@Brendan McCann Hes already average to above average for his position on D. Do you not see him hounding the opposing guards constantly? He gets at least a steal a game in limited minutes. I think hell be fine on D, and as long as he can hold his own there, hell be on the floor getting playing time. Which is good for him and the team. Member they said the same thing about Tatum coming out of college, now hes considered one of the better wing defenders in the league.
@Brendan McCann I remember seeing Kyrie (as a Celtic, at least) AND Kemba get absolutely swallowed up at the rim. PP is already a better finisher than both so far in his career.
@@johniam6797 only looked slow because 95% was hesitation. Pierce hesi was what Jahlen fake is nowadays - nearly unstopable. But yes Pritchard is a great pickup for the C's
I remember reading an article about how Wyc Grousbec has seen Danny Ainge grin when Pritchard was still unselected during the first round draft as the Celtics had the next pick. He said he hasn't seen Ainge like that since they drafted Rondo.
@@TylerOli96 With a career average of 5 assists a game, which is above average I don't see how they're not facilitators. Get off your high horse, Payton has a LONG way to go before he's as good as they were.
@@joellikespubg2132 I don't think anyone is putting him in the same ballpark as those guys. Its just exciting to watch a white boy tear it up with fundamental basketball. You don't see it much
I dont know if anyone remembers Sedale Threat but Pritchard moves very much like him. A very jercky, stop/start quickness that is almost impossible to guard.
This dude has great potential to fit alongside The Jays for the forseeable future. Can get them open looks or just excel off the catch and shoot. Marcus is such a great defensive mentor for him too.
Everyone talks about Trader Danny but nobody talks about Drafter Danny. Sure, taking JB and JT at 3 is great. But im more impressed with who hes drafted outside the top 10 lately. Terry Rozier, Robert Williams, Semi Ojeleye, Grant Williams, Tremont Waters, and Tacko Fall are all good role players, with Rozier probably starting (dont follow the Hornets). And now Pritchard, whose game right now reminds me of Mike Bibby and his ceiling could be as high as a Steve Nash once he's developed
Kind of reminds of me of Isaiah Thomas. Small and scrappy, good shooter, good handles, good finishing at the rim. And this is a rookie we’re talking about
Ayo, you should see this dudes ball handling drill video; shits crazy. I wonder why he doesnt dribble the same way in a game. Trust me, dudes handles are out of this world.
Yea because his teammate flopped into his leg smh. I used to play against this guy throughout middle school and aau (Oregon Fast), this guy has always been legit...sad to see his nba career start and possibly end like that.
The sad reality of Payton Pritchard is that he makes it all too obvious how pathetically limited most NBA players are. The NBA had become a slow dance cuddle fest. Not worth watching. The Celtics should trade Pritchard. Hide him away somewhere. Because he shows everyone up. Hard to watch Pritchard's total game and have any respect at all for anyone else. Pritchard makes us remember why we used to love this game. The C's used to field teams regularly with five players on the floor with Pritchard's court awareness and grit. Today? It's all about post game hugs. That's fine. Go for it. Make love not war. All you can do is shoot. Big whoop.
Nesmith will be fine, just look at Rob Williams or Terry Rozier as Examples that Stevens is tough on rookies. Jaylen Brown couldn’t get minutes over Jae Crowder under Stevens. Pritchard had 2 extra years of development over Nesmith and there was an opening with Kemba being out
I can't make any judgment on Nesmith yet there was no summer league and a short preseason. Fast PP is just ready now, probably because he was a 4 year college guy.
@@MrBacchus18 Plus Nesmith is mainly just a pure shooter, a lot harder to adapt to NBA range as a shooter as well as everything rather than coming in as a ball handling playmaker with a high basketball IQ
Hi Timi. I really appreciate your dedication on these highlights reel, especially on the audio aspect. Often time people would just cut off the commentary from the last play but you took the time to let it transition smoothly into the next play. Keep it up mate. From a Celtics fan living in LA :)
if given a playing time even when kemba comes back im sure he and melo andother impressive rookies will go head to head for the ROY award.. This is not a kid or a rook he's more like a veteran maybe the result of playing 4 years in college. so entertaining to watch his energy and hustle will surely help the team.
I love how this kid plays the game, but I am reserving judgement a little bit. I want to see how he responds to more attention from the defense some of these highlights are because teams were not really respecting him yet. But I am hyped that he looks like a real point guard and some insurance in case Kemba proves injury prone.
BEST HIGH SCHOOL BBALL PLAYER IN OREGON HISTORY in this Oregonian's humble opinion. FOUR TIME state champion THREE TIME state player of the year he dominated basically every game he played in
Love the Mchale step through moves kids only 6'2", but he plays all aspects of the game including driving left!! Stupid Stevens play the KID,and Tacko TOO!!
The way he plays is like Kyrie. The handle. The touch around the rim. He's very Kyrie like but PP has some common sense and basic human interaction skills
Payton Pritchard is the name. Hoopin is his game ☘️
Both are both fundamental. Great positioning on defense.
Dr Suess: NbA edition 😂
His name is Larry Pritchard.
If you don’t know it that’s a shame, He’s already in the hall of fame
agressive, that's what we need from the bench. might be the steal of the draft
Not over tyrese but definitely up there
Pritchard could turn into a Fred Van Fleet type of player. How crazy would that be!?
That would be amazing! I think Pritchard has better defense tho

I thought of FVF also watching him.
@Brendan McCann 4:01-4.14 that's way above average defence...
itsmeitstrue he reminds me of dellavodova on defense plays with intensity and desire to win.
He is legitimately eating LEGIT RIM PROTECTORS at the cup and making well timed, veteran plays.

He is going to be our best true POINT GUARD since Rondo imo. IT, Kyrie, Kemba were more of the score first, "tiny 2" variety.

His game transfers super well to the NBA. Not the most athletics player, but he's got all the tricks
