I wanna say three things: First, shooting RAW doesn’t magically make your pics look better, it will look the same as JPG as long as you don’t zoom in, but I guess on the Xperia shooting RAW disables the image post processing that “edits” your photo. The real advantage of RAW is the flexibility when editing, one example is that JPG compression loses a lot of detail in the highlights bc our eyes aren’t so sensitive to brightness changes in already bright stuff. Second: For everyone that doesn’t have an Xperia, the Lightroom app on mobile can shoot RAW DNG with manual controls. And third: a tip for holding your phone steady when shooting with slower shutter speeds is to take a deep breath and hold it, it’s not a massive improvement but it’s noticeable Thank you for reading my TED talk lol
good tip, that holding breath part, learnt it from fps games while I used steady scope as sniper recons and heard the sound of holding breath! D: well, games now help in photography XD
I typically do Light adjustments first and then work my way down to the Color and Effects sections (if needed). At that point I have a good idea on how much noise the image has and can add the appropriate noise reduction.
Hi been watching your videos since you got the 1Ii. GREAT info btw. I'm on the fence about getting one though, specially with the IOS 12 devices coming in a few months. Any change for an objective opinion on whether you think the 12 would be a better option overall. I saw you also carry an 11 Pro, that is why i venture asking. Thanks in advance.
Nice question! I think the iPhone 12s will be solid phones (not sure if you saw my "Camera Secrets" video). It is a tough choice and depends on what matters most to you. Do you have a preference between Android and iOS? The Xperia 1 II is one of the best Android options on the market - sleek OS with a great build and 4k screen. Also worth considering is if you prefer the Auto camera experience iPhones have, while the Xperia excels in Manual. Given September is almost here, I would personally wait for the iPhone 12 announcement before making a call. Good luck!
@@SupreetMobile i will watch your video, cant believe i missed it. I had the xperia 1 and sold it for this. I also have an Iphone which has worked flawlessly for me. The 12 pro, expected to cost aroumd the same, I secretly think they are the better deal, be it support, resale value, updates,.etc. i never thought the 1II would cost $1200, i would have kept the OG. Well, have a great day and thanks again.
One question, Does your device have a hiss in the top speaker whenever the rear cameras are activated? Got the mk2 last week but had to return it cause every video/snap i took it picked up a hissing/static noise, now unsure if i should try a different store and hope it was just that batch or find a different phone, i really wanted the mk2 so no idea what else i would get. But anyways great video :)
If u want natural colours buy Sony If u want the best RAW files buy Nokia(though slow yet worth it) Vivo X50 is awesome too! If u want to dump a Sony for another brand, It's definitely LG. If u want AI to process your pictures it's tough to recommend but probably a pixel.
@@yuushin1 alright that's great :) then i think im gonna try to order from a store where it isn't in stock atm in hopes it was just an older batch or something, since i tried/tested 2 units of the other store Do you think you could upload an unedited video footage in a somewhat quiet environment? :) Not that i don't believe you just that i have almost found no videos like that, just 2 where both had it but one was hardly noticeable over noise floor which id be fine with while the other one was really audible in a noisy environment like mine was that i find unacceptable for such an expesive phone imo

Are the shots in bright or low-light scenes? My general advice would be to expose for the highlights in bright scenes and use slow shutter speeds in low light to keep the ISO relatively low. Also, adding some noise reduction when editing helps, without degrading the overall quality.
@@SupreetMobile I know how to edit photos, check out Rico Richardson darktable tutorials. However it was during broad daylight. So that is what is annoying me. I have no clue why that is
Lol, you are an editing pro. There shouldn’t be much noise in broad daylight. The Xperia RAW files are on the grainier side, but not extreme. Are you seeing the issue across different editing software? If so, it could be a defect.
switch to p30 pro, that's it :-P downscaling 40 mpix will filter out the noise better than any tricks you'll try on sony's crippled sensor (unless you can stay at iso 64)
Why would you use d-range optimizer? i discovered sony does have some nightscene detection in the auto mode and it also processes after taking the picture. this can be shot in raw and jpeg so this might help to get it more easy kinda clean nightshot.
@@SupreetMobile ah okee. It's free downloadable? Cause if you do it at home you can never really get the colors 100% right right? Even infield probably very difficult
@@namelesssnitchy It is a paid product but you can also try Snapseed for mobile, which is free. Editing colors depends on the display you use - I haven't had any issues as long as it's set for a neutral look.
I have a 1 mark 1 and wonder how I can do it with that. I think the only major difference is I don't have Zeiss optics really. The one other thing that sets it apart from all the other Xperia 1s is that the camera is in the middle rather than off on the side. I think the main reason it is to the sides now on later models than mine is maybe Sony realized that some people could not hold it right and get a good photo. I like how although the cameras protrude a little bit it is not quite enough to cause an annoyance. A good case can make the phone lay flat. I don't really like cases even though they have saved one of my other devices from damage multiple times. That is because a lot of phones look good and then we put that big clunky thing on it that drags out any money that is in the pocket with it. It also makes the device thicker. My problem with that is a lot of people want the devices as thin as possible. It is to the point that they would sacrifice functionality or battery life to get it and then we get good looking but useless devices thanks to them!
I wish u could shoot the milky-way! I shot with an S10 and a Nokia 6.1 plus yesterday. The mid range nokia beat the S10's RAW and in noise performance at even ISO3200 at night! with the nokia I managed to boost dark images up to 2.5 stops in exposure without any degradation of colour or noise. And it was a compressed whatsapp file! If you could do a test with the xperia like shoot with a very low ISO like 400-800 and use a very slow shutter speed, get a balanced shot and see how far you can brighten the dark areas in Lr would be sick! The nokia doesn't even have raw.
@@bleuebloom absolutely not everything I said is what it is. Do it and see for yourself. I used both. The S10 could go up to 30s and F/1.5. The RAW file on the S10 looks much better than the processed one. Night sky looks grey in the processed one still noisy. The RAW one was blue and even had slight milky-way hues but had much more colour noise. The nokia only had 4s shutter speed yet was much much much cleaner. If you don't believe me it's ok. But at least do use the phones cz even the S10 guy felt bad🤣. He had the exynos variant as well worsening processing

So if you shot in raw you need to edit them afterwards right?
The power of RAW is the ability to edit, but you can always export the image without edits.
I find the Xperia 1 II to have a lot of noise in the RAW photos. It really makes everything extremely grainy. Any tips on that?
