    Where were officials and lifeguards. NOBODY should drown in a sanctioned sporting event.

      the two lifeguards were just staring at the competition, who is the fastest, no interest in the swimmers further behind.

      They were 5-10 meters away from him on paddle boards. Atheltes were screaming that he was drowning while a spectator jumped into the water only to be told by a lifeguard that he needs to go back. That same life guard then paddled up to Lazar, circled around that position a few times then left. It took a full 3 hours for a full rescue operation to commence

      TBH the format is irrelevant Ive done long swim run events.. and it is like 5 runs with 6 swims in-between covering from 15km running in total and 6km in swimming... the swimmers are not close to each other, and not grouped together... this is sadly something that should have been seen with lifeguards, I do think more lifeguards need to be present... although again in swim run in rough seas we do not have lifeguards as near as in this video.

    I disagree. I'm not trained, and I could see in the video that he was in trouble... he was near the end, there were many people watching and yet nobody did a thing. Absolutely disgraceful!

  • @mrsTraveller64
    @mrsTraveller64 4 месяца назад +10

    it is very obvious from the drowning video to see what went wrong; the lifeguards were following the competition, looking all the time at the competitors who came close to the shore, they never kept an eye on the other swimmers!!!! They were just staring down on the two closest swimmers. He died because unprofessional lifeguards didn't care.

    No trying to be offensive but I guess that’s why in triathlon and duathlon you generally do the swim first - to reduce the likelihood of these kinds of incidents. Also where was the safety staff there should have been staff propositioned on the lake on boards or kayaks to assist anyone in distress. This should never happen especially at an elite level event.

      unrealistic. if many athletes in the water at the same time and he didn't struggle and just went under there would have needed to be a guard assigned to each swimmer. even then, in lake water they would have not been able to locate him in time to save life. even the ironman triathlon does not have a one to one guard ratio.

      One of the first things you learn about swimming is how to float face up in a resting position or facedown in the water while breathing out and lifting your head out of the water to breathe in. A sudden sinking is probably a cardiac arrest and loss of consciousness.

      He obviously could swim, swimming can be a tiring activity and when a swimmer gets tired they tend to hyperventilate, thinking they need to take in more air when they actually need to exhale. This causes panic and an unrelaxed body can’t float very well. This why I say that swimming is 90% being relaxed and 10% technique
