It's crazy to me how much more understandable the parasite cutscene is in third-person, even with the despawning parasite. My first playthrough I thought that our character fought off the parasite and took his gun, but the gun had arms and to make the gun work our character had to let the gun arms burrow into his abdomen. In retrospect it's stupid but that's really what it looked like to me
I didn't even know I got a parasite I thought it was a cool upgrade system where they used flesh and stuff that attach to your body instead of something like a cyborg.
Scorn is a fascinating game and I really hope we eventually get another peek into its world. It’s a bleak and dangerous place filled with creatures that defy Earthly nature, and the architecture of meat and bone evoke the feeling of traversing one large creature in itself!
I don't think they would make a sequel as the world seems to be at it's end stage with everything stagnating and braking down. Also I think adding any kind story such as a sequel or prequel would ruin the mystery.
edit: 12:04 speen as bleak as this game is, i find it so nice that the devs at least let the moldman get free after you leave him behind and he’s not stuck there on the console. it made me so happy to find that out. lol
The sheer ammount of content (and important lore) that was cut from the game is unacceptable. I recommend everyone interested in this game to checkout the Artbook. After following the game since the first kickstarter, and seeing them finish the game (both when it was in Part 1 of 2 : Dasein ; And after getting money from Kovloon Nights) only to have them delete it all to re-do it from scratch .. I feel that key aspects of the game were lost. From 6 distinct zones: Assembly, Blasted Labyrinth, Crater - The Tower, Polis and the last zone with psychedelic transcendent beings. We only got 3, and those severely cut. Assembly, Crater and Polis (with the last zone being just a couple of rooms and a bossfight from the Blasted Labyrinth.. Boss which should've been a regular enemy encounter).
@@whatifguy9675 they probably did it for budget or time related reasons, the art book doesn't explain everything but it gives a very good idea of what the world is and why it is the way it is, even explaining that it isn't an alien world but actually earth

honestly, I think it's fine this way. The way the game throws you into the world is supposed to make you ask questions. Not to find answers really, but to make the player ask themselves, how do **I** feel about this. The art book is just for lore nerds who want concrete answers.
I just played this game for the first time yesterday and this video really helped me to feel better from how depressing that ending is. Thanks for the perfect timing Shesez
Seeing you cover Scorn, you should definitely cover a game with similar roots, Alien: Isolation. The connection being that both game's monsters were based on the works of of Swiss artist H.R. Giger.
Isolation is so huge and detailed I seriously doubt if you could cut everything down to a video. It's literally MASSIVE. which is surprising considering it's maybe only 85 gigs.
Elevator loading, which is not used in Portal 1 or 2, strangely enough. In the Portal games, some levels are multiple levels connected, and the elevator does not do any loading at all. All levels are active. Then when you take the final elevator when it has to load the next area, it does not load at all during the elevator ride. Instead, the elevator will reach a certain point, and then it will stop to load, then you spawn in the elevator in the next area. This makes the elevators in Portal 1 and 2 just a waste of time. Some are really long for some reason, but the game isn't loading anything.
IIRC there was often some monologue to the player at the end of a level but changing maps in source stops all audio, so it's possible that devs just did that avoid story content being cut off
a better example would be fallout 4, where the elevators are a sort of second loading screen. Also I think some of them are long in case the player is too fast and needs to listen to dialogue
Scorn is a very unique game ever made. I am glad you did a Boundary Break for this one, cause I really wanted to see that light which is shown at the end of the game.
I feel like there's an unfinished or unfound ending, since the final parasite spawns in instead of being pre-loaded like the rest. Has anyone tried saving everything, like the egg baby thing (maybe skip the fight and crush the egg instead of the corpse)? Maybe roamed the 1st puzzle area endlessly for triggers or clues, or to kill the 1st player parasite so it can't kill the 2nd player humanoid? Or tried leading every playable end area character to the bridge before loading it? Someone else revealed that you fall through the bridge when walking on it, and there is only 1 nearby cutscene trigger at the start of the bridge... but what if it gets changed to play a different cutscene through a bunch of specific situations?
Im guessing that the alternate ending would be the humanoid passing the portal and getting another kind of ascension in inexistence or rebirth. Considering the current ending is when the parasite and the humanoid merge and become an ascended “consciousness” (a corporeal being capable of transferring into different shells/bodies). And the less than ideal implied ending is the humanoid trapped in the neural hivemind. Also as the wanderingartist has said... the game is locked in a single ending regardless of which choice you picked. Afaik there’s also no trace of alternate ending in the game files.
Just finished playing Bendy and the Dark Revival and remembered that you did a Boundary Break episode on the first Bendy game! Hope to see you do one for the second game in the near future

I think that would entirely miss the point. Your character made a terrible mistake in not being willing to the requirements needed for what they wanted. A lot of the lore is locked inside the artbook tragically, but this game takes place on earth, far into the future after humanity bombed itself to near extinction via chemical weapons. Those last "true" humans in the final city began to go nuts in figuring out how they could transcend their physical form, escape the limitations and frailty of the human body, and their final creation was that... "doctor". It connects you to the literal neural network overhead, allowing you to now live outside of the body, leaving the empty shell of your body behind flayed on those racks. You go through the same process, join the network and use it to control the Nurses so your mind can go through the gate to whatever the ultimate end result of this ascension process is. But you're unwilling to commit, and refuse to fully leave your body behind. You drag it with you, and you can even see the entire reason you get kicked out of the Nurse by the parasite is when it severs the string linking your brain into the network. You couldn't give up your physicality, and that left a gaping weakpoint for the parasite to take advantage of. You ranscended your frail body and freedom from the fear of death and illness. Just rather than freedom from physicality, you're free from mortality, but trapped within the egg that the parasite has formed by merging with you. You got what you wanted, but because you couldn't fully commit to what it required of you, the monkey's paw curled instead. It's right there in the title, Scorn, the feeling or belief that someone or something is despicable and deserving of contempt. The parasite scorns you for getting the chance to do what it couldn't, transcend, and you scorn the parasite for stealing your ultimate goal when you were so very close. And yet both were brought on by themselves. The parasite was once the player during the tutorial section, and it was the lack of understand or care that they lacked understanding that led them to use that large tube thing, either when it was broken, or they weren't using it properly, leading to it breaking and flooding them with the white liquid that transformed them into the parasite. Then the second character refuses to fully leave their physical form behind and find another way to weigh down the pressure plate, leading to the exact situation that the parasite needed to finally get to you. It's not fulfilling because that's the point. As someone once described the game like, you are a cow on the way to the slaughterhouse. You can't comprehend what is really happening, nor can you control it. All you know is that you can't change what happens, because it's already in motion regardless of what you wish for. If what happens was a result of your own mistake, then you must live with the consequences now. Definitely not a happy game, but it having a happy ending misses the point. It's far more about the themes, art, and exploration of concepts and philosophies.
This game should be recreated in Unreal engine 5.1 and updated. It deserves to be a full experience. It has a great concept.
