The wife is a pain in the butt. Demanding, emotionally abusive and manipulative, and ready to believe the worst about her husband. She's suffocating and insufferable.

Given the fact that Leslie Mann's husband (Judd Apatow) is the director of the movie, the question arises: is the Paul Rudd character actually a modified version of Judd Apatow?
I don't think a man as successful and influential in Hollywood as Judd Apatow would have stayed with Leslie Mann if she was ANYTHING like this shrew Debbie. Leslie Mann is probably the polar opposite of Debbie: Kind, considerate, understanding, willing to accommodate and compromise without fighting.
I never realised that but it makes sense especially when you think about this is 40 or whatever the sequel spin-off was called. The fact that his real child is in the movie.
I like that the movie really puts the onus on both of them. Pete should not be lying and going being his wife’s back and Debbie really shouldn’t be overbearing and short fused. Even though it’s a movie it shows how issues are just out in the forefront when you don’t communicate to your partner openly and without hostilities.
He is doing those things because she is overbearing and short fused. Frankly, if he has to do those things he is just better off without her. He would have had to know she was like that before the kids came.
And she's got some nerve being so short fused when, at this point in their lives, HE IS THE ONE bringing home all the bacon and paying for all the beautiful things they have!!!! What a horrid and ungrateful woman.
Also, wasn't she out clubbing husbandless (enough to get in without a wait and know bartenders/staff by name and they know her) with her friend in skimpy dresses dancing and flirting with random guys at the start of the movie which was only a few months prior to this point in the movie?
@@darren871 I have a feeling Leslie Mann, this actress, is almost the POLAR opposite of Debbie IRL. Their total lack of romantic chemistry made the movie so much funnier. Because there's absolutely no way to see how these 2 ever connected in the first place.
“Want” implies there’s room for discussion. I use the term “need” and it’s honored by the wife because she knows I mean it, considering I ask for so little.
Trust me. After finding a good woman that understands this, you won’t think a second longer about the ones who rejected you or couldn’t respect you for wanting alone time.
@@ASMRyouVEGANyet she was the liar and irresponsible one, this scene is supposed to be a joke about the woman being a hypocrite, but for some reason people don't understand that and assume the guy is the one wrong here
Maybe you should just tell her you're going to the fantasy baseball draft. I'm not sure how you're managing to see Spiderman 3 in theaters every year, though.
This scene is funny. But the fact that a not-insignificant number of women think she’s fully in the right is absolutely terrifying. How on earth is having fun with friends “worse” than cheating? Sure, Pete probably should’ve sent a quick text about where he was and what he was doing, but with how insanely controlling she is I honestly don’t blame him. Her vibes just scream “I’m upset that you WEREN’T cheating on me so my anger is unjustified” or “I’m upset that you’re having fun without me.” And this is before getting into the fact that she goes to clubs and flirts with other guys without his knowledge… multiple times.
I've found that lying is the best way to keep yourself and your relationship happy. The longer you are in a relationship, the more a woman tends to guilt trip you for wanting to spend time alone. It still blows my mind how you just can't be honest about wanting to go to the movies by yourself, or just have one day where you binge video games and movies by yourself. Even if they say they are cool with it, you can definitely sense it in the air that it's not. Just lie and no one gets hurt.
Pete shouldn’t have to lie about being able to do things on his own, I’ve seen couples who are extremely attached it’s weird to go on a fishing trip and the girl has to come and the group just accepts it, overly attached relationships are weird in a sense that if one does not have the other they seem off or have no identity of their own because of fear of offending their partner. Both here are wrong but time apart from one another can be healthy if done correctly and not a form of avoidance.
Yep. Women become very co dependent. A husband couldn't go on a fishing trip for a weekend. The wife would ask why they don't do anything when the whole family just spent a whole week at Disney Land. She can go somewhere for a weekend and he just shrugs.
Considering she herself goes out and does things without him is pretty hypocritical. And she goes out to clubs and flirts with other guys. Yet what he's doing is worse than cheating.
I relate to this in a parental relationship way, not a romance one. Where you try to explain something to one of them and then they make it this big monster in their head.
@@s.marshian8455 seems like this is probably someone younger. But once you live with someone then this makes all the sense in the world. Parental relationship isn’t quite the same, for what this scene is trying to represent.
For all the women who wonder why men struggle with being honest, it's often just because so many of you have a tendency to overreact over things like this, when in fact there are abusive people out there who cheat and hurt their significant others. She would have fought him to the death if he straight up told her he just wanted to go do something for himself or she would have accused him of cheating anyway.
I FOUND THIS funny when I first saw this, but now I realize how accurate the ending of the clip is. It’s not funny when you find yourself in a similar situation
This is an example of a selfish spouse who doesn’t trust her husband and doesn’t allow him to have sometime to himself. Whereas she is out clubbing with her sister and flirting with other men yeah the double standards are real life.
I realized after I got married and had kids is that wives do not like to see husbands content. I literally could have just finished mowing the lawn and hanging up my clothes and decide to play my game for a couple of hours after finishing choirs, and my wife would start nagging about how it’s not fair how I’m having so much time to myself and she doesn’t get to have that. Like lady I just did all the choirs and watched the kids while you would go to the grocery store. And don’t get me started on football season 😩
This movie did a great job giving the characters believable interpersonal problems. Not saying the problems are justifiable or reasonable, just that they are relatable to the types of interpersonal problems real people have, which is somewhat rare in movies. The main "problem" that the movie centers around - an unplanned pregnancy - is one of the most unrelatable problems, but even that is pretty relatable for a lot of people.

Glad Seth revisited the “hit u in the 😼 on ur way out” line 🎉
This shows that even with the perfect life
There are still little moments like these where you don’t even know why you’re hurt
The wife obviously wants more romance in her life and the husband wants some more alone time
They just both don’t know how to express there emotions
The wife is a pain in the butt. Demanding, emotionally abusive and manipulative, and ready to believe the worst about her husband. She's suffocating and insufferable.
Classic example of a miserable hate filled woman blaming a man for her problems while he tries to seek sanctuary and sanity.
Classic case of a woman determined to be mad at something even though she was wrong in the first place.
He was lying behind her back. Yet somehow she's the villain... classic misogyny
@@ASMRyouVEGANyeto, its the constant nagging she does, when she is with him. Constantly bringing him down, attacking and bickering. It’s also the constant hypocrisy on her part, going out to the bars dancing with random guys. He enjoys being alone on his own time, because of that. When she finds out he is literally just going to see Spider-Man 3 and a fantasy league with his male friends.. NOT cheating, then he’s still the villain. 😂 if that’s misogyny, then you have about as many brain cells as a worm.
@@ASMRyouVEGANyet No, it is a double standard. She was lying to him, as well.
@@ASMRyouVEGANyetshe also had time to herself throughout the film. She’s just selfish and the sequel proved it
@@ASMRyouVEGANyet L. Eat some meat the vegan diet is rotting your brain.
Given the fact that Leslie Mann's husband (Judd Apatow) is the director of the movie, the question arises: is the Paul Rudd character actually a modified version of Judd Apatow?
Now I know how she keeps getting roles in movies
I don't think a man as successful and influential in Hollywood as Judd Apatow would have stayed with Leslie Mann if she was ANYTHING like this shrew Debbie. Leslie Mann is probably the polar opposite of Debbie: Kind, considerate, understanding, willing to accommodate and compromise without fighting.
@@CheerfullyCynical829 well he did say modified. Probably over dramatized to make it entertaining. But probably did have some sort of issue similar.
I never realised that but it makes sense especially when you think about this is 40 or whatever the sequel spin-off was called. The fact that his real child is in the movie.
Yes
"I need to keep my sanity a little bit" and she just puts on the waterworks for herself, she wonders why he kept a fantasy league meet a secret
Love the spider man 3 theme in this movie
If she was anything like Debbie, a rich and influential Hollywood bigshot like Judd Apatow would never stay married to her and take this toxic abuse. I bet Leslie Mann is sweet, willing to compromise, and soft-spoken in real life.
@@CheerfullyCynical829 So because a man makes the money in a marriage, that gives him the right to treat his wife terribly, and she should just take it and be grateful?
Dude that is the most unreasonable woman ever. Time for myself too... Lady you went to the club and continue to kick it with your friend throughout this film, how tf are you not getting "time to yourself"? And then you say that him hanging with friends is worse than cheating!? That's the funniest part out of this whole movie is how ridiculous she was being. 😂
"I wouldn't be mad. I don't get mad" lol..
This movie is way more serious than it needed to be lol
That's Judd Apatow movies in a nutshell
Every line she delivers is knocked out the park
1:00 "PETE!!!" 😂🤣
Women hate when men have any fun or hobbies without them
Their total lack of romantic chemistry made the movie so much funnier.
Because there's absolutely no way to see how these 2 ever connected in the first place.
Maybe their marriage was arranged 😂 jking
Well seeing that she had a proclivity for the club scene and he is very simliar to Ben, they probably met there...
There is LITERALLY no good way to have a conversation with your girlfriend/spouse about wanting more time to yourself. 🤣🤣
Be a man. Say it. If she fights you about it, take it anyway.
@@alohasnackbar7622
Oh just like that huh, gee why didn't I think of that?! 🤣🤣
@@JustSomeCanadianGuy That dude ain’t married and if he is, it’s not lasting haha
It doesnt matter if he lied or not, she'll turn it somehow to her being a victim and him having to apologize. Just like she did.
She definitely came into this situation looking for a fight.
Really? I thought she wanted to watch Spiderman
so what did you kick him out the house for?
he was playing a fantasy baseball league behind my back!
what?
Yeah she is nuts
She had had it with his lying snd irresponsible behavior.
@@ASMRyouVEGANyet She is a hormonal hypocrite.
@@ASMRyouVEGANyet she was the liar and irresponsible one, this scene is supposed to be a joke about the woman being a hypocrite, but for some reason people don't understand that and assume the guy is the one wrong here
She played possibly the most detestable shrew in the history of cinema.
she just unintentionally proved his point when she was like
"this is worse than cheating..."
like, be so SERIOUS right now.
Oh geez it's so typical the guy is supposed to read her mind lol
"I don't want you at the house that you pay for anymore" lol
1:00 Seth character here is how mandem should be Look after one another 💯😂
*Cough* PETE *cough*
Yet if it was the other way around, "OMG, I just wanted to go to the club with my girls and flirt with random drunk guys, you're smothering me!"
Literally have this exact conversation with my wife every year
Then you guys need counseling or a divorce. Living like that isn't healthy
Then you need counseling.
Maybe you should just tell her you're going to the fantasy baseball draft. I'm not sure how you're managing to see Spiderman 3 in theaters every year, though.
This is giving me ptsd , 😂😂
“🥺 I like Spider-Man.” 😂😂😂😂
The important thing here is that the man changes. Always the man’s fault. God forbid this man want to get away for a few hours
She only went to the club once. He called her home early.
I totally understand why Pete needed to get away this woman is INSUFFERABLE!!!
the “i don’t want to have to ask you to ask me, i want you to come up with it on your own” line hits hard fr
Does it?? Do you even talk to girls?
@@MrJimShortsdo you?!
@@MrJimShorts clearly you don't🥱
“She doesn’t have a gun, does she?”
“No……I don’t think so…”
I've found that lying is the best way to keep yourself and your relationship happy.
Typical. She doesn't catch him cheating, so fetches a reason to boot him from the house anyway.
Always nice to come back here and get a refresher to never get married
This scene makes me not wanna get married
How is this worse? Fantasy Baseball is worse than cheating? I think she can’t digest the fact that he is having fun without her.
They never can.
Being overly attached is bad. Imagine if you broke up or had a divorce or even died then one person may be significantly impacted mentally
Or maybe they just genuinely like spending time with one another
@@rp4712 happens all the time specially with death. It’s obviously a great impact, but some people literally have no idea what to do/how to go on.
She asked him to be honest then called him mean lol smh
I relate to this in a parental relationship way, not a romance one. Where you try to explain something to one of them and then they make it this big monster in their head.
That's right.
Why not romance? People need their space even in a relationship.
@@s.marshian8455 seems like this is probably someone younger. But once you live with someone then this makes all the sense in the world. Parental relationship isn’t quite the same, for what this scene is trying to represent.
It's the same thing either way
“We said no wives” is literally me and my friends 😂
He needs to be honest, and she needs to be not crazy.
🤦♂️ make a man feel guilty for nothing.
Understanding where she is coming from in this scene is a part of growing up and being an adult. And I’m a guy who 100% relates to Pete.
Woman hate seeing men happy
For all the women who wonder why men struggle with being honest, it's often just because so many of you have a tendency to overreact over things like this, when in fact there are abusive people out there who cheat and hurt their significant others. She would have fought him to the death if he straight up told her he just wanted to go do something for himself or she would have accused him of cheating anyway.
You see how all the rest of the lights are off, because it’s all men in the house. Only light the room you are in.
I FOUND THIS funny when I first saw this, but now I realize how accurate the ending of the clip is. It’s not funny when you find yourself in a similar situation
Why is she so unreasonable and self centred?
Because she's a female.
I don’t want you at the house anymore - ok chick, if you even dare to say this over fantasy baseball then it’s completely over
This is an example of a selfish spouse who doesn’t trust her husband and doesn’t allow him to have sometime to himself. Whereas she is out clubbing with her sister and flirting with other men yeah the double standards are real life.
Don't you understand Rom Coms? Men are morons and the women fix them in the end. I love you how you are honey, but oh he magically gets a better job.
You just married the wrong person I’m afraid.
Sounds like you married the wrong person and now you're bitter
I would hate being married to her.
Id probably off myself the next day because this is mental abuse
Why because she's asking him for support on helping take care of the kids they had together? 🥱🤨
My parents never understood why at 47 I never married, had kids, had a relationship of any kind. This is why.
Paul Rudd is the common dude spirit in all these movies.
A+ movie. Script and acting were great.
I love this movie so much I keep coming back to it
Women make it so tough to work out things, at 3:49 she is covering up her insecurities by kicking him out... how this will help their relationship?
Extremely funny scene 🤣
Debbie is the original Karen
Man has a hobby and gets hated for it.
I think he’s getting hated because he’s lying to his wife
@@slammin2445 if his wife wasn't a liar and manipulator, something that this scene is supposed to portray, and clearly demonstrate, then it would have been fine
Great scene and thats most couples …..and a reason so many of my friends end up divorced once the kids are grown
This is such a great sequence. It feels real and it will hit you different when you at least 30 something.
Is Rudd and Mann play the same couple in This is 40?
Same characters and is somewhat a sequel/spinoff of this movie
I’m generally sad that I’ve never been married, but then I see these type of scenes and realize why I haven’t and never will. I’m too broken for it
Brown town has the best team. Ichiro on his team he wins the hits category Automatically.
“If your gonna get caught cheating it shouldn’t be like this” 💀

Unfortunately sometimes you find out after the fact, not before... Choose wisely...
So true
As I got older I understood and sympathized with Rudd’s character more and more. The gaslighting by wives is horrible. But don’t you see say anything about their shoes or make up on the bathroom counter.
If I were him I wouldn’t want to go home either.
If you were him, he would be gay and would have no use for his wife at home.
"I don't want you at the house anymore, ok?" YES ! 🥳
