    I always ground the trailer lights through a ground wire all the way to trailer plug less likely to have issues with the lights!

    I had two discs blow up in my face one day, and decided eye protection wasn't overrated. a couple days later i was helping my friend work on his truck. Probably one of the first times actually using eye protection while using a grinder, and i had a cutting wheel break and hit me directly in the left testicle through a rip in the crotch of my work jeans, it was freezing cold, but i don't think i've ever sweat so bad in my life.

      Nathan C luckily no, just painfully sore and discolored for a month and a half, then tender for close to 2 months after that. It was scary haha I thought for sure it was mangled, I was just happy to see there was no blood.

    • @smokeybear390
      @smokeybear390 6 лет назад +1

      Nathan C I'd rather take a disc to the face with glasses three time than have that happen again. If I ever have to do a lot of grinding or cutting with a wheel, I'm investing in a cup, I'm not kidding.
      I was cutting the rear bumper off a truck which was stomach hieght so I was holding it there cutting away throwing Sparks between my legs not thinking, when the wheel exploded

    Sand the deck and put a new coat of linseed oil on it and a set of fenders! That tailor will look good then. Also wire up an LED strip to the very back of the trailor for break light so they can actually be seen by other drivers. Other than that, kick ass!

    Taylor, there's a lot of comments on here telling you to use a guard and everyone is 100% right, grinders are supplied with guards and a handle, there's s reason for this. Your so so lucky it didn't imbed in your face, arm or neck! All I wanna say is stand out from the rest of the youtubers using grinders now days and use a guard, you got lucky this time I would wanna risk it again.
    Love you videos, keep up the good work.

      Scout: You mean that only DEAD men, STUPID men, and NAIVE men use a grinder without a guard. Picture in your mind a piece of that wheel shrapnel slicing through your jugular at high speed. The damage would be done before you could even blink. As you lay dying on the ground, you can also imagine what a MAN you were, and WORM FOOD you're going to be.

    • @ScreamingAirborne
      @ScreamingAirborne 5 лет назад

      Exactly man, I laugh at all the guys who think they’re tough shit because they don’t use a guard and handle and rely on their “common sense” or “brain”. Yeah you’re not going to have either of those once your rotting 6 feet in the ground.

      Alot of these comments are getting really annoying I would be willing to invite all of you to my job put a guard on my grinder and see if you can get my job done it's easier faster and you just can get more done without that guard in the way you just have to be smart enough to use it

    Proper PPE, guards and face-shields are a must. Cutoff wheels are notorious for blowing to pieces when bound up - has legit killed people before. Deal with the sweaty brow and cumbersome shields and save yourself...literally

    • @DerekGraham777
      @DerekGraham777 5 лет назад

      Iv gone threw like a thousand of cut off only had one blow apart it was because i was a noob and twisted the wheel they have never killed anyone ya cut you open good but never killed.

    • @XxSpyd1gg3RxX
      @XxSpyd1gg3RxX 5 лет назад

      This is the most dangerous thing I have ever seen someone do. Yes a cutting disc can for no reason blow apart and that disc is spinning at 6000rpm + if a pice broke that's about the size of your finger nail and hit you in the eye or face it can seriously injure you, if your using a 9inch angle grinder without a guard then your asking for a pice the size of your hand to stick into your skull. And yes people have died from them. Not having a guard on one of them is your risking your life. Can't believe people are so stupid.

    I've built a number of trailers myself and turning any pile of scrap metal or poorly built junk pile project of someone else into something practical and user friendly usefull is always satisfying.
    The first one I ever made was made from a old cultivator frame that I turned into a 6' x13' 6000# single axle flatbed some 20+ years ago. Still use it regularly.
    Another one is a 8' x 20' 12K # flatbed I made from some 100+ year old riveted bridge frame iron. My #1 usage trailer now.
    Also turned a old 14' x 70' trailer house frame into a 8' x 30' 18k # flatbed for a buddy of mine who uses that all the time too.
    Beyond that I have made a number of other trailers out of other odd scrap iron and rebuilt several other peoples poorly done DIY attempts into decent reliable and safe to use rigs too.

    Dope! This past week I picked up a 10k lb car hauler that needs a bit of TLC as well. New tires, fenders, lights, replacing old hydraulic brakes with new electric ones, 7 way wiring all the way back, spring and hanger bushings replaced, maybe even a receiver tube on the deck to attach a winch in the future. I didn't even think to video it as one of my projects, but yours was good so maybe I should since i'm only half way in. Glad yours came out well

    Taylor - great real world application for your new skill, it's always so satisfying when you learn something new as you open up a whole new world of ways to fix things. Just one tip that I thought I'd share, when you were welding the ramp stays you had your resting hand leaning against the trailer which is probably comfortable but as you want to move it it'll skip over the surface and screw the weld up, it's always best to have your elbow relaxed leaning on the surface but allowing your arm (with your other welding arm resting on the relaxed arm) free to move if need be for longer welds like this - you'll feel uncomfortable doing it at first but once you get used to it, it'll be a night and day difference!

      LoL... if you're wearing a pair of sunglass style safety glasses and your mom's pruning gloves then yes...if you're wearing your full face hood between welding and your heavy welding gloves the disintegrating disc will do very little .Guards are for folks who aren't smart enough to even understand how to hold the tool based on the wheels direction of rotation so they don't cut themselves.

  • @charleskozak4102

      That's complete BS I was welding on my truck with an arc welder didn't have the battery is disconnected and it fried my starter ever since then always disconnected batteries

    • @mrmidnight32
      @mrmidnight32 5 лет назад

      juuurrrt no it’s fucking not. Clearly you’ve never welded on vehicles lmao
      Even if you understood basic welding or how electricity works you’d know it’s not a myth. You’re shoving massive amounts of amps and voltage through metal conductive parts and wires rated at 5amps max in some cases. It’s sure as fuck going to fry or burn parts

    might think about a guard for the grinder, so many of the Americans don't seem to have them.
    Long sleeves for welding too to save your skin from burning.

    i just rebuilt my car hauler trlr, fenders are 72in x 11in with 12in inner skirt. then mount trlr lights at back of fender or weld 2x2ln angle iron from frame to rear edge of fender, do same for front. mount trlr lights at back of trlr so both sides can be seen at same time looks good still a ways to go

  • @u15GummiBear
    @u15GummiBear 6 лет назад

    Nice job overall. You did a bunch to make an OK trailer even better to suit your needs.
    A few things I would do a little differently:
    The ramp retainers - I would have rounded all the edges and corners, just because at some point you may get in a hurry, and slicing open your hand on those will make you cuss.
    The electrical -
    Not sure if your light enclosures have a ground stud in them, if not, welding in a stud is a real time saver.
    Pull a full length ground from the connector all the way to each light and trailer brake connection. Bond them to the trailer at these locations. It seems that most trailer electrical problems are almost always ground related. You can never have too much of a ground.
    I tack in conduit for my wiring to run in to prevent as much rodent and weather damage as possible. It's a bummer to hook up to your trailer just to find out a field mouse had a snack of your wiring, and now you're rewiring the trailer when you should be loading up for a trip.
    Fenders - Even though your home state may not require them, they're still a good idea. If your car doesn't fit with them on, you may want to sell this one, and buy another trailer. Some states will ticket you for no fenders, not sure if you ever travel out of state, but something to consider.

    @04:23, cant u just take that cupped backing plate and put it kn backwards, so the cupped side faces the grinder instead of facing the cutting disck, that would iliminate the flex on cuting disk while tightening the retaining nut.
