They all fed of each other. They were basically a super group from the getgo. Dime and Vinnie with the groove, Dime and Rex with the tone, and Phil with the testosterone and heavy lyrics.
Rex and Dime were a unit. It’s so great to see Dime walk up to Rex on stage and hype him up and then they break out and start jamming. Fucking awesome. Talk about chemistry, not all bands have a happy ending but this band had an immaculate lineup not because of their talent but because of how they all worked with each other
If you doubt Rex and Phil's contributions to Pantera, listen to the Damageplan album. Then listen to the Rebel Meets Rebel album which had Rex and was recorded well before Pantera broke up.
I had one of these provided as backline for a festival once, having never heard of them before. Not what I was expecting but it ended up being pretty decent!
I think what's missing is that hump centered at 600-800 Hz that gives Dime's tone its signature crunch. But overall, turns out that the bad rap on these wasn't really justified, cus that's a pretty nice foundation to work with! As far as the Precision Drive, I find that it makes things sound a _liiittle bit_ too spanky, even for Dime's standards - and the L500XL and Dimebucker are already quite spanky to begin with. They have this very prominent peak at around 2.1 or 2.2 kHz, which does come across quite a bit in distorted tones... so that might actually be the "spike" you're referring to.
these newer modern drive pedals are more for lower tunings, definitely not on a Dime tone. I have an Airis Effects savage drive and I can agree it is a bit too spanky for Dime standards
That spikyness is mainly prevalent with the precision drive, it removes too much of the oomph from the guitar and the bright control Is definitely too high and the gain is a little low from the drive. The thinner jangly overdrive settings definitely are nasty but not in the way you want I think
Michael Angelo Batio used them, I saw the same NAMM video you did, and I knew what to add to them so I could get the perfect tone, but haven't been able to own one myself. I haven’t played this amp in years I recently revisited it and I’m in love with it again. You’re right tho with the gain lower it a bit and it tightens up the sound.
I had a Randall RG100ES years ago, It had a ton of gain which was surprising for its age, but it really didn't sound like Dime's tone. I eventually realized that he used a ton of post EQ and that's how he got his tone. He took a mediocre, muddy sounding amp and made it sound good and unique. Unfortunately I sold that amp, but luckily got pretty much all the money back I had into it because of its value and rarity.

I had one as well, I agree. I ran a set of active humbuckers into the face and it had a really hot sound for an amp of it's age but it always lacked something. I was close but not close enough to ever be satisfied. Although I wasn't going for dimes sound, I was going for max Chug usually. Boost on always. Was weak without it, even with the 9volts

Me too man, I bought the cabs off dimes old personal photographer through eBay. Hi Ola! I think the volume of your playthrough at the intro is louder like +5db than when you're talking. Just a heads up haha Awesome vid btw!
5:45 Horizon Devices Precision Devices Horizon Zero Dawn Precision Drive HAHAHHAHAH
I bet you could get a good Overkill - The Years Of Decay tone with that amp.
Damn man, the guitar tone on that album is killer
That stack looks and Sounds Awesome Ola .
I got one of those, and now you made the prices go through the roof 😊 #tacksåmycketola 🤘
I still have the little Blacktooth amp version! Also the 412 Straight cab. Great sounding stuff!
OLA is such a Beast at getting great tone
Your tone always nailing it!
Sounds terrific
I have Dimebag pickups on my Vudu and I put the blade pickup in the bridge position too as well as the neck position.
it's the tastiest metal blue sound you'll ever hear and I could play that metal stuff that you're playing too it sounds clear and clean with that on a orange crush 20 watt amp I use four of those in Quad Channel with a quad Channel pedal board awesome dude
I'm still rocking my Randall Warhead full stack cabs with the 2x15 for those natural lows. It's fkn killer 20 years later, or whenever I bought that thing. I remember the Warhead amp sucking balls so I got rid of it, but kept the cabs and still use em to this day.
Me too man, I bought the cabs off dimes old personal photographer through eBay. I never had a warhead head but I was lucky to acquire a krank krankenstein plus which was a rare one off made with an independent fx loop for the clean channel which no other model has. The thing is a beauty and can't wait to release my own music with it.
@@davidroberts2595 Dude, that's sick. Love it. How's the Krakenstein sound? I haven't tried one yet.
I always played Cemetery Gates' squealing amazing riff next to the nut. Pinches always come jumping out for me there, and I play .8's so bending not a problem
Ola you nailed it!
When this was something new, I thought a lot about getting one, also with the Randall RG1503, but I didn't go for it and now in Spain there're no one of those in the used market. Solidstate amps last forever. Cool video bro.
My solid state just recently broke on me
I still miss my Rg100 half stack. It was my first proper amp I bought. Unfortunately I had to sell it to save my pops house from foreclosure back in 08. One day I’ll get one again.
Love your work mate 💪. There will be another one for you in the future.
@@MrCarcass1978 You do what you gotta do for family. I miss it; but I do not regret helping out my pops. I get a pretty similar tone with my pod go; but nothing is like the original.
Dude .. you playing is a vibe 😎
I love the 10 years later series already.
I saw one of those when i was first taking lessons and i wanted it so bad. Im pissed they stopped making them
Killer !! I'm still waiting Will it chug!!!⚠️⚡⚡saludos Ola o debería decir Hola! jaja te saludo desde México ! Big fan cheers from México
love the way it looks
Hi Ola! I was stupidly amazed by the whole foam thing. I had never seen that trick before, and would be very interested in seeing more useful tech tricks. Which brings me to my point/question: It would be great to see a video, in which you share some tech tricks. Or, if you have a ton of them, maybe make a segment where you share a tip per Swola? Take care! And thank you very much for your videos!
Hola Ola, 😂 the 99 riff is a fucking beast. Gonna dig into it again!
Awesome...i also came across an old vid of you playing the, Hughes & Kettner- Switch Blade 100....
And would like to see,a updated review of that amp....
Oh thank you Ola... You're gonna raise the used prices of these after your video.
sounds great brother...That Bill Lawrence is a key to Dimes tone..Ive got a bunch of early" Nunos N2s and N4s as well as recent ones and the tone has veried a bit depending on the woods used but reguardless....Im glad Washburn and Nuno brought Bill Lawrence out of retirement when Washburn picked up Nuno...Ive had a B.L in almost every .guitar ive owned for past 20 years and thats a ton of guitars..i can say that ive never had a Lawrence crap out or have any issues at all with one..as wood ages those pickups sound even better..Specially with Alder
I remember when he first broke out, and was playing solid-state Randall amps while still getting that monster tone.
Perfect review RIP Dime
I have a red one and it's SCARY HOW BRUTAL IT IS... GETCHA PULLL!!!! You should try it with a MXR 6 band, boost and a noise gate.
This sound is so fucking amazing
I love this head. I need it in my life, my loooooord. Once I'm finished University I'll try and find one
Nice review. Sounds great.
Really cool amp! I remember when these came out, sounds excellent!
I'm a simple being... I see 'Dime'and 'Ola', I click like 👑
