technical foul.
You can also see the umo pointing and directing the player to throw it to the dug out
Big Drew (thats what I called him) was a prime time player for me during my stint with the Altoona curve in MLB the show.
Made me teary-eyed for real. It’s amazing how a man I only knew about 5 days ago can evoke such emotion.
Pirates sent him back down this morning.
@@dalethelander3781 In his week in the majors, he hit 2 for 3, and had an RBI. The Pirates should have left him in the majors, just to let it play out. The Pirates are 8-2 in their last 10 games. Having Maggi on the bench is good karma for the team, and an inspiration for all those major leaguers who fail to give 100% on every play.
@@billbuffington3037 The Pirates stunk up the league the last two seasons. (Well, them and the Reds.) What happened? They spend some money in the off-season?
Keep Maggi as a bench coach or something. We need him in the dugout as an inspiration!
OK let's pump the brakes, the man's not a mascot.
He isn't a charity case, and if you're a mlb player and you have a hard time finding inspiration and motivation, then I'm not sure how u made it that far
@Zach why not?
@Zach I'd say he's even more inspirational than a mascot
@@johndavies5582 says someone who will never play in the mlb
I am in tears, of joy. Life is really hard, but sometimes a good man gets a break. OMG how this boy toiled. For his dream. May God bless you Drew Maggi. Don't change a thing. This is the good news we have been waiting for.
So inspiring seeing an athlete never abandon his dream. You got my support Maggi, and the support of every Puerto Rican. 🇵🇷🇮🇹
This is incredible gentlemen. This guy is an inspiration to everyone to never give up on our dreams. It doesn't matter which team you're a fan of, we're here as one to watch a champion!
As a diehard Cubs fan, this is increidble to see. I am actually proud of the pirates as a whole. I got family is Pittsburgh and they have been waiting for a while for the bucs young core to blossom. And boy have they. They look like a true contender this year. Congrats to all of the Pirates fans.
Javy Baez punking their first baseman...priceless.
This is what sports is all about: hard work, determination, perseverance and grit. Way to go, Drew.
13 years in the minors and he of course scores the 13th run in the game.
He didn't score the 13th run. He drove the 13th run in. In baseball there called, RBI's-runs batted in.
MLB scripted?
Poetry
Can someone explain to me why he’s been in the minors for that long
@@claytonredman7979what is there to explain? Does everyone make the majors??
The Pirates are such a fun team to watch this year. Love the support from the bench 🥲
dude made the pinnacle of the sport....even if it was only as a courtesy, good for him. Professional baseball is brutal man...absolutely brutal. There are any number of reasons why this dude never developed, or got developed. its nice to see him soak it all in.
How can you not love baseball..... with stories like these.❤❤
Maggical!
He did something many of us only dreamed of as kids! Great job! 👍
Most awesome single in the whole 2023 season.
A true baseball dream come true story. Good job Maggi!
I love hearing the crowd cheering for him.
here is the ball, here is the man...😢 so touched and moved. cheers bro!!!
That smile on his face after his first major league hit. Priceless!
Absolutely love to see these moments you work your old life to get to this moment and the story is just as great.
He has been a good player his entire life. Little league, Brophy Prep, ASU. Dude is solid
Absolutely love this.
Just saw this, and I haven't stopped smiling yet. Great job, "kid"!!
I am fan of someone making it after Minor leagues and something good coming out of it !
I'm a Red Sox fan, but saw his call up video and have been following since. What a great story, I'm so happy for this guy I didn't know until last week. Pirates got something special going right now.
From a Phillies fan congratulations Maggi whole league rooting for you!
Cubs fan here. I know Maggi didn't start because the Pirates are in first place. It worked out going 2-2 but would have like to see him play from the 5th inning or earlier since the game was won for the Pirates. Looks like a good hitter. Awesome!
So happy for the guy. This is the American dream right here.
And it's even better because you see how much his teammates are pulling for the guy. Maggi must be a good guy in the clubhouse.
These are the type of moments every fan of baseball, no matter who you cheer for, love to see. Congratulations Drew!
Wow... my name is Ed Baker. I am 44 years old and been a Pirates fan for almost all of that. Yeah. I have had a really tough life. But anyway, this brought me to tears of joy. I cry a lot. Even gum commercials. Remember those Wrigley or Big Red, Juicy Fruit ones... anyway, I am so happy for Drew Maggi. Happy for this fun Pirates team. Thankful to have survived the two ambulance rides I recently had to take. I have been referred now to a Gastroenterologist and hope my consultation next month leads to some treatment so I can watch more special moments like this. - Ed Baker, Portland, Oregon (worst city in America these years... very sad...) I ran for President in 2016 and Portland City Council in 2022. I have no intention to run for Dog Catcher.
AI-generated comment? wtf is this lol
I hope you'll do better if this is real Ed, I really do.
I can only imagine what he was feeling! Something you have been waiting for your entire baseball career. I think it had to be a very surreal experience. All that time practicing and learning and training. Watching other guys make it up. Then…boom…you’re here too!
The fans and his teammates were so invested this is awesome
Thrilled for this dude. Glad he's getting this opportunity.
The Gift of the Maggi making the most of his time on the MLB roster. 🥲
Dude that was a solid at bat. Fuckin experience goes a long ass way.
i'm glad drew got not only two hits but also an rbi even if he never gets back up to the bigs he now has some career highlights to tell his grand kids about. congrats drew
Made me tear up. Got the waterworks going this morning now.. I love stuff like this, he worked his entire career to get to this point and that’s gotta be an amazing feeling. 😢 love baseball man
This was so sick to watch. Loved how Washington tossed it over to the Pitt dugout so he could have it. Baseball still delivers some of the most magic moments.
Love it man such a good story of perseverance
This is so cool in so many ways.
My wife was jealous bc she said she’s never seen me cry in 12 years but I got a little teary eyed watching this.
I'm not a pirate fan but I am a fan of baseball, and this is a story about someone who never stopped playing or dreaming about making to the big leagues, congrats on your commitment to baseball
Proud of you bud. Never give up.
That was the moment that man said to himself, “I belong here!” Congrats and good work!
This is one of the coolest things I’ve seen in major league baseball in a long time
Tears of happiness for this man!
I was there - most electric small crowd I’ve ever seen!!!
I absoultely love this. Go Maggi!
People like Drew are vital to the MLB system and severely overlooked. Long term minor league players greatly assist in helping to build and develop talent. Think of all the young talent that played with and against Drew, and all the direct and indirect lessons he taught those players as they moved up, and he stayed back. It’s a butterfly effect that, frankly, the MLB needs to consider when they negotiate salaries for these minor league vets.
I know this story will be on big screen sooner or later 👍
And the major league money means he can afford his daughters heart surgery😂 cmon man let's chill out a little bit
Zach I like you......let's simmer down dude wasn't a 34 year old science teacher who became a big leauge pitcher or something.....if anything it was a PR thing for pirates....dudes bat didn't earn him a spot it was a reward for doing his job the right way and they had an opening to cover a spot and would not have to burn a prospects option. Don't get me wrong good for him but not a movie that's a lil crazy.....if the dude turned in to leauge mvp then that's another thing
@@mkailov13 it is a movie bull Durham I'm perrty sure it's Kevin Costner exact character career minior leauger who had a.cup of coffee in the show

Way to go Drew! What a great feeling!
What a wonderful moment for Drew. I'm so happy to have had the opportunity to watch it happen from here in MKE. Well done Drew! Lets Go Bucs!
I absolutely love his reaction. That's real. Beautiful
Remind me of a player named Nick Capra. He spent 17 years in the minors. Played only a few games in the Majors. Nothing extraordinary. He got on base and scored runs. Good base runnner. Stole bases. Little power. Hit around .275 and got on base close to .380. Stats are from mostly Triple A. A hustle player.
Ha! Capra. Former Texas Rangers prospect back in the '80s. Italian too. lol. Smaller guy. Fast runner and fielder, not much power at the bat. Always did well in spring training, but sent down to AAA. called up every other year during September to the big leagues (Rangers and Royals). Def a hustle player I recall.
these are the moments that make baseball the greatest game.
His teammates and the fans!! Absolutely beautiful to see. Great at bat too.
I really hope they keep him around. His ball vision is very good, and I’m pretty sure he has had contact in every AB. Love to see it
Some great cuts. Wish him well. Well deserved promotion.
He was demoted this morning. Back to the Double-A Altoona Curve.
A Maggi-cal moment! ❤🎉🎉🎉🎉

Beautiful. Just beautiful. Congrats!!!!
How can you not love this game for moments like that.
Congratulations on making your dream come true. Your hard work and perseverance paid off. What a story
Man that's awesome. That must have felt so good.
Every time he plays now I get so anxious and nervous and like excited to see if he gets a home run

Keep up the good work !! He must be a nice guy, cause everyone is rooting for him. Congratulations
So many people don’t understand the grind to make it. What all HAS to go your way, props to him for sticking it out! Making it 13 years is saying something.
Always nice to see:) Congratulations man.
