8 Amazing Places in YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK [4K]

  • Yosemite National Park is one of the most unique places in North America. Located in the Sierra mountains of California, Yosemite is one of the oldest US national parks and spans over 1200 square miles. In this video, I show you 8 of my favorite hikes and destinations within this national park in a vlog-style format. The valley is very attractive to rock climbers, hikers, nature enthusiasts, and tourists from all over the world. While it can sometimes be crowded in the valley, a short hike up one of the many trails from the valley quickly brings you away from the crowds and into complete solitude.
    Mirror lake trail is an easy hike that allows for a great first day walk after traveling all day to get to the valley. This hike offers great views of half dome from the valley and follows the river/creek (depending on the time of year you visit, this might be flowing vigorously or trickling slowly)
    Columbia Rock is a short hike up the Upper Yosemite Falls trail and offers your first incredible view of the valley. This hike is managable for most, but my be slippery and quite rocky. If this is not for you, number 3 should be much more suitable.
    Destination three is Glacier point which can be accessed in several different routes. The easiest for those who are not fit enough to hike the ~4000 ft. ascent from the valley, there is a parking lot at the top. If you choose to drive, you will find that parking may be difficult, but at the top there is also a gift shop, food, restrooms, and a wheelchair accessible ramp to most views. If you are more interested in solitude, I recommend hiking four mile trail at sunrise. This trail will most likely have nearly nobody on it before sunrise, so if you time it such that the sun comes up when you get to ~1 mile, you will get a great head start and not see anybody on the entire hike. Personally, I liked the overlook at mile 3 far more than I liked the glacier point overlook. I found glacier point to be too crowded by about 11AM, so be sure to arrive as early as possible if you do drive
    Bridal veil fall is a great destination for those looking to go on a quarter mile hike to see a waterfall that still flows in September (since the main Yosemite Fall does not)
    Mariposa Grove offers a totally different scenerey. I recommend taking the drive out to Mariposa Grove to see the giant sequoia trees in a peaceful grove with easy trails and beautifully untouched nature.
    Vernal Falls is a more intense hike that can also lead into Nevada Falls and later Half Dome (note: you do need a permit for half dome) Regardless of your hiking abilities, you should probably be able to handle one of these trails. If you are less experienced, a one mile hike to the foot bridge at the bottom of Vernal falls is a great place to see the massive waterfall (still flowing in September as well). If you are more capable of hiking higher, I recommend at least going to the top of Vernal Fall.
    Lower Yosemite Falls trail is another easy trail that is wheelchair accessible and only takes about 30 minutes to do. This gives you an incredible view of the waterfall if it is running, and an incredible view of a massive granite wall if it is not flowing.
    For a longer and more intense hike that is the most rewarding of these 8, I recommend taking the trek up to Yosemite point, or even to North Dome. I ventured just beyond Yosemite point and turned around at about mile 6 of my hike. This was an incredible view of the valley, the river, glacier point, the pinnacles, half dome, and more. Without a doubt, this was my favorite location. There are also very fewpeople at the top of this mountain, and those who are there are typically very quiet and respectful.

    Nice vid! I vacationed to Yosemite Valley every year from age 30 to 40 but always in the latter part of May when the Merced river and all the falls were rushing. The only hike I didn't do was El Capitan but I did summit Half Dome twice, a 16 mile round trip from the valley floor. I'm 75 now and reside in the state of Kansas but I sure do miss the place! Some of the best years of my life were spent there camping and hiking alone. :)

    FYI Glacier Point Road is closed to vehicles for repairs in 2022. But you can climb up the four mile trail to get there. Bridalveil Falls remains closed for refurbishing in 2022.

    This is a great, informative vid man! We have our trip planned for a month from now (remains to be seen whether we will actually be able to go) but I am still getting ramped up about it and starting to plan hikes. We are over 50 and looking for some good trails but not necessarily very strenuous, so this was a great resource for us!!! Thanks so much! Subbed!

    I've been creeping Yosemite vids for almost a week and this is by far the most informative and well thought of. What is the best place to fly in to if Yosemite is one of the main destinations for a vacation? And also, which is the best/closest city outside of Yosemite to rent an Airbnb if a camp site is unavailable? thank you so much for your help.

    • @OBRTravel
      @OBRTravel  4 года назад

      Fresno is probably the best airport (it is also known as Yosemite International) but San Francisco is usually cheaper. I definitely recommend trying as hard as possible to stay in the park. It is ~60-90 min drive in/out of the park

    • @runswithbeer

      Hi, we have had reservations for awhile at Bass Lake, but I just got flights last month for our trip mid-May of this year. Not sure if we can even go at this point, but I can tell you that flying RT from SFO is by far the cheapest. We are staying for a day/night in San Francisco, but then we are taking a train to Merced, and renting a car there for the drive to Bass Lake. We have 5 days there, but we are going to Yosemite and Kings Canyon during that time for at least two days and staying in Visalia overnight. We looked into staying at the park, but the Ahwahnee is very expensive, and we don't camp :) Yosemite Valley Lodge was less expensive by half, but the Wyndham in Visalia was even $100 less than their lowest rate. The VRBOs/AirBnBs in the area were ridiculously expensive, even more than the Ahwahnee. Hope that helps you some! I've been researching this trip for over a year so if you have any questions let me know!

    Without the bridge it would be impossible to get to Yosemite Point, etc. when Yosemite Creek is flowing in the spring. I'm sure the materials for the bridge and the equipment to build it were brought in by mules from the Old Tioga Road. For your information there are several similar bridges that cross creeks and rivers on the John Muir Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail and other trails in the High Sierra at sites much further from the road head that the top of Yosemite Falls.

    Hi...In the mid-eighties they replaced most of that bridge at the top of Upper Yosemite Falls. A friend and I spent the night up there and slept on the old bridge planks that were left scattered about after the renovation. It was nice to be off the ground because it poured rain all night. How hard is the Yosemite falls trail?

    • @OBRTravel
      @OBRTravel  4 года назад

      Hmm... well I am 24 yrs old and in pretty good physical shape. I am not a marathon runner, but I can run 8 miles or so, and I did the whole trail with no breaks. If you are in your 50s or are slightly overweight, it will probably require a few breaks. And if you are in your 60s or are obese, it will probably be very strenuous or not feasible at all. The good thing is you can just hike up to Columbia Rock first, and by then you will know if you can handle the rest of the trail. If the answer is no, you still got a great view and can hike back down :)

    awesome hikes. Hoping to be there in June
    I just had a hard time watching when "firehosing" with the camera or lack of "stabilized" camera . My eyes are jus getting old.

      Glad you liked the list! Sorry to hear that it was hard to watch. The camera is actually very stable, so maybe that was just a product of the frame rate. It is permanently mounted to a gimbal (DJI Osmo Pocket)

    Is it possible to smoke weed here ???

    • @OBRTravel
      @OBRTravel  4 года назад +5

      I don't recommend it. Smoking in parks smells bad and is disrespectful to nearby visitors looking to enjoy nature. If you're way up on the mountain and nobody is around however, I'm sure there will be nobody to notice

      @@OBRTravel yeah i wouldnt do it in areas full of people. Just wanted to make sure its possible in non populated areas. Dont wanna piss anyone off. Do they search you before entering ?
