Drilling a drain hole in a pot

Today, I'm drilling a drain hole in a small pot my wife bought at IKEA. I found some small diamond "hole saws" on Amazon for low $$ and previously used them to make some oil candles out of glass jars. The glass was much tougher to drill and required submersion in water to prevent breakage due to thermal stress. I had blowout on both materials in spite of using a block of wood to back up the glass. I suspect that you'll have blowout regardless of what you do to prevent it.
