- It's a sad day when you TV stops working properly. Your heart sinks because you know they are difficult to repair and expensive to replace. Most TV repair shops closed down several years ago due to the high cost of repairs. TVs have become disposable technology to most people. However, they really aren't all that hard to repair and it costs much less than you think! This video walks you through how to replace a common issue on Vizio and a few other brands of TV.

Great video Very easy to follow with only one mistake, when you replace a TCon Board one should wait to remove the screws until after the cables are unhooked to avoid having to hold down plate not only making this easier but less amount of times hands are on the device the better. It's odd your replacement order is right, and you even note your reason for doing so which made it odd when you didn't when you removed it.
Good instructions thanks. This might be the repair needed for one of my two Vizio's crashing in the same two weeks. I'll explain both situations and hopefully you can share your thoughts on diagnosis. TV. #1, Backlight certainly works but losing color, contrast and brightness as the picture is starting to blacken out in top left corner and bottom right...almost is rectangle shape. Picture is good after a rested restart and the problem quickly creeps back in. TV. #2, our oldest Vizio maybe 8 years, 50". First sign of a problem was the quick App start brand bottoms at the bottom of the modern FireStick would change the TV input to an unused port. Next problem it would blackout and flicker back on with clear white horizontal lines. Then it flickered until it don't come back. After long rests it worked again a couple times, with sound, and was back out within 10 minutes. Now it's out-out with no sound of the FireStick clicks changing the Apps and all black screen...no backlight. With was a 2 month experience from beginning to end.

Happened to me 5-6 years ago.
I kept the tv for over a year just sitting there because I had only used it a handful of times, eventually I went on Google figured out I could buy a PCB and it could fix it. So I replaced it and voila.

Hey man I wanted to ask I have a Vizio e65 f1 and it’s doing something similar to what yours is. Is there a way to test before I buy? The flashlight trick didn’t work for me
If you have a multimeter you should be able to check continuity throughout the backlight, or check between connections on the board. The latter would require schematics or knowing which circuits are where.
Hi. Thanks for taking the mystery out of the repair. I have a Vizio p602uib3 Flat screen TV. The screen starts out black then goes all white in 30 - 40 seconds and the audio works. What is the board that I need, where do I get it, and what is the cost. Alan

It is a crap shoot with this particular model. They are known to blow TCon boards. The new one could last a few years or it could blow immediately.
Yeah I heard there’s issues with the panel drivers burning out the t-con. Who knows, maybe I’ll get lucky. Is yours still working or did yours burn out again?

I have the same problem on an Vizio XVT3D474SV. Its an oldie (around 13 years old) but even then, the picture quality is great, in my opinion.
Anyway, I searched for this part, however, the only few i could find are worth $100-$230 😢
So if thats the case I might just buy a new TV with thay. Sad.

I replaced t con board plugged it in and powered it on vizio logo popped up so I shut it off took inside hooked it up and the remote doesn’t work now and the screen is back to not working again same issue

How did you know it was the T Con that needed to be replaced? Mine turns on, but I can't select a source or any menu items. After about 5 minutes a screen saver image shows up so I know it's not anything to do with the actual LED Display. I was thinking I needed to replace the main board, but then I came across this video. It's the first time I've heard of the T Con Board.
Yours doesn’t sound like a tCon issue.
I have a vizio m75q6-j03 same screen problem like yours BUT no sound...was working fine earlier that day...do you think its same problem..its only 2 years old BUT of course out of warranty

Hey , i just woke up and my vizio 58" seems to have the same problem.. backlight is on sound too but no image.. there is a small white smuge on the down left corner it seems like my kid knock something into the tv but not 100% sure. You think changing the t-con board will fix the problem?
I’m not sure it’s worth it since you can see there is also physical damage.
Back lights work new tcon board no sound no picture help....
A lot of the time it's the power inverter board in this case, especially if you have sound & can see the picture just faintly when shinning a flash light at the screen without lights on in the room your TV's in..

TVs are tricky. You might want to sell it on FB marketplace for parts and move on.
I'm having the same problem.. I bought 3 T-Cons boards and it still glows..
I have an Elements 58" E4AA58R. I have sound and no picture. My screen light up blue. On the left side I have a pinpoint bright white spot. My issue started there and changed to horizontal lines on the lower third, then my screen went blank. I am having issues find parts for that model. Any suggestions what my problem is and how to repair.
It’s probably cheaper to buy a new TV.
I am just stuck. Initial issue was black screen, back lights are on and have sound. Changed Tcon board and still the same issue. Changed all the boards, same issue. Tried various combinations between old parts and new ones, same issue. Did a factory reset from TV buttons and can hear the TV respond and say reset will start shortly, still same issue. Any idea what else could make sense? I dont think the boards are bad.Vizio 585-H11

Mine will fade out but will turn back on after I hold the mute button for a few seconds followed by pressing the exit button on the remote. Would replacing the t-con board solve that problem too?

Replaced my t-con cause of dimmed screen (dark and lack of blue) on my lg 49uh610v refurbished one that was probably damaged during transport gave black screen (backlight on) no startup logo LG. So I've put my old one back and now also when turned on not even LG logo... Anyone could help me? Can't afford a new one etc. let alone new TV.
Ok I’ve replaced tcon board and still not working any ideas what no tackle next I still have light around the screen and lights up when I turn on but still no picture 🤦♂️🤷♂️

my TV was on overnight for two days and I try to watch a movie & my TV started to turn different colors on the screen . So i unplug the T.v & then Hold the power button for 30 seconds 🔌 the TV back up turn the TV back on and press the input button And that’s the magic of fixing your TV thanks for the Video it really works you guys pay attention to your TV and you will fix it ??

We are going to check the backlight, we definitely have sound and no picture. If we shine a flashlight into the screen we can see a faint picture.

Press on the screen gently , if you can see illuminated white spots on pressure marks that means back light is working . If no then you have to replace the backlight .
My TV did the same thing and I replaced all three of the boards. Problem remains still. Any suggestions?

My Vizio 55 E55-E2 bought it in 2018 ...I did all the reset but it still goes black screen after awhile... I just hear sound only is it that board causing the problem?

Just like yours, my backlight is coming on with no picture. But when I power on the TV, the Visio logo appears and disappears (like it normally does), then no picture. You can still see the glow of the backlight, but there's no picture. Flashlight test doesn't work. Unplugging and holding down the power button doesn't work either. Could it be the t-con board, like yours?

Honestly it was a guess based on research. I don’t have the tools needed to test.
I have 55 in vizio tv will work fine for 1hour or so then picture goes black has sound turn tv off let sit 5 to 10 min turn tv on run 1min or so picture goes black no back up lights still has sound I replace t-con an power inverter board please help me out I order power board I'm hoping that it the motherboard I cant find m3d550kd anywhere thank you

I have a 65" Vizio Smart TV,
My video pops off after a few minutes of streaming netflix. The sound is still there. So I'm guessing the T-con board is the culprit of my headache then?

They are really hard to diagnose without a multimeter and and understanding of the circuits

Okay so my TV is showing the Vizio logo and then goes black from there. I’ve tried various versions of the reset and nothing helps.

@@ablaylock4273 In the end no...I tried a lot of troubleshooting nothing worked. Took it to a tv guy and he said it was never gonna work again. Got rid of it, got a new and made sure this time to get the warranty. Thanks for checking though!

@@TightWadDIY interesting, my mom’s Vizio had a similar issue but I believe she said there was black lines showing up before the picture went out. I suspect it’s the LCD panel, do you know where I can source one or would it be more economical to sell the TV for scrap parts? Thanks!

My TV is 4 years old, warranty just expired. I left the room to get a coffee, and came back to a grey screen with blurry vertical lines. There is sound and I can tell that the the grey lines shift if I press buttons on the remote control. The TV turns on and off. Just a crap picture. I have the VIZIO "v585-h11" and every replacement part I checked has a price well over $100.00.
For a few dollars more than "spare parts", I bought a new TV with warranty. Now I am going to tinker with the old TV and see if any fuses or capacitors are blown and replace them. Maybe I'll snip a few diodes as a last resort.

It's a retro GAMER TV too. WIth the RGB and RCA hook ups.
Black screen does have sound, Plugged & unplugged didnt solve problem.

@@TightWadDIY it was the t board i unpluggd on the ribbets from the board and half the screen turned on than i plugged both in an the screen went black again , lol

Goto ebay order tcon board get serial number of board your model of your tv insert board very carefully and voila
backlight working, changed t con board, turned on TV, showed VIZIO for about 5 secs, then back to back lights only. HELP
These TVs are known to blow TCons so there is a chance it blew your new one.

Vizio is known for this, I had 3 of them that did the same thing. Junk TV's
Unfortunately a lot of TV manufacturers are now many disposable TVs. Most aren’t worth repairing now.

another tip to protect you from getting shocked is to unplug it and hold down the power button to flush all excess electricity from the storage!

It could have a bad main board or it could be shot. Check the fuse first to make sure it’s not something really easy.
Mine is only 6 months old and this is what’s wrong with it I’m so dam mad I buy a Visio tv because there supposed to be a good brand I will never buy one again a no name brand would have lasted longer than this

Don’t throw it out. Sell it on FB marketplace. You should be able to get $100-$150 for it even if it’s broken.
I think Vizio tv suck and their customer service were no help whatsoever I only had it for two years pay $650 and now it’s dead..
