    Wonderful. This area is very special to me. From a young age my dad would take me walking and camping around this part of the South Downs. My passion for the outdoors was born in those very hills. Lovely video. Thanks for sharing.

    Many moons ago, I lived at Brambridge near Colden Common and although for the most part I worked in Southampton, I did eventually end up working in Winchester, which is such a beautiful city. I used to spend many hours wandering around the south east of there and also sat on St Catherine's hill watching the steam trains running through to Newbury and beyond. The whole area has many fascinating corners and water meadows, places to spend an hour or two with a camera to record the passage of time hand in hand with all of natures wonderful things. I always enjoyed history, the local history mainly, in those days and still do, but in a totally new area for the past 50 years or so. Your videos are like a breath of fresh air, Jim, they revive long forgotten memories and this makes life more exciting. Well, I'll leave you to your huge flock of crows, thanks for sharing. Take care...

    • @JimHolden

      As i wandered through the woods as it was getting dark the crows were so noisy, really unsettled me, i felt there presence and i knew they were getting bothered by me so got out, man i couldn't believe how many took off, so glad i didn't camp there choosing the opposite hill instead. Hampshire is so beautiful full of villages and woodlands and yes full of history, the more i researched i couldn't believe it, i was always aware that Winchester used to be England's capital i think we covered that at school but why and when it moved to London was unknown so enjoyed reading up on it,

    I've just found your channel Jim and subscribed. Really enjoying your films. I love Old Winchester Hill. I live quite local to it myself and filmed my ramble and cookout there a couple of months ago. It's one of my go to places to chill out for a few hours. I think we might live in the same city.

    Jim, enjoyed the walk, on the 26 we were in northern Wales, that night it blew and rained but cleared enough to get in a good hike towards Snowden. A week later we would be in Winchester, looking to return to that southern country. Thanks again fot the video!!

    Great video, walked the South Downs Way last year, you'll find that there are plenty of taps provided on the route, unlike many other walks. Watch out for the mixy rabbits though.

    • @JimHolden
      @JimHolden  8 лет назад

      Thank's Mark, the only thing is you have to come down for the water, or am i wrong, are there tap's actually on the ridge? I did the south Dorset Ridgeway last month and it was day three before i came across water so used the cattle butt's on that walk. Did you film your SDW walk Mark?

    • @markpreston629
      @markpreston629 8 лет назад

      You do drop down off the ridge occasionally and as I remember there is a water tap on a daily basis. But yes they are on the SDW route. I've only started filming my stuff this year (Last Christmas actually ) but if you do take water from a drinking trough, open the box and take it from the water inlet, if there's pressure it's mains water, if not use some chlorine drops to make it good.

      Cheer's Mark that's what i do, my sister live's on a farm in Cornwall and iv'e helped her husband do work on them so i only take from the main's supplied one's. ATB for 2017.

    Nice one mate. Enjoyed the insight in to your gear. I live down the road from there and I've never been, I will go and check it out for sure. Sometimes I find your music can be a bit melancholy, which I don't mind because it's always nice music, but this episode it was a bit more upbeat.

    • @JimHolden
      @JimHolden  8 лет назад

      Thank's Ted, i thought of you whilst doing the gear review, my kit is simple really that's why i don't review it much. The music choice is a bit tricky because of copyright law's so it's limited to what you can use, i try to find something to match the visual's. Solo in an atmospheric landscape can be a bit melancholy but i kinda like that. ATB Jim.

    Winchester Hill, local you say, that's not at all a Hampshire accent, I guess you live here down south now then. Fine scenery there, I do a bit of trout fishing that way from time to time, the Itchen, and have done bits and pieces of the South Downs Way. Am off to Lulworth again in a few weeks, will finally get to visit Tynham this time, after watching your wild camp vid from there I had to check it out, first time I went earlier this year the village was out of bounds, the firing range, this time I'm OK though. Thanks mate.

      I moved to Portsmouth in 79 when i was 17 my mum is from here, my accent has never changed. Looking forward to doing the South Down's Way next year, i had planned to do it this year but run out of time, need longer day's i think as it's a big walk. Tynham and the Dorset coast line is somewhere i will visit again love that area. Hope you enjoy your visit James, thank's for watching and your comment. ATB Jim.

      I lived in Portsmouth for a year a while back, ( I'm from London and I'm back here now ), a little place called Beck Street which is just off of Queens Street not far up from the harbour. I go back here and there, weekends there in Portsmouth and/or Hayling Island, and little trips to the Isle Of Wight also. Like The Still And West at the harbour entrance there, great place to sit and enjoy a pint when the weathers good, watching the boats go in and out of the harbour, ah yeah!!! Thanks again Jim mate and all the best to you too.
