    I hope somebody at Gigabyte will read this: Please create the z390 Waterforce motherboard again, and this time include the RAM to be water cooled also! So much work you guys put into the z390 Waterforce, and yet it would have been so effortless to design the RAM being water cooled also. I almost could not believe you guys skipped the RAM. Now your competitors are selling water cooling for RAM, yet you could have solved this easily, and sold us the complete cooling at once. I think this is very reasonable ask since you guys put the price of z390 Waterforce very high. OK :)

      it depends on the boiling point, many 3M Novec have boiling point of 49degC (649, 1230), while 7100 is 61degC, so it will be around that point max.

  • @natalieholeman146
    @natalieholeman146 2 года назад

    Very interesting. The units appear to be vertical. A 2U server tray is 4 inches tall (I believe the standard size for a unit is 2 inches tall). Are you shifting the way boards and cards are mounted? What is the 3M Novek engineered liquid?
    You are using a sealed tank for keeping it in such that it condenses which makes sense but what happens if the tank were opened for maintenance and there is a high vapor density? Is the 3M Novek safe to breath or are respirators required?
    Forgive a moment of tree hugging but I do worry about that, what is the toxicity from an environmental stand point? How must the liquid be disposed of in the event of a spill or in the future an even better cooling solution is developed or better liquid?
    How is the heat from the condensers removed? Does it just blow out? I believe I saw something about specs for your system included a 2200W power supply. That if fully utilized will generate 7500 BTU/hour of heat. The components will not bothered as the boiling and condensing (so you do not super-heat like a pressure cooker does with increasing pressure raising boiling point) but that heat must go someplace? Where does it go?
    I am very interested in the subject and find the technology as one that I am interested in. I just have these questions before going further.

    Personally this is a great idea and something I've been all about since like 2k. You guy should be working on combining this setup with a 400w+ phase change compressor for below 0C novec cooling.

    • @katt2002
      @katt2002 3 года назад

      this is not heat pump, basically just a big vapour chamber for whole system, there is no compressor involved (no moving part) but you still need condenser to cool the vapour to let it become liquid again. furthermore the chamber itself must be tightly sealed otherwise it will be released to the atmosphere.

    • @notsure1248
      @notsure1248 3 года назад

      @@katt2002 Yes I fully understand how novec cooling works. I was making a suggestion for taking the temps to near or subzero range. The biggest drawback with novec is the evaporation rate and cost of the novec. Last I checked it was still in the range of $500 per gallon. Yep novec hfe 7200 $520.20 for 1gal. Price hasn't changed in damn near 20 yrs.

    What about this technology in automobiles where engines are cooled using this technology..

    • @jannadrielcervo7753
      @jannadrielcervo7753 3 года назад

      Not applicable for automobiles, for ones using traditional internal combustion engines. Most automobile engines nowadays are liquid cooled, and the liquid it uses is either water or a mix of 50:50 water and coolant. This 3M Novec has a boiling temperature of 49°C or the other version of it boils at 70°C, not applicable for automobile engines cause automobile engines produces more heat, and water boils at a higher temperature of 100°C, with coolant it can boil at a higher temperature. So not applicable for gasoline or diesel engines. But probably applicable for the cars engine electronics, but it is not worth it, the costs of the 3M Novec doesn't justify to have a much better engine electronic cooling. Maybe for racing applications, but as far as I know, no one in Formula One uses this cooling for their electronics. As for electric vehicles, again it's the cost, it doesn't justify to have better cooling for the electronic inverters and other electronics of an electric car. It also is pointless to use as a cooling liquid for some electric cars that uses liquid cooled battery, cause it has a very low boiling point.

    I wonder how much weight does this generate? Water of course is impractical not only because it needs to be highly purely distilled.
    But because of it's weight distribution. This to me would be a great alternative for not only large data center applications.
    But imagine you could utilize this for deep space missions. If it doesn't require a lot of maintenance and swapping out of fluid than damn sign me up.
    Actually I'd be curious what kind of corrosive properties this has and how it compares to let's say Floridant FC-72 coolant.
    Eliminating the need for heat exchangers among other things would be a huge advantage. Gigabyte might have something more here than even they realize. :b

    • @MonMalthias
      @MonMalthias 4 года назад

      Convection and natural circulation like this only works in gravity. Without gravity you might get evaporation but there is no condensation dripping back down inside the cabinet. You would need some way to deliver the condensate back into the fluid volume. But convection itself would probably slow to a standstill in zero gravity, so the cooling will be much less efficient.
      In these cases you would instead have the cooled volume entirely filled with fluid, and the fluid would then be pumped through an expansion valve. This forces vapourisation and the heat is released for dissipation. Basically a fridge. The safety critical component in that case then becomes the pump.
