Rex and Dime were a unit. It’s so great to see Dime walk up to Rex on stage and hype him up and then they break out and start jamming. Fucking awesome. Talk about chemistry, not all bands have a happy ending but this band had an immaculate lineup not because of their talent but because of how they all worked with each other

I think what's missing is that hump centered at 600-800 Hz that gives Dime's tone its signature crunch. But overall, turns out that the bad rap on these wasn't really justified, cus that's a pretty nice foundation to work with!
As far as the Precision Drive, I find that it makes things sound a _liiittle bit_ too spanky, even for Dime's standards - and the L500XL and Dimebucker are already quite spanky to begin with. They have this very prominent peak at around 2.1 or 2.2 kHz, which does come across quite a bit in distorted tones... so that might actually be the "spike" you're referring to.

    • @stevenhirsekorn3444
      @stevenhirsekorn3444 Год назад

That spikyness is mainly prevalent with the precision drive, it removes too much of the oomph from the guitar and the bright control Is definitely too high and the gain is a little low from the drive. The thinner jangly overdrive settings definitely are nasty but not in the way you want I think

I have always had small combo amps, but on the odd occasion when I got to play through a 4x12 cab you get that big fat smack in the face sound you only get with big speakers moving lots of air and the headphones really brought that out. Wear your headphones people, Ola is better with them on. Love your work dude.

The description went something along the lines of that Dime grabbed a handful of distortion pedals, plugged them all in in series, he couldn't remember them all but there was a big pig in there and a fuzz face and he said "I had to keep hold of the guitar in case the feedback ripped it out of my hands" 😆 🤣 .
Can you get any more Dime?

I remember before his death kind of losing a bit of respect for him as a human being due to his alcohol addiction, I kind of got to the point where I honestly wanted to see the guy clean up his act! Even if he wasn't murdered I highly doubt he'd still be alive today...I know a lot of his fans liked the drunk Darrell, but myself as a fan started to think the alcohol was getting the best of him.

@@TheBridgesYouBurn funny enough i've heard about Dime having written letters about him wanting to get sober. It's very possible he would've went to get clean. He even had plans to try and reunite Pantera again before that tragic evening in Ohio.

I had a Randall RG100ES years ago, It had a ton of gain which was surprising for its age, but it really didn't sound like Dime's tone. I eventually realized that he used a ton of post EQ and that's how he got his tone. He took a mediocre, muddy sounding amp and made it sound good and unique. Unfortunately I sold that amp, but luckily got pretty much all the money back I had into it because of its value and rarity.

Muddy!? You must have had a dud or a 'tired' amp!? I have one and people cannot believe how tight and powerful that amp is straight in without ANY pedals whatsoever. A sleeping giant of an amp. This coming from a guy who owns 2 EVH 100S Stealths, Mesa Road King 2 V2, Marshall JVM 410H, 2 Ampeg 140CC's to name a few in the high gain camp I own. Trust me - your experience is an unusual one.

I had one as well, I agree. I ran a set of active humbuckers into the face and it had a really hot sound for an amp of it's age but it always lacked something. I was close but not close enough to ever be satisfied. Although I wasn't going for dimes sound, I was going for max Chug usually. Boost on always. Was weak without it, even with the 9volts

I had about 50 amps..... I was always experimenting with my engineer new capacitors and NOS tubes and trading...so I had mesa rectifier a lot of times...bogner shiva...diezels....plexis vintage..etc... And there were 2 amps that made me crazy... Orange Rockerverb MK1 ( not 2 , not 3... 1 ) and this dime D-100...fuckin amazing man

It'd be interesting to hear this with a tubescreamer instead. I think that characteristic hump it has would lend itself better to Dime's tone with this amp and those pickups than a more modern OD which feel to me, at least, like they're more catering to lower tunings and lack that sound profile that the TS does

I run this amp in my own personal rig. It’s a killer when you roll the gain back and boost the mids while cutting a bit of the highs…the tightness is UNREAL 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
    My own setup:
    Dime D100 head
Voodoo 4x12 cab with V30 / (I believe) Greenback mix
    Hotone Ampero multi-effects unit
Jackson KEXQ Kelly w EMG H3 bridge, H2 neck
    Jackson SL7Q Soloist w EMG 57/66 combo

The EMG passive pickups sound cool. I have several of them (H1 (2), H2 (2) ALX (2), H1A (2), H2A (2), H4, H3) and they sound killer. Then again, I'm not using them with poor sounding beginner gear, so they sound better than most people would assume.
