  • How Good Is John John Florence, REALLY?...
Imagine learning to surf on monster waves before you could even walk! That's John John's childhood, the man who started surfing at just 6 months old.
From spending his childhood years riding Pacific waves on the shores of Hawaii’s North Shore to his many victories around the world, John ‘John John’ Alexander Florence is a surfing legend.
His nickname ‘John John’ came from John F. Kennedy Jr who was also called John John during his father's time in office. He was named after John F. Kennedy Jr.
John John's surfing journey started right from birth, born in Honolulu, Hawaii, he grew up in Hale’iwa in an ocean-side house at Banzai Pipeline.
His mother, an amazing surfer herself, first put John John on a surfboard at 6 months old.

@gavinkainoagarcia5907 Good eye! No explanation on this. Most likely just didn't pay as close attention during edits :) We will work on this.

Love this channel , soemthing that may be cool for you is the history of skeleton bay ! seeing that everyone that has a board and a camera has been chasing the donkey !

@sakhubuntu Thank you! Skeleton Bay is an amazing break and could make for a good story/video. However, our focus at this time isnt on surf locations, but rather on profiles of current and past professional surfers as well as other aspects within the WSL. Perhaps this is something we could explore in the future :)

This didn't even begin to describe John's talent. How he has progressed the sport, including a totally new approach to Margaret River. Also left out his huge sailing achievements including the year of one of his injuries. John is a true artist at surfing, nobody like him. When he's gone from wsl I won't be watching anymore

I wonder who these vids are aimed at. Is it bringing people into the sport from outside or more content for those who are already surf fans. Because as someone’s who’s followed the sport closely for about 20yrs there’s things I pick up on that maybe the lesser fan wouldn’t but for me it’s frustrating. Like to say 34th in the world is good in his first year. For context, that year had a mid-season relegation where some dropped off as they do now, but others like John & Gabriel were promoted. John only had 5 events & got a qtr at Pipe but his overall results were poor & highlighting his low rank while calling it good is weird when the Owen video mentions his rookie of the year season had him finishing 7th. 34th is nearly last but it’s not his fault with only half a season to amass points. He obviously went onto amazing things later but because I enjoy these types of videos & want them to be better I have to point things these things out.

Dude are you really a surfer? Have you ever waxed it up strapped on the leash and paddled out into some serious waves? If so my apologies
