If you beat the original Bubble Bobble and get the good ending because you actually have a friend, the bubble dragons both turn back into children and save their girlfriends. The sequel to that was Rainbow Islands where you play as the ex bubble dragon kids and the new gimmick is shooting rainbows. Then the sequel after that is Parasol Stars where you’re the kids again and the gimmick move is using a parasol. Those were all cute and addictive games. Then came the Bubble Bobble 2 and the Puzzle Bobble games…where you play as the bubble dragons again. In this game the girlfriends are even dragons. My question is did they retcon the fact that they’re originally kids or do they move freely between being kids and bubble dragons? It’s like there are two timelines. I think the bubble gimmick is just fun and they wanted an excuse. Someone could make an obsessed and passionate video about Bubble Bobble canon. The little guy from Chack n’Pop makes a cameo in the second Puzzle Bobble game. 😐

You can either enter a code to play as a human from the start, or collect the letters R, O, and D to become human again. They don't have to stay bubble dragons the entire game.

The players in this one are the children of the protagonists from the first three games; they mention it in the story that plays on one of the attract screens that doesn't play in this video.
