Cheating, bribes, bans, penalties, prison & drivers burning alive.
All were caused by one man.
The man who ultimately got banned from Formula 1 forever.
I don’t think there’s anyone that even comes close to the levels of controversy of this man.
But somehow it took 19 years before he got any real consequences for his actions.
Some people call him the puppet master, the cheater, or the conman.
I’ll let you decide the most fitting name.
This is the entire story of how Flavio Briatore became one of the most impactful, successful, and controversial figures in Formula 1 history…

Some context, from Willem Toet's LinkedIn.
"The rule makers (FiA) will often make bold and short press announcements such as (1994) - "traction control is banned". The reality is that the teams have to comply with a complex and lengthy set of technical regulations. If you can find a way to improve your car within the letter of those regulations then you're legal even if you have "traction control". F1 has always worked that way and still does today. In 1994 Benetton may have been the first to discover these loopholes but they were not the only ones.
In early 1994 the great Ayrton Senna had to park his Williams car after some problem and chose to stay out on track for a while and watch / listen to the other cars. He noticed the Benetton appear to stutter coming out of the slower corners which he thought must be traction control (it was). But the way Benetton had achieved it was quite legal. So the controversy starts. Williams complain to the press and the FiA. Benetton stay quiet because they don't want to explain how they have done what they have done. Eventually all teams learned what to do to achieve legal (letter of law not intent of law) traction control. That then ended with the introduction of standard engine control units (ECU's)."
Benetton (and other teams) found a LEGAL way to run a type of traction control on their cars in 1994. This video states it was proof they (Benetton) were definitely cheating. That's not entirely correct though is it. What Benetton were doing was within the rules. They were not cheating.

Pretty much it was just FIA calling it a cheat because they never thought someone was brazen enough to take advantage of loopholes. The FIA is so stuck up with their rules that they thought loopholes won't exist and if someone manages to find one and exposes it, they will call it a cheat just to stop others from taking advantage of said loophole than fix the damn rulebook.

Ross Brawn and Colin Chapman were also cheats and con men.
Chapman killed numerous drivers due to his disinterest in safety. Brawn won a title for Schumacher with an illegal car. And now he designs the specs for new cars for the FIA.

Flavio's partner in crime, Pat Symonds, also got a life-time F1 ban and was later welcomed back into the fold as CTO of the FIA, now he's a chief advisor for Andretti?
Ron Dennis, the guy with a penchant for stolen intellectual property, was recently knighted.
But hey, this is Formula 1, so we better put some respect to their names praise them as the "miracle workers" they are. If any one can bring the clown show that is Alpine f1 back to the top of the pile then it has to be Flavio. His first deed was to sack Famin and if the Renault engines won't cut it, then he'll look elsewhere, Luca de Meo and Renault be damned! 😂

All because F1 does not want to Andretti racing and Cadillac in F1. Why, they all know what HASS is lacking and what Andretti brings. Hell Toto knows Cadillac is a direct competitor in the US market with Merc, especially with African Americans. Hamilton was the poster guy, and we all know this. Toto has fought the Cadillac entrance tooth and nail. Folks it is all about business in the end. Flavio is a crook and should be tread as one, but the FIA is spinless and money driven as well. If I were the USASC and IMSA senior leadership I would not let any European company race in the USA, with that comes reciprocity but America is a bigger market and can withstand any European shit. Toyota is ok as well as Flavio, but Cadillac is not!!!

Shameful thumbnail and title. Briatore was no worse than the rest of them. Want to have a discussion about Spygate and Liegate (McLaren)? Ferrari's "glory" years (jerez 97, their get other people's technology banned tactic in 98, winning in the pit lane, illegal barge boards to win the 99 championship, parking at monaco, the tyre protest in 2003, montoya's ridiculous penalty at indy 2003, schumacher getting outside assitance at the nurburgring when he should've been dsq'd - also 2003). Flavio and Ron were singled out because they weren't friends of Max, so they bore the brunt of things. Want to have a discussion about how often in 2010-13 the Toro Rossos caused incidents or chose not to defend against Seb Vettel so that he could get by (most ridiculously at Abu Dhabi in 2012)?
