This is the biggest mistakes for Atem to using Orichalcos seal in his duel with Rafael, knowing that it's the only way to win the duel against Rafael, which has a pure soul without darkness. Unfortunately, Atem fell into darkness in his heart and at the end, he loses his duel. As a result, Yugi's soul is taken instead.
he did he tricked him into playing that card he put him in a position were playing that card was the only option or he would loose. Dude was the only person to beat yugi at his own game and he would have shredded Kiba in a duel.

I'm honestly surprised Dan Green did not get this best voice acting performance award for this super interesting Seal of Orichalcos storyline. Although it looks out of character that Pharoah would do these such darkest crimes he's ever committed, however, it's pretty cool to see Pharoah to first time ever showing off his darkness side as if he might possibly turn out to be an "evil Pharoah" after all as the rumors point out, but then realized his errors by the time it's too late, and he even first few times showed off his tears of despair. It's also great to see him become his own person for awhile (other than to keep hiding behind someone else's vessel) by developing emotion, voicing his inner thoughts, conquering his own darkness through depressing state, owning up his fatal mistake that costed Yugi's soul, show more of his vulnerability side, and to develop his resolve.
Sad fact is after he activated the orichalcos, he activated “Hand Control” which was already in his hand so he never needed the orichalcos to turn the duel around but that card blinded him

The stone wasn’t the sole purpose of why he played it. yes it was a factor, but the truth is that the pharaoh craved victory and power. Atem showed a level of ruthlessness to win that would have made Seth Kaiba impressed. This decision was even crazier than Kaiba threatening suicide even though Kaiba knew Yugi well enough to know he would commit to saving Mokuba in his face-off with Pegasus.
For anyone saying he could have just not played the card, or any reason he could have won the duel, Yugi CLEARLY stated that the card is affecting Yami's mind before he even played it! Yugi is INSIDE his mind; he KNOWS what's going on in there! PLEASE, PAY ATTENTION, PEOPLE!!!
He only says that in the dub. In the original japanese, he just says that Raphael is waiting for it to happen. Infact, this actually means the opposite of this dialogue. The Orichalcos' influence is seemingly not even strong enough for Yugi to note(or potentially even notice), so Yami could have easily denied it if he really wanted to.
The best sensible thing to do once yami got the card he could of ripped the evil card while his opponent wasn’t looking at least then he wouldn’t of played it and yugi wouldn’t of been mad at him

My friends hated when i used the seal and used a earthbound immortal with the field protection spell card and a card that made 1 monster immune to the effects of trap spells and monster effects equip that to my earthbound immortal with the seal it was over quickly
This is one episode that really broke my heart as a kid and even as a grown-up today I absolutely will not watch this episode just because it broke my heart so much to see the pharaoh give into his anger
If Yami Set The Seal (faced down) on the turn before he played Card of Sanctity, his 6th card would've been Catapult Turtle when the latter is played. Then he activates The Seal and does the same play in the actual game, this is what his play would be... Plays Hand Control then chooses Necromancy and summons 4 random Monsters Gazelle, Berfomet, Kuribabylon, Big Shield Gardna Sacrifices Gazelle and Berfomet for Dark Magician Sacrifices Big Shield Gardna for Catapult Turtle All Monsters will then be boosted (save for Kuribabylon since it was Special Summoned) DM (2500 -> 3000/2100) DMG (2000 -> 2500/1700) CT (1000 -> 1500/2000) Sacrifices Dark Magician Rafael 3000 -> 1500 DMG's effect activates, raising her ATK by 300 since DM was sent to the Graveyard. (2500 -> 2800/1700) Sacrifices DMG Rafael 1500 -> 100 Then finally sacrificing CT Rafael 100 -> 0 This would win Yugi the Duel
This was a wild twist to the show. All of a sudden the stakes in a card game became very very real. All of a sudden you lose and you lose your soul... That was crazy.
The Dartz arc was one of my favorite all time of all arcs counting Dragonball & OPM arcs I've seen....I really loved that they exposed Yami weaknesses and he lost fair and square. I was shocked that Saturday that He actually lost but loved it because it was DIFFERENT. I also like how they made Kaiba lose as well. Overall great arc even though it was filler....the side characters also had cool decks!
What will happen if Kaiba were in Pharaoh's position? Would he fall for Rachael's trick, get brainwashed, and have his own dark side exposed, or will he resist using the evil card?
YUGI: Pharaoh, no matter what, you mustn't use that card! It takes people's souls! YAMI: Don't worry, Yugi. There's absolutely no reason to even use it. YUGI: That's right. There are no stakes involved in this Duel. Even if you lost this card game, nothing would change at all. YAMI: Wait, what's that now? I could lose? YUGI: Well yeah, I mean your dragon Timaeus is frozen in place and you really don't have that many Life Points left. But again, there's literally nothing at stake here and a single loss wouldn't really hurt-- YAMI: Curse you, Rafael! You've given me no choice! YUGI: Wait, what? YAMI: I have to activate The Seal of Orichalcos! YUGI: No! No, you don't! YAMI: Too late, it's activated! I hope you're happy, Rafael! The guy who totally made me do this against my will!

@@ajarofpickles2826 exactly... if you watch the last episode "yugi vs other yugi" he says himself it's about pride.
@@ajarofpickles2826 I honestly just think having the card in your deck corrupts you. Yami wasn't himself when he played it, which is why he regretted it instantly. He didn't even know why he played it 😢
This is the biggest mistakes for Atem to using Orichalcos seal in his duel with Rafael, knowing that it's the only way to win the duel against Rafael, which has a pure soul without darkness. Unfortunately, Atem fell into darkness in his heart and at the end, he loses his duel. As a result, Yugi's soul is taken instead.
he had to play that card he had no choice.
@@williamjones7589
um
why?
there were no stakes in this duel
he did he tricked him into playing that card he put him in a position were playing that card was the only option or he would loose. Dude was the only person to beat yugi at his own game and he would have shredded Kiba in a duel.
@@williamjones7589 still doesn’t mean there were any stakes in the duel to begin with
@@shade08538 Dartz could still take his soul for losing it was dudes plan from the beginning to make him have to play that card.
My favourite scene this is of the whole series ! Yami yugi is a badass when he plays this card !!!
he was bad... and an ass..... but no, he was not badass
i like how he Screams out after summoning The Card Of Orichalcos making look eve more Bad AS
@@alexanderzack3720 he called the Dark Magician useless. LOL!
This is a core memory for everyone that watched it live. I remember watching it and it ended off a cliffhanger and I walked my brother up yelling that Yugi played the seal, my brother had no concept of the importance I think but he was excited I was excited
Raphael was special... Amongst his peers he was the one that never played his Orichalcos and made Atem played it instead.
1:00 when you eat more than one Flintstones Vitamin as a kid.
Lol
😂😂😂😂
"You're a disgrace to the game Yugi"
He plays the seal and the dragon says:"I will commit yesnt lived now"
My favorite arc in yugioh history. So damn good even to this day. His face at the very end of this was like “yeah that’s pretty fucking evil” 😰😰😰
best season of yugioh
battle city was good too, had alot of hype to it
ironically it was planned as a filler season
Fax
I agree
Yes
Sad fact is after he activated the orichalcos, he activated “Hand Control” which was already in his hand so he never needed the orichalcos to turn the duel around but that card blinded him
if he didn't use it it would have just been a regular card game. he must really hate losing lol
I Wish Seto Kabia could have seen this Battle i could only imagine the look on Seto Kabia face if he Saw this it would have Been Priceless Seto Kabia and Yami have always and always will Be my 2 favorite characters
I was thinking the same thing. Kaiba should've make duel disk capable of recording the duel and every moves.
@@ernestw2474 that's possible now.Except he hasn't done it yet.And of course,Kaiba knows about Yami losing. He was acting as if they made a promise to each other lmao
Actually, the duel disks do record and send information to Kaiba Corp. Kaiba has female clones monitoring everything.
In this season of Yu-GI-Oh, nothing can wrong in a duel until someone plays The Seal Of Orichalcos.
When season 0 yami takes over
Nah, THAT Yami took over in his duel with Weevil on the train.
@@videogollumer Yeah but in this duel, he has those glowing eyes like season 0. Season 0 Pharaoh was cruel, but he did it with a smile on his face. Weevil took him to a different level of anger.
i cried so hard when he cried I am a wreck every time I see that scene he was deceived but he's not evil
Raphael was such a jerk for forcing Yugi to do this 😡😡😡
Pride comes before the fall. If he just took the L nothing would have happened
We know what was making the Pharoah play that card it wasn't himself or the card it was the stone around his neck that was making him play it you all did see him strangely when he was touching it did you
Yep! That stone was the whole reason he played it.
The stone wasn’t the sole purpose of why he played it. yes it was a factor, but the truth is that the pharaoh craved victory and power. He had full pride and confidence in himself and the stone played on those traits. These which make up the pharaoh’s darkness was exploited in this duel by Raphael, the stone, and the pharaoh himself
@@jjack3186 at the very beginning when got it from that big low life jerk he was in a tragic shock when he look and he didn't really like it one bit but besides did the pharaoh play card exchange to get any cards from Raphael Jack no he didn't it was the other way around Raphael made sure there were none but one card in each other hand to make sure the pharaoh didn't get an alternated chance to not pick that evil card so re watch careful besides later on weaker yugi play it too and in case if he was on the field with that rotten stone around his neck instead of the pharaoh he would have played it way easier than him the only reason why didn't affected weaker yugi is because he was on the duelling field only that's why he tried stop early because he was a spirit at that point not the fresh and blood being remember the pharaoh was in control of the body at time not him and besides at least the duel wasn't really a complete success for the bad guys Jack remember Dartz and cruel brutal minions main target was the pharaoh remember but they didn't get him yeah the won they won the fight in this scene but they failed to get the target because little yugi was too weak to relived the evil great beast that's the dragon series didn't end because the villains didn't win not yet so far and the only person that can save the world in this danger is the pharaoh himself because he was the chosen one for the eye of Timaeus not weak little yugi because the only reason he can play him as well is because they share the same body remember so your wrong all the way about the pharaoh Jack because remember what every darkness is in him it's in weak little yugi too sorry sir
@@lpfan4491 Yeah? Well, have you read the Pre-Duel Monsters Manga? He's not called Yami (Japanese for "dark") Yugi for nothing, y'know.
The best sensible thing to do once yami got the card he could of ripped the evil card while his opponent wasn’t looking at least then he wouldn’t of played it and yugi wouldn’t of been mad at him
Ah yes, turning a no stakes duel into a fight for your soul. Bold strategy king of games.
That final shot of Evil Yami always gives me chills. 1:32
Raphael: "So tell me, how do you feel? Hahahaha!"
1:02 Pharaoh literally sealed his fate and Yugi paid the price
this was easily the most memorable episode in the series
Lmao this shit was hard when it aired. What a cliffhanger. I couldn’t wait for the next episode. Top tier anime and fantastic filler arc 🔥
As much as people dump on this season (especially since it's a filler arc), it really did have some of the most memorable moments in the series.
That moment haunts me as a kid.
Atem have fallen to the dark side of the Orichalcos.
What I find REALLY frustrating is that Atem had De-Fusion right next to the Seal which was the MUCH bettter option.
Crystal Seal prevents it.
@@alster724 no it doesn't
this moment still gives me chills and I remember my jaw dropping as a kid when I first saw it, the Rafael duel is my most rewatched duel for that scene alone 💜

That slow motion prior to Yugi playing it was mad cool.
This is like the Yu-Gi-Oh version of Majin Vegeta.
Um... yeah, pretty much.
"You're being evil. Like season 0 evil!"
The most shocking anime heel turn of all time! I was hurt when I was saw this as a kid and you're right Atem what have you done?! 🤦
*has defusion in his hand*
Yami : "I'm out of options!"
When I first saw this episode I was surprised to see Atem activate the Seal of Orichalcos but I still supported him and it always kind of freaks me out with how big that damn seal is on his forehead like damn....
Villian😅
“Please, don’t play that card!”
Too late, it’s activated!
when the filler has the best ark in the entire series
"So tell me how do you feel? HAHAHAHA!"-Rafael
Me the viewer "Yugi what did you do?!"
I'm like yami you are a fool
I remember that that episode will always be eleven years old that was so sad
Yu-Gi-Oh season 4 is my favorite 😅😅😅
That post nut clarity at 0:55 XD
Yami: I must win this childrens card game...
Yugi: Why there are no stakes on the line in this duel... Only bragging right... at best....
Yami: Bragging rights???....................... I must Win this childrens card game whatever the price!!!....
and people say Seto Kaiba is petty guy.... Which he is but Yami is no better..
Okay, but what if, instead of playing the card, Yami just tore it into shreds so it couldn't be used ever again?
it is against the rules.. doing so it means instant lose
He could always discard it
There's way more then 1 Orichalcos card
0:30 Even if we lost this card game, nothing can change at all.
-YGOTAS
this scene is always forged in my memories, remeber it exactly as a kid
My friends hated when i used the seal and used a earthbound immortal with the field protection spell card and a card that made 1 monster immune to the effects of trap spells and monster effects equip that to my earthbound immortal with the seal it was over quickly
IF THE PHARAOH, didn't take the stone from Gurimo, he wouldn't lose Yugis soul
"It doesn't matter to me, where this power came from! The thing that counts is: I now POSSESS IT !"
Yami if you needed something to get you back into the game just play the card destruction in your hand and draw a new five cards.
The best outcome for this turn: play de-fusion facedown, then card destruction, and draw four new cards
This is one episode that really broke my heart as a kid and even as a grown-up today I absolutely will not watch this episode just because it broke my heart so much to see the pharaoh give into his anger
Nobody's soul was at stake til atem played that damn card. It was a harmless game up til that point
If Yami Set The Seal (faced down) on the turn before he played Card of Sanctity, his 6th card would've been Catapult Turtle when the latter is played.
Then he activates The Seal and does the same play in the actual game, this is what his play would be...
Plays Hand Control then chooses Necromancy and summons 4 random Monsters
Gazelle, Berfomet, Kuribabylon, Big Shield Gardna
Sacrifices Gazelle and Berfomet for Dark Magician
Sacrifices Big Shield Gardna for Catapult Turtle
All Monsters will then be boosted (save for Kuribabylon since it was Special Summoned)
DM (2500 -> 3000/2100)
DMG (2000 -> 2500/1700)
CT (1000 -> 1500/2000)
Sacrifices Dark Magician
Rafael 3000 -> 1500
DMG's effect activates, raising her ATK by 300 since DM was sent to the Graveyard.
(2500 -> 2800/1700)
Sacrifices DMG
Rafael 1500 -> 100
Then finally sacrificing CT
Rafael 100 -> 0
This would win Yugi the Duel
*activates seal of ori*

I literally filmed my TV for this scene to be on my phone years ago - the poor quality is very similar and nostalgic 😊
It was dark
You loved it? I was furious
When I watched the series I never ever thought that card was going to be printed in English.. boy was I wrong.still have my copy to this day!!
That "what have I done?" lives rent free in my head and I hear it whenever I order another pizza.
Seal of orichalcos straight up turned Atem into season 0
What will happen if Kaiba were in Pharaoh's position? Would he fall for Rachael's trick, get brainwashed, and have his own dark side exposed, or will he resist using the evil card?
Pride at its best (or worst) for Atem.
Literally no stakes or consequences for winning or losing this duel until the Seal was played
Yugi's mind is twisted by playing that card
I love yugioh I will not stop watching I am on season 5 right now on tubi tv my favorite espiosed 1 through 5 right now
Is this your 1st time watching Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel monsters? Or you watched before and are now rewatching?
Me when I am losing in scrabble and it says "igger" and I have an "n" tile. 💀
Anyone else see the De-Fusion in Yugi's hand? He could've just De-Fused his Dragon Knight then re-fused it.
Nah timaous is a spell card it won't return to the field
@@omarbenkhaled285 Timaeus would return to Yugi's hand instead, but he could still re-fuse his Knight.
But again, there's literally nothing at stake here and a single loss wouldn't really hurt--
YAMI: Curse you, Rafael! You've given me no choice!
YUGI: Wait, what?
YAMI: I have to activate The Seal of Orichalcos!
YUGI: No! No, you don't!
YAMI: Too late, it's activated! I hope you're happy, Rafael! The guy who totally made me do this against my will!
