I’m definitely in the first camp. I like the left heel beat in the middle because it keeps the weight shifting between your right and left feet on the down beats. Easier for beginners to pick up and much more comfortable to dance to!
Hello there. I am also a tapper and I am currently in college getting a degree in dance (and math and a minor in Spanish). I have written a 41 page paper on the history and evolution of tap dancing and I am currently writing a paper on why each tap step has been given the name that it has. I was wondering if you knew of any sources that would help me with this paper. I am currently referencing Tap Roots and Tap Dancing America. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
I have seen others do it with a hop instead of a heel after the spank. But tap terminology is not broadly standardized - so there are many different names for similar steps and different steps under the same name.
I like way more your version, 2 weeks ago my teacher... teached us some weird uncomfortable Cincinnati, that is [Shuffle-right, heel-left, Shuffle-right, heel-left, step-right, repeat left side], i feel uncomfortable and need that spank to make it faster haha, also sounds better. Good Day!

I find this way more comfortable as well.
Rod, I like your version the best. The extra heel makes a nice sound.
Great job. Thanks for teaching me!
My pleasure - thank you for tapping with me!
he sounded like elmo when he said "that's wrong"
I always learned spank heel, shuffle heel, then (this is where it’s different )instead of step it’s ball heel. 🤷♀️. I like your version too.
Thanks - there are many different ways that people do Cincinnati.

I would love to read your paper!!!
That’s not how I learned it-are there two ways?
