Looks like a good product. I hope to see an all metal gimbal version in the future to potentially replace my X-Lite Pro.
I agree with yoiu on the game controller sized radios. I can get by with the four switches for all my in the air flight needs, plus you can use your stickes to change all of your betaflight settings which makes having more hardware switches and buttons less compelling for me. As long as there's an external module, you can make most of these small ones work really nice in my opinion.
Yes, I only fly fpv so I am with you, I don't find a need for a number of switches/aux. This radio does come with a panel that would allow an external module, but we wouldn't use it with elrs, we would get the base unit and then use the panel to add the external module we need.

Like these gamepad-style transmitters as they are more ergonomic and lighter. Still using my X-Lite and X9D+ as daily drivers (need D8 for whoops but with latest EdgeTX and ELRS installed.)
the x-lite was one I used for a good long while. i still have three of them. :)
Nick, I pack to fly, so the game controller style is my preference. This gives you a lot of options, but the price point seems to high. I’d rather wait for a Radiomaster Zorro with a better battery. Thanks for sharing.
$129 is a good point with lots of features, like digital hall gimbals, a better range of ELRS RF 500mW 915MHz and 1000mW 2.4GHz, quick charge, 20 hours battery...

Flight stacks in the past, and they didn’t handle it very well. It’s a pass for me.

Yes, the battery lasts so long I don't know how long it would be before we need to charge again. 4000mah with that small screen the battery must last a long long time.
We don't get a motor post to motor post for controllers but what about "gimbal post to gimbal post"? Also no "stickers"?

Great review but I'm curries about Elrs from your Tx16s, what is your recommendation for Elrs module for such radio as Tx16s?
I would look at a namimno module or the happymodel es24tx micro. the axisflying module is better, but so much more expensive.

The commando8 is smaller and lighter, and will have far longer battery life than the zorro. I like the switches of the zorro, the navigation of the menus and the option for the AG-01 mini cnc gimbals. It can be a wash depending on which features are more important to us.

I fly with 1200 deg/s rates on TX16S. When I switch to small gimbals (TX12) I need go down with my rates to 800 deg/s because I'm losing control. My experience is that on smaller gibals there is actually less control precision. So, small radio - ok, small gimbals - nah.
Seriously considering to just poke a hole in the rubber flaps to be able to fit a screwdriver for adjusting gimbal tension (which was way to soft for me). Also I had to calibrate mine when I got them. And some menu items are missing in edgeTX, like "Display" 🤔
hey what ever works for us, we mod our stuff to suit our needs and desires.
@@NickBurnsFPV yeah, well got a bit disappointed with that tension screw, doesn't really do much except tension in up down :/
So I've been out of the hobby for a bit, but with summer coming I'm getting the itch. My question for you is what radio is your daily driver now? I'm still using the original Jumper T Lite with Frsky and probably should make the transition to elrs.
We better scratch that itch, and I am always glad to hear of friends coming back to fpv. My daily is the radiomaster zorro (elrs version) with the ag-01 mini cnc gimbals, but that is an expensive combo. The t-lite is a solid radio imho, I still use it for the quads on frsky or those that I haven't bound up to the zorro with elrs. I think the best way to get into elrs without spending much is to get the happymodel es tx lite module for the t-lite. We do have to open the radio to connect come cables to mount the module on the back but no soldering.
@@NickBurnsFPV almost like a foreign language to me there's been so many changes in the past year I've been out. Albert Kim and a couple others have told me not to add a module to the Jumper T Lite but I know many who have. I really think it's best to get myself a dedicated radio just for elrs and keep my Jumper T Lite the way it is since I have many models stored in it, drones and a few planes over 40 maybe pushing 50. I bought a few GPS camera drones like the Spark, Bugs16 pro and Bebop 1 and 2, plus my favorite which I really need to get airborne the Evo1. So I was flopping around from those and many 3 inch and 4 inch long range drones and I got sick and lost a little interest or maybe just lazy. Thanks for the reply and glad see you're still flying great.

One concern I have is that it's not easy to open up to get inside.... Currykitten says it needs a tool from iflight??

Can you plug into bf and take a look?
On the pitch axis I do see a 1 value jitter about every 2-3 seconds. As to opening I am not sure yet. It certainly doesn't unscrew and come apart. I think at the least we would need a spudger, which I don't have or misplaced. I have asked iflight about how to open it, up but have not gotten an answer to that question.

What receiver? Is the receiver running new frsky access firmware?
I watched currykitten review of this radio and noted he had trouble with the throttle stick bouncing back on the lowest position. Did you notice the same? Also are these gimbals same size as on the zorro? If no did you feel the difference in your performance compared to zorro?
I did not have throttle stick issues. In the video I measure the command gimbal size and show the difference to the zorro and the old t-lite. Yes they are smaller, but it was not an issue for me.
By calibrating the radio so that the bottom of the throttle is where the stick springs back to as the zero point.

Not to change subjects but back to the crux35 hd it is not durable.I thought I fractured an arm come to find out 3 arm fractures the weight of battery (send it 850mah 4s)was the problem in my opinion
durability is very difficult to weigh with only one. When more are being flown by more people we can get a better idea of the durability. Of course some crashes might be those "lucky" crashes or crashes that very few quads can survive. I believe it to be important to stay within the prop size category when comparing. Sorry yours broke, I know the frames are a bit difficult to get right now. I hope you might have another quad to continue to enjoy fpv.

I'm a mid-size kinda guy. The big units are too much, and the gamepad form factor doesn't do it for me. To each their own. Not like there's a lack of choice these days. This one looks pretty slick if you're into a compact controller.
Do you use the smaller traditional type radio like the T12 from radio master?

This one has too many cons for me, outer buttons are too loose and rattle.The price is way too high for what version i would want, that would be 205.95 (elrs and 2500 chip both 2.4 , external mount, and a spare set of 18mm gimbals) . Gimbals are the other reason, backwards thread in style so i couldn't even print flat ones that i like and install.
I can see that sure. I did think the choice to have gimbals without a host of options was odd, but maybe they have plans on releasing more and if its popular other manufactures might jump in, but those are a big "if".
Too pricey tbh. The Zorro a better deal. This will drop in price pretty quickly, they'll sell very few at this price point.
Commando or Zorro?
For me its the zorro. I prefer the feel in the hand, more stick ends options and switches over buttons.
