    Amazing. I never get tired of those skyline views at the beginning, and I have to say this whole video brings a lot of memories to my mind (my dad and I used to go from Fort Lauderdale to Miami to visit my grandma every month or so, and we usually drove down I-95 till its terminus and continued down US-1). And yeah, you do see a couple of nice interchanges that by East Coast standards are almost insane. What I don't miss is motorcycles flying by at 3000 mph!!

    I've driven this road more times than I can count. Drove it many years before I-95 was even built. Had to use US1 then. You must have recorded this on a Sunday morning considering the lack of traffic. But you did a nice job. I've seen your Cosom videos also. Always great work. Thanks.

    @Bbgunn325: Driving thru it a few times, I never got lost thru it, but a big part of that was because I've studied it on maps before. Even so, while putting this video together, it still took me several minutes to decipher what routes were served by each ramp. Truly a strange configuration, maybe the strangest I've ever seen for such a major interchange.
    LOL @ your other comment.

  • @FreewayBrent
    @FreewayBrent  13 лет назад +3

    @WiiMariokartResort: I never even saw this comment now. The long stretches of I-95 I haven't driven yet are north of Portland, ME, and between Richmond, VA to Jacksonville, FL. From what other people have told me, I wasn't missing much by skipping out on the stretches of I-95 thru the Carolinas and Georgia (I've taken I-85 and I-75, instead).

    Now this is badass! Awesome work, Brent!
    95 in South Florida is one of the most challenging roads to drive even for the most experienced drivers. It's also one of my favorites (love that skyline view in the beginning and from the HOV flyover at Golden Glades). Like you new signs, too! ;-)

      +Jeff Keller: Hey there, Jeff! Thanks for dropping by and commenting. To be honest, I've released newer videos that are much better produced/edited. I'm sure you know who FreewayJim is, but CosmoPhotography has also done some fine videos in South Florida. I'll link you to one of them from Miami, since you'll find it to be much better edited than this video you watched.

    @RedroomStudios: Yeah, I-95 is definitely an impressive freeway, especially by east coast standards. That soaring HOV flyover ramp in the median, about 3/5 into the video, was built in 1995; kinda reminds me in some ways of the I-110 elevated HOV structure in Los Angeles.

    @hadabenz: Thanks, man! I saw your comment on my I-80 (Utah) video as well, but I was really hoping you'd watch one of my most recent videos, as this video, more or less, represents what my future releases will look like.
    In the future, I plan on eventually re-editing the best of my scenic and urban videos, and introduce my revised annotation format. Should look much better, especially with videos such as the I-80 you watched.
    Thanks again!

    Thanks for uploading this video. I've lived in Miami Florida during the first 20 years of my life before moving to Denver Colorado about 4 years ago. Watching this video brings back so many memories of my childhood. I remember 95 as being on of the worst freeways with traffic. Though it has always been one of the best freeways to drive because you're right near the Atlantic Ocean. I enjoyed this little trip down memory lane.

    @CosmoPhotography: Yeah, once you combine the high traffic counts with the different lane configurations and left-handed entrances and exits from and to major freeway junctions, I can see how it can definitely be confusing to drive. I'll agree, the skyline views afforded from I-95 are great, and especially at night, when all the buildings are nicely lit up.
    As far as all the inserted signs are concerned, well, I think *you* started that trend. :-)

  • @FreewayBrent
    @FreewayBrent  14 лет назад +1

    @AlvinHDavernport: I feel you on that. Seeing my own footage certainly brought back a lot good memories from South Florida. The I-595 interchange is right up there amongst my favorites on the East Coast (I-595 is basically a series of one flyover after another).

    I just came across your channel, I like it, really cool idea. I lived in S Fl. in the early days just before and during when I-95 was built. Did you know that this portion of the Interstate had stop lights? There were two, one at Ives Dairy Road and another at 196 St. Both were there to let residents of Ives Estates, a former dairy, to have egress to as we called it, "95". Every day we used those lights to leave the neighborhood, the lights were on a magnetic switch. Amazing to see an

  • @FreewayBrent

    You're probably a lot more familiar with the HOV lane. A HOT lane is similar, except that solo motorists can pay a toll to enter the lanes, while carpools still get to ride in the lanes for free.

  • @FreewayBrent
    @FreewayBrent  14 лет назад

    @Cyrus992: Unfortunately, I did not record Florida's Turnpike, when I was driving around the state. In my true honest opinion, there are more interesting freeways to be found in Florida, although there is a section, northwest of Orlando, that is actually relatively hilly. Hills and Florida, now those are 2 words that you don't often see thrown together in the same sentence!

  • @AlvinHDavernport
    @AlvinHDavernport 14 лет назад

    @aswchris There is some WPB-MIA commuting but it's not a high-volume thing. As you know, the Greater Miami area's (aka South Florida or the Gold Coast) three counties are kind of lined up in a row, Broward being in the middle, so it's a very elongated metro area. You do see a lot of commuting from and to Broward, since none of its neighborhoods is more than 75 minutes away from any part of SFL, but parts of WPB are 90-100 minutes away from downtown Miami, even driving at a nice, constant 80 mph.

    Just curious, cause I see you love doing the open road, still trying to find somebody in the world who has covered at least 48 states like I did since 1998, by car only, is it you the... #1? Maybe 49 or even all 50 states?
    Drive safely out there.

  • @FreewayBrent
    @FreewayBrent  14 лет назад

    @aswchris: Hey Chris. As far as commuting all the way from WPB, some certainly do it, although those people are certainly in the minority, as housing prices aren't (as) expensive as what you see in much of urban California.
    What would you say is the best freeway to drive along in Europe, for skyline views?

  • @FreewayBrent
    @FreewayBrent  12 лет назад

    I actually meant HOT lanes. They stand for High Occupancy Toll, a relatively new term to describe HOV lanes that allow solo drivers to enter the lanes, for a toll. Hence the term, HOT. There is a national push to eventually convert many HOV lanes into HOT lanes.

  • @AlvinHDavernport
    @AlvinHDavernport 14 лет назад

    @FreewayBrent Absolutely. I love I-595, short as it is. The Sawgrass Expressway interchange at its western terminus is probably my favorite interchange ever.
    I really, really like the Broward area, especially west of US 441 (and east of I-95, of course!). It's probably one of Florida's prettiest suburban areas, with really smooth roads, an expansive waterway network, and lots and lots of greenery.

    entire Interstate to come to a stop while we crossed over all of the lanes. Of course one needs to know that one of the purposes of the Interstate was limited access, i.e. no stoplights. When 95 first opened there was a true story of a Fl Highway Patrolman following a car that at first went 50 then sped up to 70 then to 90 mph! When the car was stopped, the lady explained she was only going 90, a full 5 mph below the speed limit. Thanks for your site, I will enjoy catching up with it.

    I've been on I-95 Miami and even through the GGI. That intersection is crap! It looks like a highway junction where they just kept adding on without any thought how the motorist is supposed to drive the thing. And the signage is not too great either: it looksl like the SHD did the minimal effort to guide the motorist through.
    And I think the overhead directional guide signs over the toll tags only lanes should be in purple also.
