One trick with MREs I learned was to field strip the place the items back in the bag the wrap the bag around itself the tape it off. It reduced the build by 50% or more and still leaves you with a bag for “various” purposes.
Appreciate everything you do. I have generous respect for veterans that stay true to sweet liberty even after they leave the military. You sir are no paycheck Patriot.
I just found this channel and it seems to be fundamentally sound combat training. Impressive. A humble suggestion from a veteran. It’s all about the drones. Low cost, quality video images, day or night. Quickly deployed from a backpack for a high in the shy look or a quick treetop peek. There is no substitute for real time intelligence. They that master the drone......will master the field.
Thanks, the Marine Corps is integrating drones into the flight. We have small man portable drones integrated at the squad and Plt level. They're helpful. However, don't fall into the trap that this impressive new technology is the end all be all. We have jammers, man portable ones too (We've been using since the Iraq and Afghanistan wars to block signals for radio detonated IEDs). Drones can and are jammed. One that happens they are nothing more then a rock falling out of the sky. Ifs its something that runs on batteries or radio signal it can fail. In the end, unless a Marine with a rifle occupying the ground, you haven't taken shit from the enemy.
I have all of your videos saved to my playlist so I can use them to teach my Militia battalion exactly how certain situations are handled & carried out!! Great knowledge in these videos!! Most things my battalion already knows firsthand but other lessons are extremely valuable to see them played out on video!!
Outstanding! Mission first. When I was in the Marine Corps Corps it's suprising how much extra non-essential gear guys bring. As you said "pounds equal pain." Love the vids!! Semper Fi
The one thing that always surprises me is seeing the different operational Styles between two different countries for example in Australia where I am from it is the job of the lance corporal to do all the pre battle checks excluding the radio operator (sig) he's in charge of the radio didn't his responsibility to make sure he has everything to maintain and operate it probably but his personal gear that he will be taking on the mission will be inspected by the lance corporal
@@Brent0331 yes the Lance Corporal is considered a nco he is also the Second in Command of a section and he commands one group of it in a contact situation cheers.

These videos are golden ! I am a civilian but I often go alone in the mountains and discipline and a systemic approach as shown here are key to never being unprepared.Awesome content !
Real good video I served thirty years in the United States Army almost twenty in the Ranger Regiment.I retired in 2010. I retired a Sergeant Major. I remember as a E-5 squad leader checking the men find it empty canteess. Young soldier idiots. I retired in 2010 . My first deployment was Greneda in 1983 with the 82nd I forget what regiment. We were always busy training or deployed especially after 9/11 9/13 we were there.. To much time away from my Wife and kids. Then the initial invasion of Iraq. Our Battalion jumped into Iraq to take a dam rumor was Saddam was going to open the locks and flood Baghdad. That would have been a two year mess. We did work with Marines more with Seals. Common goal. ( SUA SPONTE) SEMPER FI
Excellent vids. No frills Leaders Guide. 25 Yr Infantry Vet speaking. Recommend this to ANY combat Leader time spent on the revision of basic skills is never wasted.
Been there, done that. (7th ID, out in '76) Those who have never served still need to know these things, and I, for one, thank you for helping to prepare many of those "newbies" who have been busy emptying the gun store shelves to deal with situations they may not be familiar with. God bless you and yours!
I have seen people cut a toothbrush in half to save weight. 😁 You need to keep an eye on people trimming Ration Packs ensure they don't throw away needed items just to load more of their favourites leading to less than full nutrition over time.
OUTSTANDING VIDEO! I know a poolee or two that is going to get these videos strongly recommended to them. The information contained is about to be the central focus of their life, best study it well now to gain an advantage later!

Hi Brent, from a former Australian Army grunt aka ozzygrunt, this vlog brings back a lot of fond memories for me. You’ve struck everything that the Australian infantry soldiers carry out when ever on exercise or operations. Thank you
Awesome video brother. I was in the infantry from 1979 to 1983. 2nd 87th 8 infantry division. Pathfinders. Best job I ever had! Once a soldier always a soldier. God bless brother keep up the awesome videos.🇺🇸

Thanks for the video. It's been over twenty years since I did a per-combat check for real and I'm glad to say I only missed one thing. Great video, keep them coming!
This is awesome as a retiring US Army CPT and previous Sergeant that has been in now 24 years. This is a dying art form with the new troops coming in however we've been doing counterinsurgency for so long we forgot these type of tactics. As Future Leaders it is imperative that they learn all of these lessons learned to do peer or near peer combat operation.
I've watched this video so many times and I'll probably watch it many more, I love going over gear, placement and usage and that was even before becoming 11B. Keep up the great work.
Great video here Brent! I know about that wet and cold part thanks to mother nature. We had none of the warm layers or gortex when I was in but sure could've used it.
@@Brent0331 80 - 84 I was infantry and all we were issued was a poncho and rubber boots like the kind you got when you were a kid that slipped on over your boots. For cold weather we had wool pants and a wool shirt as well as you field jacket and liner poncho liner wool inserts for your leather gloves. I'd kill for the issue the modern military gets.
I just cannot love this enough. As a signal corps recruit that went through Benning I just.... omg I like this channel. Thank you so much for this common sense shit. Warrior tasks and drills are paramount to soldier mission readiness.
As a writer doing military research for a project, I want to cordially thank you. This information is...invaluable. Sorry if it's a dumb question, I'm sure there's a good reason, but I can't think of it, so...I'm curious and I'm asking. Respectfully, one thing I did not quite understand is the point you made at 3:06 - about the importance of how the enemy perceives you, especially if they're insurgents hiding among civilians. Let me explain: I've seen Everyday Marksman's videos with you, and you mentioned something similar being the case with civilians. That if you look like a soft target, like you don't know what you're doing, you're gonna attract the attention of potential attackers, because it's the principle of the path of least resistance - why attack someone who looks like a force to be reckoned with, when you can attack someone who looks like they're easy pickings? It's logical, and it makes perfect sense in a civilian setting, but I don't see how it applies in a military setting. Pardon me if I sound ignorant, but isn't one of the USMC's jobs to terminate insurgents with extreme prejudice? Like, you're Marines, those are insurgents, enemy combatants, you are enemies, a fight is inevitable and someone is going to die, so why does it matter if they attack one group of Marines (because they look undisciplined, unprofessional and lax) and not another (because those look prepared, professional and focused), when they'll eventually have to fight the professional guys too, since their ultimate goal is to drive the US military from their lands? In fact, wouldn't you want them to attack you by looking less professional and focused than you actually are, causing them to underestimate you? Especially when I've heard rumors of Russian Spetsnaz in the Middle East doing things to actively threaten, antagonize and provoke lSlS, such as burning Qur'аns and sending them body parts of dead members in boxes, like they're the friggin' Sicilian Mafia. Basically, sending them the message: "We're here for you and we'll destroy you by any means necessary". That's my question in a nutshell - if you're there to fight these guys in the first place, why would you want them to avoid attacking you? One possible explanation is that you don't want to be ambushed, but insurgents use guerilla tactics, so if they're ever gonna attack you, this is how they'll do it. With ambushes, dirty tricks and asymmetrical warfare. P.S. What kind of eyepro is this (at 2:03 - 2:08)? Thank you for your time, thank you for your service.
This is some great stuff. Thank you for making these videos, I think they have a lot to offer to anyone looking to join the infantry, or even people who are already in and want to brush up on the basics.
True story I left my poncho in my pack in 03 while in Iraq. It doesn’t rain in the desert!!!, it rained for three days. From that day forward the poncho stayed on my deuce gear. Always have a solution for rain no matter where your at. Good stuff and you had one job schmuckatelly !
My old army psg was really big on PCC's and PCI's. And to this day (even though I'm out) I never forget to bring a water source and other essential items.
Back in the day , we had "T-O & E " . Tables of organization and equipment . A list of mission specific items for various scenarios , terrain , weather etc. . This included everything from climbing gear , whether entrenching tools were required , ammo type .... on and on . All preplanned for a specific AO . Nice video
16:30 I totally agree with you. I always tell my men to pack to much food (I still make sure they didn't pack a whole buffet worthy of the whole platoon) because I find that once you are out in the field doing hard work you burn through way more food than you thought.
If you spray paint (after scuffing with sandpaper) the wallyword D-rings with a mat color (green, brown, tan or black) they work just as well as the high speed, low drag operator rings.
Man. I would have killed to have this series when I was a Corporal and team leader...now it is just nostalgia...but seriously this was a great video and would be an asset the current crop of grunts.
Ah so much memories of my basic training as a draftee in the swiss army, before each days on the field we had to show our gear, pocket by pocket to our NCO's and it was a pain in the ass because each time a guy forgot a thing we had to do push ups while the dummy get his stuff ahahah Great video
Peacock pocket warmers are great to stay warm, even with inadequate clothes. Make sure your things don`t rattle and that your food/snacks can be opened&eaten without sound. It`s very interesting what difference different packaging makes. It`s also a good idea to have food that doesn`t have a problem with heat in your jacket or pants cargo pocket. I like to have a phonton light on pacebeads ( i use it to count, usually not my steps but things and landmarks) and basic E&E things as well as "emergency ration"(not what you usually buy as such). In regards to "paper" i like pocketcards with usefull informations and a small calendar with the time when the sun goes up/down as well as the moonphases. Also a civilian phone can be very, very usefull (a cheap one does the trick as long as it`s robust and doesn`t have to be charged often but there can be made a case for a smartphone because of some useful apps, gps photos and videos you can send in real time. That bring said it all depends on the situation. It`s very interesting how the rhodesian did things and the syrians do things.
This is actually really fun, I've watched about 2 of his other IG videos, and it's so awesome to actually use the skills I learned in a practical scenario, Your content is great!
Well this looked neat! Ill be saving this. What i liked the most: Plenty of water, plenty of food, and enough socks(thats what i lerned today; bring more socks). Keep it up! Jeff
Ha yup, that was my original MOS when I was young Devil Dog. Obviously when I first created my RUclips account I had no idea I would end up having a large YT channel.
This was a very overlooked and practical video. Thank you Brent for posting this and kinda giving a test at the end! I did pretty decent on the test but once again some very slight overlooks can mean the difference between completing the mission efficiently and getting everyone home safe so definitely something to drill into the mindset!
@@Brent0331 not a problem brother thank you for posting. Always enjoy your videos and love to see the insights of our infantry guys. Much love and respect. Keep up the amazing work!
RE: chafing and pain.....NO "medicated" gold bond on your junk; feet only Gold Bond, "Friction Defense" was a game changer for me. A little behind the boys and a touch on the crack, and I'm unstoppable.
AWESOME content!!! I subbed and rang the bell. Thanks for the info!!! Always good to stay refreshed with periodic training classes. Memory exercise is just as important as going to the gym, shooting range or PT courses!!! Stay vigilant, brothers and sisters!!! I thank you ALL for your service!!! You are All appreciated and MUCH needed!!! Be safe out there. WWG1WGA!!!
Thanks to this and the other gear videos, I've learned a lot and got the right stuff I needed and substituted that which was found lacking. The practical application part was also again very welcome and I had fun doing it. Quality stuff, being in the shoes that I am in now, this would be very hard to get if it wasn't for Brent's channel and effort!
Such an amazing video. Just in the nick of time when I need it. I am writing a novel that has the military as its centre and I found this video extremely helpful. Thanks Alot!
This is legit. Exactly how we were taught in the Canadian Army Infantry. Full kit inspection and rehearsals before any patrol. Smuckatelli needs to get hit shit squared away, but his fireteam partner is as guilty as him for not giving him a once over before the final inspection! Lol
Was shown much of my early outdoors skills by ex army personnel. I essentially had to go through this style of inspection every time before I went out from about the age of 12. Still can't stand to go out hiking with battle rattle!
I would go with a patrol bag and goretex bivvy bag over poncho and liner. Not a large weight difference and no volume difference, but huge difference in warmth. Otherwise, an outstanding, professional series of training videos.
Great video. These instructional videos are my favorite. Have you thought of doing a video on radio communications? Some questions I have about that would be: who gets a radio? does everyone get to talk over the radio? what is some of the nomenclature for military radio speak? Is there a radio you would recommend someone to get? I think these videos are great for small militia groups to learn from. If there is ever a civil war or a tyrannical government, these will help many people. Please continue with these series. I would also like to see videos demonstrating a room clearing operation and graphics or sandbox to go with the demonstration.

The Government is doing a great job at shutting us down and forbidding us our rights under the Constitution!!!%
Rule of thumb: Don't follow the LT during Land Nav 😆👍
I would love a land Nav video. I still have all my land nav tools but rarely have the opportunity to practice the skill
Smedley Butler told the truth.
Thanks brother.
Hey Brent as a young infantryman team leader i appreciate your videos
Glad I could help brother.
An absolutely invaluable resource. Under your leadership I’m certain that even LCpl Smuckatelli would be squared away.
Thanks brother, he'll learn one day.
I love these Infantryman's guide videos! I've been out for almost 3 years now but this info is still invaluable.
Andrew Tolbert I’ve been retired since 2004, once this shit gets into your blood, it becomes you🤷♂️😂😂😂
Thanks brother.
Although extremely bad ass and awesome, it is unauthorized. Spoken like a true Texan Marine.
Ha, yup. S/F!
being bad ass is of the upmost tactical importance
This is where our host truly shines, instructional videos that are concise, clear, and offers insight you don't find in a book...
typical infantryman instruction. straight to the point, brief and clear. excellent videos
Thanks
outstanding
No nonsense clear concise instructions. Hoorah! This series is great!
Reminds me very much of my SPCs style at TBS 2010.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I liked the scenario at the end. Clear, concise and to the point. Big fan of your production videos. I watch them to help me understand my Marine.
Thanks
Thanks brother.
Outstanding! Mission first. When I was in the Marine Corps Corps it's suprising how much extra non-essential gear guys bring. As you said "pounds equal pain."
Love the vids!! Semper Fi
Thanks, S/F brother.
Interesting, thanks for your insight. Just out of curiosity, do you guys consider a LCpl a NCO?
@@Brent0331 yes the Lance Corporal is considered a nco he is also the Second in Command of a section and he commands one group of it in a contact situation cheers.
Hey Brent, no thumbs down, i think everyone that shows up for class clearly takes it to heart & really respects your leadership skills,.. I really believe that these are the people that would follow into hell & back, & that speaks volumes... Again thank you much for everything you share with us out here, at your expense, tine, & expertise...Again thank you much for another great vid man...
Appreciate it brother.
I'm really loving the content of this channel.
Keep em coming!
Appreciate it.
Learning always and no BS teaching from you. Thank you.
Cold hard facts, keep me warm and breathing.
This channel is so informative I'm learning so much thank you for your work getting this info out
Thanks brother.
I feel more prepared every time i watch an infantrymans guide,,, dont know what im prepared for but im prepared. Thanks Brent!
These videos are golden ! I am a civilian but I often go alone in the mountains and discipline and a systemic approach as shown here are key to never being unprepared.Awesome content !
Awesome! The exercises tou have in the last part make you remember the complete "episode"!Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed.
Awesome SgtMaj, thanks for sharing. S/F!
all young soldiers are idiots that e5 should have trained them better.
Ha, yup, I had an old CO that came from Recon that would cut his MRE spoon in half as well. Great points made, thanks for watching and commenting.
@@Brent0331 Cut it in half length-wise or cross-wise? Haha. "This half spoon sucks ass for eating soup!"
OUTSTANDING VIDEO!
I know a poolee or two that is going to get these videos strongly recommended to them.
The information contained is about to be the central focus of their life, best study it well now to gain an advantage later!
Thanks man.
Prior service marine (not infantry) currently working to re-enlist and go that route. Been using your videos as study guides/refreshers to help prep. Thank you
Man, that was absolutely outstanding! One of the best videos you´ve ever made so far! I´m looking forward to see more of these in the future. Best regards from Germany!
Thanks brother, I appreciate it.
Best series I have found. My son is 0311. I am prior law enforcement. Having these videos give me a better understanding of what my son is doing and why. Thank you.
Glad I could help, I know your proud of your boy. S/F
Brent more Infantrymans Guides please they are awsome and very informative!
Hi Brent, from a former Australian Army grunt aka ozzygrunt, this vlog brings back a lot of fond memories for me. You’ve struck everything that the Australian infantry soldiers carry out when ever on exercise or operations. Thank you
Awesome brother, I always enjoy reading comments from grunts from other countries.
Awesome video brother. I was in the infantry from 1979 to 1983. 2nd 87th 8 infantry division. Pathfinders. Best job I ever had! Once a soldier always a soldier. God bless brother keep up the awesome videos.🇺🇸
Thanks brother, appreciate it.
*Motor T*
Staff Sarnt: "Yall good?"
Lcpl: "Rah... i brought all i will ever need for this mission."
* continues to point at gear *
Gear: 6 pack of monsters, log of wintergreen, and a speaker.
Staff Sarnt: "Da F* is wrong with you devil?"
That shit had my cackling
Sounds familiar.
Underrated comment
11:32 is very applicable when going out with groups of friends to any place.
-Radio frequencies (cell phone numbers in civilian life)
-No comms situation
-lost man
-casualty evacuation
Thanks for the video. It's been over twenty years since I did a per-combat check for real and I'm glad to say I only missed one thing. Great video, keep them coming!
Thanks brother, I appreciate it.
4:08 to 4:12 Priceless!
Smucateli your running laps when we get back from patrol!!!.......Great video!! Good job Marine!!!💯👍👍👌
Oh there's nothing like an Old School Pre-Op PPC-PPI to bring back memories and set the mind at ease. HOORAH!!!!
That camo looks SO TACTICOOL, I LOVE IT.
Agreed 100%
I've watched this video so many times and I'll probably watch it many more, I love going over gear, placement and usage and that was even before becoming 11B. Keep up the great work.
Thanks
"Crushing some souls..." LOL! Love it.
Always SQUARED AWAY,,Consimate professional..God bless Brent..Semper Fi
Thanks brother, S/F!
Great video here Brent! I know about that wet and cold part thanks to mother nature. We had none of the warm layers or gortex when I was in but sure could've used it.
Thanks brother. What years were you in?
Let me explain:
I've seen Everyday Marksman's videos with you, and you mentioned something similar being the case with civilians.
This dudes squared away.
Appreciate it brother.
This is some great stuff. Thank you for making these videos, I think they have a lot to offer to anyone looking to join the infantry, or even people who are already in and want to brush up on the basics.
Well done, these are so simple things, yet so many forget about them.
Thank you brother for sharing us civilians knowledge like this, people who serve for us should switch salaries with football players 💯
Ha, thanks for sharing.
Nice video
Thanks brother
Dang Top, I can lose the M-65 liner but I really want my poly pro and grid fleece. 😕
Said nobody... ever!
Ha, that field jacket liner is an outstanding piece of gear. That will remain a main stay in my ruck for the entirety of my life time.
Brent0331 We think alike my brother. 😎👊🏻
@@RedDawn370 My new guys aren't issued liners. They don't understand what they are missing. Warm and light and breathes well.
16:30 I totally agree with you. I always tell my men to pack to much food (I still make sure they didn't pack a whole buffet worthy of the whole platoon) because I find that once you are out in the field doing hard work you burn through way more food than you thought.
Outstanding video, really liked the inspection scenario. Please do more of those inspections so we can try and pick out errors as well.
Outstanding vid. Even gave me pre inspection jitters trying to think what i forgot. Thank you
This is the kind of stuff the History channel used to show before pawn shops and gold mining took over. Thanks! 👍
Yup
As a former infantryman myself, let me say this man is on point.
Thanks brother.
Very good tanks guy this is kind of information that we searched . Tanks from Brazil.
Good vid. I like large ALICE packs and keeping load outs simple but not simplistic. Thanks again for your no-nonsense presentations.
Thanks brother.
Thank you for the sit rep sir. You are appreciated
If you spray paint (after scuffing with sandpaper) the wallyword D-rings with a mat color (green, brown, tan or black) they work just as well as the high speed, low drag operator rings.
Yup, there are cheaper alternatives for everything.
Man. I would have killed to have this series when I was a Corporal and team leader...now it is just nostalgia...but seriously this was a great video and would be an asset the current crop of grunts.
Thanks brother, that's why I'm doing it, something easier to follow for those guys then a pub.
Bravo-Zulu! Outstanding Presentation on the Proper Load-out for a 24hr Patrol!
Glad you enjoyed!
Well this looked neat! Ill be saving this.
What i liked the most: Plenty of water, plenty of food, and enough socks(thats what i lerned today; bring more socks).
Keep it up!
Jeff
Thanks
So I have just realized that this man’s channel name is the mos of the marine machine gunner (0331). Very clever sir, very clever.
Thanks for watching.
@@Brent0331 not a problem brother thank you for posting. Always enjoy your videos and love to see the insights of our infantry guys. Much love and respect. Keep up the amazing work!
RE: chafing and pain.....NO "medicated" gold bond on your junk; feet only
Gold Bond, "Friction Defense" was a game changer for me. A little behind the boys and a touch on the crack, and I'm unstoppable.
Wait a minute, smoking, joking, and playing grab ass is SOP for all joes lol
Ha, agreed, but time and place.
A love this. A little known thing that few people know or have heard of. Great work as always!!!
Thanks
AWESOME content!!! I subbed and rang the bell. Thanks for the info!!! Always good to stay refreshed with periodic training classes. Memory exercise is just as important as going to the gym, shooting range or PT courses!!! Stay vigilant, brothers and sisters!!! I thank you ALL for your service!!! This is a good video. Some of it applies to deer hunting and it is good training for planning a hunting drive for deer. Thanks for posting.
JUNK ON A BUNK. Haven't heard that in 40 years. OOOHRAH.
And thanks for your great videos.
Glad I could bring back some great memories. Semper Fi brother.
The inspection was right on. Depending upon the timing, face camo might already be on. Thanks for the video. S/Fi and happy birthday.
One of you best videos to date, it is very detailed.
Thanks
Great video. Gonna use some of this info to teach my Soldiers on preping for the next JRTC rotation.
Awesome brother, glad I could help.
Thanks brother, glad I could help.
Love the video's keep em coming godbless the U.S.A and thanks for ur services men.... 🇺🇸
Such an amazing video. Just in the nick of time when I need it. I am writing a novel that has the military as its centre and I found this video extremely helpful. Thanks Alot!
I would love to see you recreate this video with civil war era kit. 😂
Definitely no going to happen, ha.
@@Brent0331 damn, well i tried 😆
alright, you're gonna need your rifle, uniform, hard tack, and the good book.

Great information!
And as always a very well produced video.
("Gear bomb", I have always loved that phrase!)
Thanks brother.
This is legit. Exactly how we were taught in the Canadian Army Infantry. Full kit inspection and rehearsals before any patrol. Smuckatelli needs to get hit shit squared away, but his fireteam partner is as guilty as him for not giving him a once over before the final inspection! Lol
Excellent!! Preparedness is everything
I’m learning a lot from your videos keep up the good work kinda reminds me of Boy Scouts...... when it was real
Thanks brother, as much as I would love to do a radio class I don't really have the assets to do it.
Found this by accident, very insightful and interesting. Thanks
Awesome, thanks for dropping in. Subscribe, there will be more coming down the pipe.
This here is some quality instruction.
What an excellent video/content, very impressed! Thank you!
