- Choreography by Kelly himself. The best number from the movie Les Girl. The special feature with the movie relates how Gene Kelly himself did the choreography for this dance although he did not get any screen credit for that. Sexy Gene Kelly dance with Mitzi Gaynor "Gone about that Gal" written by Cole Porter
I am an old man now, but some years ago I worked in the USA, and a lady who has been an absolute legend was appearing in her own show in Las Vegas, I am talking about the fabulous Mitzi Gaynor. I blew a ton of money on a four day stay in Vegas, and I had pre booked my ticket to see her perform. To say that I was stunned would be the understatement of my life, I knew from her films, that she was beautiful, but nothing prepared me for seeing her in person, she was a complete vision of beauty, no camera could ever capture her beauty, I swear I had never seen anyone as beautiful in my life At the age of 88 now, I am still smitten. Thank you Mitzi, for giving an old guy a lifetime of fabulous memories.
Black costumes against a red background, and a couple of gorgeous and jaw-droppingly talented dancers combine to make this scene a pure and sensual pleasure to watch.
Mitzi was so talented with all her dance movements and flexibility, and yet, kind of a forgotten wonderful female dancer that surely was underrated. This number alone is so well done as she couples so well with Gene. Great upload!
Her best movie, best number, best everything :) Underrated musical.
I grew up in the 1950's-1960's, and I absolutely adored Mitzi Gaynor.❤ That shows I had good taste.
I never though Mitzi Gaynor got the full star status she deserved..she was so talented with an amazing figure and could sing, dance and act up a storm....xxx
How I miss the imagination and technical perfections of those old days. Of course Kelly and Gaynor are superb. But look at the meticulous support they're given: The set is so wonderful and "painterly". The 3-dimensional pieces, like the cash register, and juke-box with painted outlines... And look at how her simple "little black dress" moves... those weights sewn into the hem... just the RIGHT weight... so that it flares beautifully and comes back to rest. And the coordination of the camera work and editing to perfectly be part of the choreography. All stuff taken totally for granted by and large.
Sheer excellence!!!
Andrew Rudin the painterly set is wonderful. It gives the feel of being in a storybook. Or a work of art. I also love the beatnik-hip style of the routine. The way he falls to the floor when she pushes him and the way they move around each other. It's erotic. It was quite hip for those days. The fact that Gene is wearing an open-necked black shirt and trousers and she's wearing a very unfussy, fitted black Bodice and full skirt. It feels cool and jazzy and not classical like many studio routines used to. I can see Gene's sexy stylistic influence here. His dancing had a youthful, energetic and machismo swagger to it which has been lost today in the oversexualised vulgar dance routines all over the media and on tv. Dance is often cheap-looking today and so are the dancers. Just so vulgar.
Andrew - Not anymore, thanks to you!
The Dream Factory
I think Mitzi was so underrated, she was a good actress, fantastic dancer, could sing AND had personality.....cute, beautiful little figure on her too....
IRONBUTTERFLY ASMR Mitzi was good, but Cyd Charisse emoted sex appeal with just a look. As good as Mitzi was with this dance, to me it was like Doris Day cast as a “lady of the night”
@@mmills5951 Mitzi was talented but there were others who did it longer and gave a unique twist to their dancing.
Vera Ellen for her speed and gymnastics
Cyd Charisse for her ballet mixed with jazz and she's limber
Ann Miller with her tap dancing.
I totally agree. Same with DONALD O' CONNOR AND ANN MILLER
Thank you. She was adorable! I preferred her and Ann Miller over all the others myself.
@@stmichl9433 cant forget Vera Ellen
Simply the best. How fortunate we are that we can still watch these two fabulous dancers.
Mitzi was a true consummate dancer/entertainer, Gene Kelly said of her, "she was one of a few who did'nt have tantrums and cry, she just got on with it, Jack Cole was the best dance teacher in the business, he made Mitzi a real dancer 5 years before this in the movie the i don't care girl, where mitzi does some of her best dancing, especially beale street blues, and the johnson rag, JUST FANTASTIC
Love Mitzi she a sweet face and down to earth person. Love her professionalism and great talent
Mitzi really was a fantastic dancer.
Me too! I can't take my eyes off of him whenever he's on screen and it's been that way for more than 40 years now, ever since that day when I saw "Singin' in the rain" for the very first time, I was 11 and fell in love with Gene the moment I saw him and I still love him just as much if not more. His looks, his smile, his perfect body and his out of this world phenomenal dancing is why I always will be in awe of this man!
mitzi sure was one dame!
The other features that I truly admire about this production number of Mr Gene Kelly & Ms Mitzi Gaynor - besides Mr Jack Cole & Mr Gene Kelly's sizzling & amazing choreography - were the marvelous set design;the beautiful composition of Mr Cole Porter;the stunning scene-execution of Mr George Cukor; the elegant & dramatic black costumes of the lead stars & the bit players;and the fascinating, sanguine, and fiery performances of the alluring Ms Mitzi Gaynor and the ever-dazzling Mr Gene Kelly.
This number was all Kelly. Jack Cole was in the hospital with hepatitis at the time.
I miss these romantic comedy musicals. They literally don't make them like this anymore.
Gene Kelly had a kind of masculine feline energy to him. Like a panther, love him.
This is the most perfect description of him yet! Even in Inherit The Wind, his character has a surly Tom-ness to it. Not an alley cat, but that world weary look cats have while still ready for anything.
Mitzi's Dancing is a class act.
those wonderful times of hollywood...wish them back!
Terrific number done by two dancers both athletic and graceful, pulling off such an enjoyable routine to some hot music. It sure is a Gene Kelly choreography all the way!
here is the amazing Mitzi in a Cyd style number really nailing it with major sensuality and that line!!!
Sorry to slightly disagree, The 'number' was a ;Gene ke;lly number' and Mitzi could dance rings around Cyd Charisse...any day.
I was fortunate enough to have seen Mitzi live on tour with her revue at Theatre of the Stars in Atlanta in the mid-1970s.
Fred Astaire may have been one of the greatest male dancers of the musical era, but Gene Kelly was THE greatest.
Simply perfect. They cannot TOUCH this these days...
I smiled all the way through. 😀
Historical moment in Hollywood history! Please give us real WIDE SCREEN ORIGINAL version! MERCI BEAUCOUP! Emmanuel
The stars of today are a far cry from the stars here. More talent, and fully clothed. Evergreens.
Remarkable, sensual, delightful, and completely mesmerizing. Safe to say this is a love scene.
put run DMC It's like that over that track see what you think !
Whoa. It WORKS!
@@helenporter4729 Wow. With the original music it's beautiful, sensual, and romantic. Put It's Like That in the background and it becomes almost dirty... and even hotter. I'm amazed.
Beautiful. Gene looked and danced amazingly well.
She has the loveliest extensions, and such a great ballet grounding, a joy to watch!
Mitzi's legs -- now THOSE would be something to go viral about! Angelina is lovely, but Mitzi is INCREDIBLE.
I've always had a crush on Gene Kelly, he's tight. If I had grown up during his era, I would've given him a run as his #1 stalker. Mitzi looks amazing, so elegant.
"If Fred Astaire was the Cary Grant of dance, I'm the Marlon Brando" - Gene Kelly.
Blue collar version.

A wonderful routine. This lady does not disappoint. Has it all.
They both were fantastic!
Ive seen pleanty of Dancers in my 51 years of existence and This is the most awesome duo that has ever glided across the floor wish I could of seen them live and in person they are liike magnet to steel or ying to yang Bravo poetry in motion
I loved Gene Kelly, I wanted to be a dancer, I love good tap dancers and these great old movies
Mitzi ? Damn!!!!! ALL woman, beautiful and talented. Who could axt fer more ?
Two beautiful people and beautiful dancers and Gene Kelly's sexy choreography all add up to wow.
Two amazing talents. How about that leap up on to the bar by Kelly at 3:12!? Gaynor was a wonderfull dancer. She was still dancing on stage well into the 1980's.
Thomas Leary Gene only just made it ; he lost a couple of milliseconds !
check out his stunt work in the 3 musketeers 1948 version. He does some stunts you'll find hard to believe.
Glorious Mitzi!
That intro with Mitzi is the sexiest thing I've ever seen!
Gotta love Mitzi!!!!!
I always wonder how dancers remember so much choreography, getting every step in sync with fellow dancers.
I’m sure it’s due to months and months of practice.
that was amazing wow and also love her dress do they even make dresses like that anymore that has that much flare when you spin because i want one. and the dancing wow
Mitzi Gaynor is so believable as a 'lioness' in this scene. The brandished chair confirms the observation.
No contemporary dancers can even vaguely imitate what their great grandparents did in the fifties.
She had so much power in her thin frame, it is shocking considering how muscular modern dancers are
I want that dress!
please tell me, if you can finde it :)
My grandmother sewed a dress like this for herself, but now she gave it to me cause it fits me haha ❤️
Zoe ZR Lucky you! Such a dress looks much better, than todays ultra short dresses. This Performance is the best proof!
BlackbunnyxD Also, my grandmother made a beautiful I Love Lucy looking dress! It has white polka dots on a red dress!
Zoe ZR sure it looks great. But I guess, today many People will laugh at a person wearing such a dress. It is a beautiful and incredible good looking dress style, but today some kind of sensitivness for truly grace got lost. If somebody would invent a time machin, guess in which time i would travel ;)
Mitzi Gaynor could do it all!
I read an interview with Mitzi Gaynor in which she called Gene Kelly "delicious."
yes he looked delicious!
susan lloyd a gorgeous gorgeous man in every way.
How did I never see this before? Love it! *sigh* They don't make 'em like this anymore...
Like two exotic felines! Beautiful! Kelly wasn't as strict as Astaire with his dance partners, although both Kelly and Astaire were superb dancers! Thank you.
BRILLIANT & GRACEFUL!!! ★★★★★
Thanks for the nice comment Vinay! Cheers!
This is a fun film. Les Girls. Gene was probably 44 when he made this film.
They're both so great I don't know who to watch
this is labeled as "sexy" yet there is more respect and class in this scene than a "sexy" scene by today's standards. They don't make 'em like they used to...
Absolutely divine!
Such a perfectionist but GENEs, choreography Always seemed t get the best out of his co-dancers. He's one of HOLLYWOODS GR8s .
Absalutely amazing first time ive seen these 2 together great routine stoty technique artistry
Fabulous REAL MUSIC and such imagery and imagination. IT was stuff like this that MADE kids want to go to Hollywood or Broadway to make it big. This was the romance America had with the rest of the world.
Amazing! I hadn't seen this before, so thank you for posting
After his successes in the early 50's with An American In Paris and Singin In The Rain, MGM should have negotiated a deal to loan Kelly out to play Sky Masterson in the film version of Guys And Dolls [ he would have been better suited for the role than Marlon Brando ] and to re-create his performance as Joey Evans in Pal Joey. He was still young enough for both roles.
Absolutely agree. Stupid rules in those days.
Ironic that Sinatra got 'Pal Joey' after Kelly had taught him how to dance.
How she moves her derriere at the jukebox !
El pajaro azul
The Kardashian's would be jealous !
Gene Kelly...swoon🤩
Wow I need a moment after watching that
Soooo beautiful! Balanced & languid.
I would love to just up and dance with someone like this, surprise them with amazing dance moves.
What amazing choreography.
I just hope dancing is permitted in Paradise! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gene Kelly was one hell of a man.
Kelly's skill has no time !!!
I never seen Gene Kelly wear a leather jacket :)
Great Video.
Romantic, sexy absolutely sublime you don’t get this now
"Gene Kelly lifting me up like I was a powder puff. I was in Heaven." Mitzi Gaynor.
No, you aren't the only one! I think there are millions of women who wants to have his babies, dance with him and just be with him...
they are both just so amazing!!!!
Great days of Hollywood
Bud Spencer looks awesome in that delightful ballet!
WoW, what a wiggle.
it something that will probably never be seen again beauty
You took the words right out of my mouth!
CRAZY works about Home HOLLYWOOD,! BRAVO ! Emmanuel from PARIS
Can we like bring back golden age style musicals? Like I really appreciate some modern stuff but there's something about the artisticness, the quality, the precision that is just not the same anymore. Nothing feels as professional? idk. can't put my finger on it. there's something so careful about them. You can tell a lot of effort was done..
What a set! 😍😍😍
Times have changed, I am very aware of that. But why, the HECK, aren't such brilliant, ravishing, elaborate and stunning Musical numbers anymore produced nowadays? (There ARE some exceptions.)
It couldn't be the lack of money in Hollywood today.
Let's agree on Producer cowards perhaps?
Good question...I am stunned by the quality of the dancers, choregraphy and settings. Waouh ! Mitzi Gaynor is fantastic, and Gene Kelly at his best, ce qui n'est pas peu dire...
unusual yet fabulous choreography
Лаконично,ярко, эмоционально о мужском и женском. Блеск!!!
Wonderful dance 🥰
Amazing!
Clearly well matched ...and that is hard to do with Kelly.
@Poet2916 I am also feeling that way as well I have always had a crush on Gene Kelly!! And noone will never top his good looks or his smile!! Love you Gene baby!! :)
Sexiest dance he ever did was with cyd Cherise. That broad way melody set in the night club was just smokin'
yes when film musicals finnished,, Cyd had nowhere to go. she came alive when she danced, but had zero personality and was a very wooden actress.. plus her voice was dubbed in films
I agree, their Broadway Melody dance together was very hot. Which makes it all the stranger that their dancing together in Brigadoon 2 years later really wasn't. It was sweet, it was romantic, but didn't have any of the sizzle they shared in Broadway Melody.
I would say the fountain part of An American in Paris final ballet...
amazing!!!
Dos fenómenos del espectáculo y el baile. Irrepetibles, eternos ...
What fluid movements
"Grease" in olden times ....
I was named after mitzi hah
What I remember hearing is that Gene Kelly was very dedicated to proving you could be an expressive dancer AND a sexy, masculine straight man at the same time. Since, I suppose, that's always been in question. Maybe I'm weird but I have always found male dancers to be sexy and masculine - whatever their orientation is.
ロマンチックな音楽に素晴らしいダンス。そしてジーン・ケリー!
Gone are the days...
