- The looms in the museum at Boott Mill in Lowell, MA. www.nps.gov/lowe While only a few of the many looms were running, the noise in the room was deafening, so I lowered the sound and added a classical music piece as a soundtrack. The museum does offer earplugs. :-) At one point near the end, the second time I show the blue cloth being woven, there is a white thread marker that the "mill girl" added in the center of the fabric right before I started taping again to show how fast the looms weave - they do 140 - 150 rows per minute! The very last loom is the only 4 shaft automated loom in the factory. Since it can have 4 weft threads going at once, it can weave plaids - the others cannot. They can have different warp colors, but only one weft color going at a time.
And the music did NOT come from the CD "From the Fatherland." It came from the 3rd disc of the "Classics for Relaxation" CD set which my late husband bought for me a couple of years before he died. Funny, it says it was released in 2000, which is pretty impossible since he died in 1997 and he bought it in either 95 or 96... the YADB info must have been off. Anyway, THAT is where it came from.
I'd rather hear the looms running. I like the music but being a 3rd generation weaver the sound of the looms are wonderful.
Já trabalhei com este modelo de tear a 42 anos atrás. Que saudade
When a warp end breaks they were stopped by electrical drop wires, some of the older ones were mechanical sawbars that stopped the loom if a end Warp yarn ) would break..
Thank you! And thank goodness for babelfish! :-)
The music is basicly from the Album "The Moldau" from the composer B. Smetana...
Hi! I believe the people at the NHP did say the looms would stop if a warp end broke. I was guessing they were electric, but I didn't think to ask. I should probably add a link to the Lowell NHP website - they might have answers there. I'll go do that...

Russell Bonneau Unfortunately, I took this video on a cell phone eleven years ago. I no longer have the phone and doubt I have the source video anymore. I never thought anyone but me would watch it. live and learn, I guess.

piercer would fix my little smash.
In what country is there and how much
The video is of a loom at a museum in the US. I am not affiliated with the museum. I went to the museum around twelve years ago and took videos on my camera because I was into weaving at the time. I have no idea how much a loom of that type costs. You can probably look up "looms for sale" on the internet to get more information.
shame about the music, i'd rather listen to the looms...but then again, i am a weaver ;-)
