A buddy of mine just fixed this for me on my Corolla. I had been driving around with that rattle noise for over a year and had no idea what it was and he knew as soon as he heard it.
After being on the car for 22 years in a salt using state, there was no easy removal. A Harbor Freight grinder worked well in cutting through the nut and shoulder, making the job relatively simple.
You are very lucky to get that to come off so easily, here in the UK it rains most of the year and salt is used on the throughout the winter. After 10 years the internal hex is is toast and the Allen key rounds off instantly, then a world of pain ensues
The one of corolla 2002 is similar to this truth? I have one and I put them the same as I had them, on the left side that is, the pilot, the nut and the bolt towards the front but I see that yours has it backwards, I changed them and they were destroyed again.
Now u should make a video about the whole system... suspension, joints everything that has to do with whats in between the tires and the car!!!! Thanks
@ hardly moving productions hi I wanted to know if after you changed the stabilizer bar links the rattling noise go away ? And when you was driving in the old links the rattle noise was when you was braking or accelerating ? Thank you .
@@hardlymovingpro ok I think I have the same issues in my MDX but I heard the ratting noise the most when I go from high speed to low speed when braking . Thank you for your respond .
How loose is too loose? As you say in time they loosen. In my 2008 Lexus IS250 you could move it a little bit but you need to do it by force. Like it takes a little bit of effort to get movement. I know if it’s very very loose it needs to go ASAP. Replacement.
@@hardlymovingpro I hear no rattling noises at all. I think my front control arm bushing is kinda bad because the edge of the tire , inner edge is kinda showing less tread.
@@KingDrewPhilip inside tread wear is by Lexus design to keep tire from riding on the edge during hard turns. Only solution is to install adjustable camber upper ball joints or rotate tires from the left wheel rim to the right wheel.
@@hardlymovingpro thanks for that advice. Lots of Lexus IS owners see this balding on the inside front tires. So it’s like that by Lexus design intentionally ? I just don’t want them to be so bald that the wire underneath shows and it pops. But I check my tires regularly so I will notice the moment this happens, if it does happen.
@@hardlymovingpro ok thanks. Working on a 99 Corolla and has a rattle whenever there's a bump. Changed strut assembly, tie rods because they were bad.. but still rattles. Other than sway bar links, is there anything else I should look at? Thanks again
Yeah...of course my hex nut stripped (2006 corolla). I was able to heat the nut with a torch (while trying to keep the rubber boot cool) and get enough of the hex to bite while I inched the nut off...NOT FUN!!!
@@hardlymovingpro I was just reading that some 93-97 models have them and some don’t. Mine being a 95 base model doesn’t have one. I didn’t know that until I replaced my rear links and looked for front ones found out didn’t have it. Though I think the control arms must be aftermarket because they have the holes to put the links.
Dude I was with you until you pulled it through by winding the nut, almost dragging the ball joint from its socket. Also, you don't torque down end links when the suspension is drooping
Yes ... you can torque down the links with the suspension drooping if you want. The link ball will rotate in the link connection socket. Just cut the dust boot off an old link and you'll see.

Thanks for sharing story!
Nice video, simple and straight forward, the camera man did a great job. Thanks for sharing
Thanks!

I hear you. Great not living in the rust belt.
When you grinded it was the sway bar itself threaded? I have one stuck and can’t tell if I can pop it out or have to drill it out

Been there. I use a high speed rotary cut off tool or a reciprocating saw to cut it off.
Short and sweet! Thank you!
You're welcome!

@@hanselldisla4643 no problem. Stabilizer bar links are usually the first items I suspect with suspension noise.

Loose to the point where you hear rattling noise emanating from the suspension

Basically the engineers sacrificed tires to optimize handling.
Don't forget the sway bar bushings...
Good point. When the links are detached from the sway bar, push and pull on the bar. If it doesn't move, the bushings are okay.
And how to change the two rubber for the stabiliser?
If the stabilizer bar doesn't move through the bushings with much free play, it doesn't need replacement.
Very useful video 👍
Glad you liked it!
'torque everything down'
Proceeds to impact everything

Thanks so much!!! V. Helpful!!!

Looks like front brakes next 😁
Yup ... the customer asked me to replace the pads as well.
Thank you!
You bet!
Torque specs? What torque specs? Impact go ugga dugga
You got it!
Did this take care of the suspension noise?
For that time frame.

What year of the car ????????
I think it was a 2003.
Did the same thing, new struts just to hear the same noise not as loud as before. But still annoying
